Hunter Smith getting booted himself?

Promoted from the diaries, originally titled "Get PETITION going for Polian, NOW!" and written by BuffaloPhil. Is this a rumor, or a reliable source? If true, BuffaloPhil deserves some major props. I'll keep an eye on this.-- BBS

What kind of photos does Russ have on BP and TD??

Have it on reliable source that the Colts are at this moment trying out 4 other punters.

Yes, Russ Purnell has found someone to point his finger at.. Hunter is "overkicking his coverage" - hence the poor ST play.

Hunter may be gone this time tomorrow.

Please get petion going now for Polian.

Unimpeachable source
And that should read: "get PETITION going for Polian, NOW!"

This is Serious. Purnell is off the farm.....

Well...
I don't think Hunter is the problem.

What's the excuse on the Kickoffs?  Hunter isn't kicking then.

Very true
I agree with your reasoning that Hunter isn't the problem because the same issues exist with kick returns, but think about this:  What if the Colts were thinking about signing someone who could handle punts and kickoff duty?  No disrespect to Vinatieri, but he doesn't have as much leg power as he used to.  I'd hate to see Hunter go, but if they could find someone who handle punting and kickoffs effectively, it might not be the worst thing in the world.

Of course, firing Purnell would still be the better move.

Jake
Are u kidding? Vinatieri's kickoffs have been great this year. He's got 8 touchbacks already this season.

Let me rephrase that
No disrespect to Vinatieri, but his strong, Thor-like leg that is tied for 8th in the NFL for kickoff averages has repeatedly bludgeoned my head to the point where I no longer base my opinions on statistical evidence or rational logic.  I'd hate to see Hunter go, but if they could find someone to protect me from mighty Adam's leg, it might not be the worst thing in the world.

This is what happens when I have to write mind-numbing English papers.  I guess I was mixing him up with Vanderjagt near the end of his stint with the Colts when they had to bring in Gramatica to handle kickoffs.

the problem is
Pu-rnell, not Pu-nter.  Hey, maybe they are bringing in punters to take Purnell's job. Problem solved.

Or,

Dungy: Russ, we need you to look at these punters, because we think it's Hunter's fault.
Russ: OK.

(Later)

Russ: Well Tony, I looked at those punters you brought it, and none of them is as good as Hunter.
Dungy:  We know, we just wanted you to realize that before we canned you, you worthless piece of...
Bill: Hey now, Tony, remember...Quiet Strength.
Tony: Right.  (Tony quietly throws Russ through a wall)
Tony: Now, who should we replace him with?
Bill: Hey, how about that BBS guy?

;-)

Lol
Hahah, very nice post.

Seriously though, I like Hunter the punter.  He has always been solid, albeit relatively infrequently called upon.

And now they are trying to take him out back "old yeller" style?  Hunter is Lassie, if any dog.  Prunell is the one who needs to be shot! (although only metaphorically.  I'm not THAT bitter).

Ok
  1. What is the reliable source?
  2. Hunter is one of the strongest legged kickers in the league.  And he also has one of the best jobs in the league since he rarely has to kick.
  3. Purnell is an idiot.  How can he think a weaker legged kicker is better?  That's automatically giving them 5-10 yards from the kick.  Just teach your special teams players to stay in their lanes. Have them watch Oakland's PR Coverage.  They kicked to Hester last week and limited him to like 10 total yards.

Hunter
Hunter has been playing like crap this season. Consistently he has been line driving his punts down the field and out kicking he's coverage team. If he got cut that wouldn't bother me at all. That aside though it still doesn't solve all of the other special teams problems.
