Simeon Rice released
The Indianapolis Star is reporting that Rice was released today.
It's not too surprising I guess, considering that when he did get into the games, he didn't make that big of an impact. Besides that, the rookies (Dawson and Pitcock) are playing every bit as good, if not better, on pass rush situations than Rice was.
Update [2007-11-27 16:33:52 by BigBlueShoe]: And, just like that, pretty much everything said by TheSportsGuru and other Broncos fans was correct: Simeon Rice is done. Simeon's release means one of two things:
- He was so bad it induced projectile vomiting from Polian watching in the press booth, or
- Dungy and Polian are very, very happy with the young guys (Dawson, Thomas, Brock, etc.) that having Rice was just a wasted roster space.
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Stampede Blue's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Stampede Blue's writers or editors.

want us to suck you off?
people who say "i told you so" or need to stroke their own ego are clearly mental midgets. congrats on that.
As for the move I am not too pleased with it but I guess I will see how it goes with their other guys.
Unlike others, i will not sit here and act like this must be a good move because they decided it. Sorry but Dungy and co are not infallible...all one needs to do is look at charlie johnson starting over toudouze to see this simple fact.
I felt simeon did a decent job and he easily could have had 2 sacks and he did some other things well.
I do agree though it is more about getting Lawton in there (based on what Polian apparently said) than Rice.

Many things could come from this...
- Dawson could slip into the rotation between him and Thomas. He has looked very fast off the snap when out there, and I'm sure he could easily make the transition back to DE.
- Raheem Brock could essentially make the same transition. Maybe he would play tackle on running downs and end on passing downs? I think that might become too confusing for him to do all game long, but it's a possibly.
- Brock could be moved full time to DE, rotating with Thomas. This would leave two rookies, one a 7th round pick, one an UFA, as the starting DT's. Their top backup would be another rookie. This definitely is most intriguing option, and also the most dangerous. Brock was a very effective DE back in 2004 and 2005. Could we possibly have a DT rotation composed of 3 rookies, Reid, and Klecko?
