I know how you feel about him, but
he makes me very nervous when the game is on the line. When it's out of reach, he does just fine.

Guys...
Are you gonna commit the Season Sweep and take a loss from every team in the AFC South?

I mean, if you lose this game you'll be in the same notable company as...Jacksonville.

Dear Marvin Harrison
Hi.  I don't talk to you much, mainly cause I'm usually rooting against you.  But this week I'm in my Fantasy Football Super Bowl and I could really use another hundred yards and a TD from you.  So I'd like you to burn those CB's and tell Peyton that because I did this he should throw you the ball a lot!

Thanks,

Chris

Wow
This is easily the most shocking result of the weekend.

I will say however, and this is probably not something Colts fans want to hear... that it's about time the AFC South was worth a damn. From an outsiders perspective, It's been the COlts and a bunch of doormats for a while now.

From here on out the AFC South looks like it could be one of the most competitive divisions in football. Let me tell you, that's not a bad thing for you guys. It'll make for a tougher, more battle hardened team heading into the playoffs in the coming years.

Manning threw his defense under the bus
saying after the game that football isn't like basketball, he can't play both offense and defense.

by Terry @ Stampede Blue on Dec 24, 2006 7:33 PM EST reply actions

I wouldn't feel bad about
throwing you under the bus.

What else would someone of your, helmet wearing, stature expect from the best player in football who left it all on the field only to be let down by the rest of his crew?

Also
You, with your ignorance, will not refer to Peyton Manning as "Manning."

You will refer to him as Sir Manning, Mr. Manning, or just, the greatest of all time.

Now, go suck on Dandy Don's B*lls

Let's not forget the rest of
Montana's team(who's D wasn't too bad), icluding his coach.

By the end of his career, 18 will be the greatest of all time.

did you see the rest of manning's comments where he said the offense also needs to play better and score more points (i.e., not turn the ball over, not get false start penalties, etc.)?  it is easy to go after select quotes and paint a nasty portrait, but if you read/listen to manning's extended comments, he did not "throw the defense under the bus."  then again, if you believe tony romo was an adequate pro-bowl selection, you msut be accustomed to making decisions based on flimsy/partial information.

Manning always does this
He's a lousy leader. He acts like it's such a burden on his back to carry this team. How the hell does that make his teammates want to be better?

This is why so many of us feel like Manning's just another star with great stats, immense talent, and without that "it" factor to take his team all the way.

It's also why Tom Brady will be remembered as a better quarterback, despite the fact that Manning racks up such incredible numbers.

by Burnt Orange Nation @ Stampede Blue on Dec 26, 2006 6:10 PM EST reply actions

Brady will not be remembered as a better QB ...
Who's the best QB (not active) of all time? It's hard to make an argument for anyone other than Marino right now. Superbowls are a team reward - not just a QB thing. Heck, by the SB standard, Trent Dilfer is a great QB. We all know that's not the case - he's a game manager at best. It's all your metric. If all you're willing to look at is the microcosm of SB rings, you're blinding yourself to the whole picture.

by PaytonMenning on Dec 27, 2006 2:27 AM EST up reply actions

fact is
qb's will always be judged by SB rings, whether its fair or not. Its just a fact.

by Terry @ Stampede Blue on Dec 27, 2006 8:09 PM EST up reply actions

Maybe in your book
But not in mine, and not in anybody's book who has more than half a brain to work with. It's pointless to tie a team award (a SuperBowl) to any individual position. Would we even be having this argument about Ray Lewis, for example? Would he not have been an NFL "great" unless he won a SuperBowl? See how ludicrous this argument is? Still, he was the biggest playmaker and leader on that Baltimore team. And Lewis, with or without a wrong, is arguable one of the best linebackers to have played the game. Still, we do say "Defense wins championships". So why don't we pin it on any one DT, DE, LB, S or CB?

by PaytonMenning on Dec 27, 2006 11:05 PM EST up reply actions

Sorry...
but he's right.  Why is Montana considered better than Marino?  And in years to come, you know who will be considered better than Peyton Manning?

Wait for it...

Wait for it...

Montana better than Marino?
He's not considered better? By who? State your case, and back it up. By the record books, Marino is considered "better" than Montana. My metric is the number of NFL records Marino made and still holds. What's your metric? Oh, that's right, it's just your opinion. Can't prove it with facts - it's just because you say so. Whatever.

by PaytonMenning on Dec 28, 2006 11:52 AM EST up reply actions

Marino vs. Montana
Here's a prime example. See:

http://www.nfl.com/history/randf/records/indiv/passing

"Montana" appears 7 times.

"Marino" appears 30 times!

by PaytonMenning on Dec 28, 2006 11:55 AM EST up reply actions

Go ask Steve Young...
What it means to be a Super Bowl winning quarterback vs. a Dan Marino.

I don't care how you try to justify it.  Whether its right or wrong quarterbacks have been/are/will be judged by rings.  This is the overall consensus of the sporting world and you'd be hard pressed to find people who disagree with that.

by Chad @ Stampede Blue on Dec 28, 2006 1:33 PM EST up reply actions

No, you're wrong ...
There is no stat anywhere in the NFL record books for "number of rings". It's not how they're judged by the Sporting world, it's how they're judged by a couple of zealots in the media, and ignorant fans.

by PaytonMenning on Dec 28, 2006 5:09 PM EST up reply actions

No...
Just stop.  Anywhere you go anybody you talk to who knows sports always uses rings as an indicator of greatness.  This is how its done.  I know you don't like it but its true.  Go find any list of 'the greatest' and you'd be hard pressed to find a #1 who did not win a championship.  Stop complaining about it and deal with it.

Steve Young even said as much during Monday night football.

by Chad @ Stampede Blue on Dec 28, 2006 7:23 PM EST up reply actions

Are you blind or just dumb?
Chad, I know you're not dumb. I just gave you a list of the "greatest" from the NFL itself. Go find me your mythical "list" from a respected authority of any kind. You won't find it, it's all media opinion. I'm sorry I'm basing my argument on fact, but that's the truth. Marino, statistically, is the greatest QB of all time right now. When Manning is done playing, he will assume that mantle, with or without a Super Bowl.

Does this mean Montana wasn't great? No, I'm not ssaying that. But, if I had to assemble a team of all-time talents, Marino would start over Montana any day of the week.

by PaytonMenning on Dec 28, 2006 9:03 PM EST up reply actions

you only say that
because your qb doesn't have one and probably never will so of course you're going to rationalize by saying it's a team game. You say that now, but if Manning had 3 rings, you'd be singing a different tune.

by Terry @ Stampede Blue on Dec 28, 2006 10:48 AM EST up reply actions

You are out of your element
You have absolutely no reference on this topic because of who you think is the greatest QB ever.

Absolutely no reference. Might as well ask a 5 year old Cowsh*ts fan.

"GO HORSE!"

by beester on Dec 28, 2006 11:28 AM EST up reply actions

well #8 is the greatest
because he played his best games in the biggest games, which all the great ones do, something your 18 has never done so i guess he's out of his "element", huh?

by Terry @ Stampede Blue on Dec 28, 2006 10:49 PM EST up reply actions

not always
Manning has had extraordinary performances in the playoffs against Denver(twice) and Kansas City. You just focus on the games where he didn't perform up to expected standards. Just because he hasn't been to the SB dosen't mean he chokes in the big games.

by Playoff Pride on Dec 29, 2006 11:30 AM EST up reply actions

No, I'm not ....
Manning and Marino are once in a lifetime talents. There aren't any players (and this is backed up by the record books) that have played the position better.
