Why did Gilbert Gardner play bad?

You know, much has been made about Gardner and he has easily been the "whipping boy" for the Colts this year. He was supposed to replace Thornton on the strong side and many of us convinced ourselves that it would be easy to do and we were all wrong big time. Gardner was horrendous and seemed completely lost as to what his assignment was. Much has been made as to why this happened. Was Gardner not athletic enough, strong enough or smart enough to play linebacker in the NFL? All of these theories are solid but they miss the real issue as to why Gardner is bad. After much thinking I have discovered it! Gardner is bad because....

He played at PURDUE!!!!

Go IU!!!!!    ; )

Update [2007-1-31 11:55:50 by BigBlueShoe]: Leave it to MasterRWayne to piss off the Purdue fans. We've gotten several hits from a Purdue message board called Purdue.Rivals.com. For you Boilermaker fans out there, my apologies. Hey, if any of you Boiler fans or Hoosier fans are interested in blogging, SB Nation does not have either IU or Purdue covered. Email me if you have an interest and I'll pass it on to my bosses. This way, you can have your own blog and you can make fun of MasterRWayne and his ilk all day long.

And ...
Rosevelt Colvin sucks ...

and

Drew Brees sucks ...

c'mon ... The best product out of IU has been Randle El ... and he sucks. You're just bitter we won the Old Oaken Bucket for 8 out of the last 10 years.

On top of that ...
Is now really the time to be divisive anyway, considering we're dealing with all the Bears fans? And why rip on a player on the team?

Really, this story is just in poor taste all around.

Nice going.

Didn't go to Purdue or IU
but I lean toward liking Purdue a hell of a lot more than IU. In fact, I consider myself a Purdue fan.

Purdue fans: Don't read too much into this. BBS is just having fun.

BBS didn't post this ...
I'm not reading too much into it - he's ripping on a Colts player before the Super Bowl.

Go pick on a Bears player.

MasterRWayne
MasterRWayne posted that. He's a big IU fan. I could care either way. Didn't go to either school, but I tend to root for IU come tourny time because many family members went there.

Side note: MasterRWayne hates Purdue so much that when he plays Madden franchise mode, he refuses to draft any player from Purdue no matter how good he is. The player could FLY and MasterRWayne won't draft him. He hates Purdue THAT much.

Still ...
Pretty classless to go digging on your own team the week before the SuperBowl.

On top of that - this item has no relation to the Super Bowl itself. And it certainly isn't news - this is based on old, old news.

This is a Diary at best, and doesn't deserve front page placement.

He could've picked on ...
Kyle Orton

or at a minimum, the craptastic play of

Rex Grossman (an IU product)

yes ...
I know Grossman played college ball in Florida ... He's from Bloomington though.

Next time...
I'll be more aware of how sensitive you are Mr. Menning. I suppose I would be upset too if my rival school had more hot girls than my school. But oh well not everyone can be #1 right?    ; )

You just never learned how to deal with competition.

Gardner
On a serious note Gardner was a terrible draft pick regardless of where he played (he played at Purdue in case you forgot). This was a rare mistake by Bill Polian.
