The Pro Bowl can suck my nads

Pardon the language, but seriously. WTF! Gary Brackett was not given a Pro Bowl spot. But, Ray Lewis was? What? Are you kidding me?

Ray friggin' Lewis, who can't hold Gary's jock right now.

Ray friggin' Lewis, who is a shell of his former self.

Ray friggin' Lewis, linebacker for a 4-10 team.

The Colts who did get spots are as follows:

Manning
Addai
Wayne
Saturday
Sanders

Mathis, Jackson, and definitely Brackett deserved nods. Fred Taylor should have gone over Willie Parker. Jason Taylor on the Pro Bowl is a disgrace. His team sucks, and he is not as good a DE as Mathis or even Mario Williams.

The Pro Bowl totally and completely sucks.

2nd by yards and DVOA
3rd in points allowed. Top pass D in the NFL by yards and DVOA. 10th in Run D DVOA.

How does a defense that good only get one Pro Bowl spot.

kind of like 2 spots
If you count the Pro Bowl spot Freeney would have had and deserved if he hadn't gotten injured.

Defense
Our unit is certainly a fantastic, hard hitting defense but Marlin and Kelvin aren't playmakers like Champ Bailey and Asante Samuel.  They aren't as good in pass coverage, and I think we saw that against the Jags, as their recievers beat our corners with a whole lot of out and curl routes I feel that our strength is playing as a cohesive unit.  Brackett and Mathis certainly should have been selected but a small media market will forever curse them with obscurity.

Jason Taylor
~Jason Taylor on the Pro Bowl is a disgrace. His team sucks, and he is not as good a DE as Mathis~

Are you kidding me?  Brad, take off those Colts-colored glasses for a second, ok buddy?  Yes, the Dolphins suck.  Though I don't know how good the Colts would be with their starting QB and RB out for the season.  With their starting MLB out for the year.  With their starting OLB missing 5 games.  And with their top 4 safeties all injured for the year, meaning you have to play safeties #5 and 6.  But that's not the point.

Saying Jason Taylor is not as good a DE as Robert Mathis is a total and complete joke.

Just look at the stats:

Taylor: 47 tackles (40 solo), 10 sacks, 4 forced fumbles, 4 passes defensed, a blocked field goal, and an interception returned for a touchdown

Mathis: 32 tackles (26 solo), 7 sacks, 4 forced fumbles, and that's it

And let's not forget Taylor is the team's best defensive player.  Opposing offenses actually have to gameplan around Taylor to minimize his affect on the game.  And he still puts up amazing numbers.

Meanwhile, Mathis, for 9 games, wasn't even the best DE on the team.  Teams game planned around containing Freeney, meaning Mathis should have had much better numbers.  But he didn't.

Bottom line:  You'll be happy if Mathis ever becomes half as great as Jason Taylor already is and continues to be.

Somewhat agree
I agree with Matty I on the Mathis/Taylor debate.  Stats say it all, along with his argument.
Brackett is having a great season.  Bummer he got snubbed.

I have to disagree with Matty I on the injury debate though.  Sure, we haven't lost Addai or Manning, but we have lost numerous players to injury this year.  Last week we started 3 rookie D-liners and a sophomore in the 4th spot.  He's replacing Freeney's spot.  McFarland has been gone since before the season started.  Freeney is gone as well.  We lost a starting linebacker Rob Morris for the year in week 5 or 6.  All of our linebackers have missed games this season.  Actually everyone on D has missed at least 1 game this season save Ed Johnson (rookie DT) and our corners...I think..
Offensively, our O-line has been a mess all season.  Our #1 receiver has missed something like 7 weeks, Marvin.  Gonzalez, a rookie, has been a solid contributor lately but he also missed 2-3 games.  Our best TE Clark also missed a game.
Last year we were starting our 5th and 6th string safeties, just like the Dolphins..

I do seem to remember
the 3rd string safety thing not working out too well, something about 375, maybe.

Blue ...
Matty from phinsider is right. Jason Taylor is a better DE than Mathis. (I'm not ready to say Mathis won't "ever become half as great" as Jason Taylor, I think he's already 80% as good now).

Taylor is the one guy on that team that is a true difference maker. You're just wrong on this one, Blue.

pro bowl selections
ya know, i honestly thought selections were pretty good given the circumstances.
manning will always get the nod.
reggie got it last year and certainly gets it this year.
addai was a good surprise pick.  a lot of people over on sportline are screaming that fred taylor should have gone over him, but something about the 60 more points addai has scored gives me the confidence.
i don't think i've ever seen jeff saturday make a snapping mistake, or at least, a notable one.
everybody has been all over bob sanders all season, so i don't even need to touch it.
i do in my heart wish gary brackett would have made it, but the others guys do have better overall stats, and are from bigger markets.
i also think there would have been a case for antoine bethea and kelvin hayden.
but yeah, regardless of who i would have hoped to be there, the afc team looks freakin killer and that can't be denied.

Oh my....
How old are you, jacka$$?

You are celebrating that a team that has nothing to do with your season( obviously Romo is going to choke on the way to the SB), having less Pro Bowl players than your dungs. Which comes after your loss to the Igles. That's right, YOUR COWDUNGS JUST LOST TO THE IGLES!!!!
Why don't you focus on that, instead of something that doesn't matter.

The sucking goes beyond our Colts....
The Jholes. as much as we might not like them, are a playoff contender and do have some serious talent - and didn't get a single selection.  The Buccaneers, with the #3 ranked defense, a QB named Jeff Garcia who's put some fire into a long lethargic offense, and a receiver named Joey Galloway who has put up outstanding numbers - no selections(oh yeah, and they'll have the three seed in the NFC most likely).

My thinking is: Dallas Media Market > Tampa Media Market :: Tampa gets the proverbial "screw you".

Also, can anyone explain how, after seeing his impact on the game when he left with an injury, does Tony Ugoh not get the nod over perennial washed-up old fart Jonathan Ogden?

Thinking of Gary Brackett made me look at the comparative stats of the two MLBs who did get the nod.  I believe that GB and Ray Lewis had statistical seasons that are about a wash - Ray Lewis had more tackle assists, Gary had twice the interceptions for about 4 times the yards, each had a defensive TD.  But the reason Gary should have got the nod is he is the centerpiece of a young defense that is ranked #2 despite losing it's All-Pro end and starting a mish-mash of d-lineman and linebackers, while Ray is one of two playmakers on an aging, declining defense on a team that just got beat by the Dolphins and has lost 8 in a row.  I also noticed that the LB spot seemed to be slightly colored more to the pass-rushing LBs like Ray Lewis, Shawn Merriman, James Harrison, and Mike Vrabel.  I think Bob wouldn't have got the nod this year without his 2.5 sacks he registered against the Titans - despite his reputation amongst the league.

Brackett
IMO only Brackett got snubbed from the Colts. I'd have said Bethea should have gone but it seems they only want 3 safeties and with Reed getting the top votes you can't really argue that. Mathis is having a good year but how is it any better than the guys who made it? The real snub of course is Mario Williams. How he didn't make it over Taylor is beyond me...oh wait, the coaches who pick the reserves don't have a clue and go by name. I feel Mario should have been the reserve, then Taylor.

Ugoh could have got a spot but the missed games hurt him and of course the fact he is a rookie.

The Cowboys having 11 players amuses me but hey, it's what anyone should expect since they are big market.

The Pro Bowl is silly anyway so big deal.

Taylor vs. Parker
Why does Taylor deserve the nod over Willie Parker? Not knocking Taylor, he's having a great season and it's ridiculous he hasn't been selected once in his illustrious career, but why should the NFL's leading rusher get bumped in favor of Taylor?

I'd say Addai deserves to be bumped before Parker. Sounds homerific, but c'mon, how are you going to justify bumping the league's leading rusher?

by Blitzburgh @ Stampede Blue on Dec 19, 2007 4:02 PM EST reply actions

Addai
Well, Addai is better than Parker. That's why. If you think differently you just don't know what you're talking about. Addai has 11 TDs while Parker has a whopping 2. rushing yards are meaningless without TDs. Parker can't get into the damn endzone.

Addai, Tomlinson, and Taylor.

keep in mind also
that Addai has a much better O line which obviously is a factor.

by Terry @ Stampede Blue on Dec 19, 2007 5:33 PM EST up reply actions

You have completely lost it...
We've been shuffling practice team linemen since: Tarik retired, Ugoh(rookie) has been playing hurt, and God knows what Diem's problem is.

Come on bro, at least check the injury/retired list before making rediculous remarks.

Their O line really sucks, the very worst part of their team.

If you actually watched NFL games that didn't involve the Colts, maybe you'd realize that.

Steelers can run all day to their left side, with faneca and smith blocking.
