Pro Bowl

Maybe I'm late, but I just checked down at nfl.com to see how the pro bowl voting is going, and Manning is third overall, behind Brady (2nd, oh yeah) and Favre (1st). Manning is ahead of Randy Moss, who is a media darling this year (or at least was). Manning is ahead of Tony Homo and Adrian Peterson.

How great is that? I mean, this season Manning isn't throwing to Marvin Harrison. He's throwing to guys like Moorehead and Crappo. But if you look at his stats, he deserves it.

Once I said that Steve Nash should be the MVP every single season he plays. Even if he's playing like crap, he should be named MVP. Because today, there ain't nobody quite like him. Manning should too. Because even with some bad WR, he's dominating.

Oh, and Adrian Peterson is ahead of Joseph Addai. And I think that's right for the season.

Roy Williams
leads all safties, so whats your point?? That he's better than Sanders??

fans voting means nothing, its the votes by the coaches and players that count the most.

by Terry on Dec 7, 2007 2:54 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

No, my point isn't the voting
Is that he deserves it. By the stats. Even with bad WR. And I guess you already heard people saying that Manning wasn't THAT good, that he just had good receivers. I guess that this season, while not his best, proves that indeed he can play great even throwing to guys like Moorehead.

deserves what??
going to the pro bowl?? thats obviously a given, Brady always made it too with crap receivers.

The MVP is obviously Brady because of his insane season, any other year, however, Romo would have it locked up with his brilliant play and numbers.

by Terry on Dec 7, 2007 3:31 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah, Brady always made it
But that's the first time for Manning with bad receivers. I never meant to compare them here. I just tried to say that in this season Manning is actually playing quite good with quite bad receivers. And stuff like that. Oh, and the MVP thing was just an excuse for some fanboy crap. Sorry about that. And, yeah, Brady is the MVP. But I really don't see Romo's season being better than Favre's.

Romo's numbers are better
comp %   yd/att  yds   TD  INT   rating
Romo       66       8.8   3,352  33   14    107

Favre      67       7.8   3,412  22   10     97

But
Favre is in his last season. I really don't if that can give in any sort of advantage. But you're right. Romo's numbers are better. Not much, still.

What is this year?
his 4th or 5th "last season"?

His playing is not crap this season
So I guess it's really the last one.

I was thinking the opposite
that this season would encourage him to stick around for another couple years no matter how he plays.

Favre wouldn't do that
... I hope. This season is perfect to be his last one. Yet, he's still playing way better than many young QBs out there. I like to see him playing. But I just hope it's his last year.

Why would you hope that?
I hope Favre plays as long as he wants to. Definitely one of his key reasons he cited last year was whether or not the team was competitive. He won't play anywhere else.

Now they are, my guess is, Favre will be back next season.

I just don't like
to see great players keep playing when they're far from the top. I think that if Favre keeps going for more time, this can happen. But, yeah, if he still good enough, than he should keep playing. I don't know why I think this is his last season. It just look like.

But he most definitely ...
is not far from the top. Statistically, he's 6th in the league, behind only Brady, Romo, Manning, Anderson and Roethlisberger.

Are you just saying you like to see new players get a shot? Or you don't like watching the old farts play?

by PaytonMenning on Dec 11, 2007 1:43 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I'm saying that I don't like
when players keep on playing beyond the time they probably should. I mean, Favre's season is being great. But what if he stays in the NFL, and then his next season is crap. It can happen. So I think he should avoid it, by calling it a day while still at the top.

MVP
Obviously, Brady is the runaway favorite for this one. At the same time, the last two games have completely taken the wind out of the Pats' sails. At what point do you go "Tom Brady is only having this monster season because of Randy Moss"?

Honestly, I'd rank Peyton ahead of Favre, but not Romo. In any other season, Romo is the MVP. Favre is just making the transition from field general to game manager. His defense is good enough and schedule is weak enough so that all he has to do is not lose the game. He still shows flashes of being reckless and tossing interceptions. Romo is playing at an exceptional level for a QB, much less one in his first full season. We'll see what he does in the playoffs, but he makes Dallas a contender. As far as Manning goes, no one has done more with less than he has, which is what we've said about Brady for years. If you can find another quarterback that could go 10-2 missing his #1 receiver, and at times his left tackle, right tackle, #3 receiver, and #4 receiver/tight end, in any other year I'd show you a guy running away with the MVP award.

As far as Coach of the Year, I don't care, as long as it's not Belichick. Naming him the coach of the year glorifies and exemplifies so many negative things, that they really do overshadow what is otherwise a great football accomplishment. I think you have to look at Dungy seriously for it, for the same reason that you have to look at Manning. No one is doing more with less. Lots of teams have really bad injuries, but none of them are 10-2 and   still contending for a title.

F Brady
No way do I think brady is the clear MVP. When he has actually not had all day to throw and moss has been decently covered Brady has not done much. When he has had all day and Moss can get open or Brady chucks it to a double covered Moss who SAVES BRADY FROM THROWING AN INT (happened at least 4 times I have seen this year) then Brady puts up big numbers. Plus, he has been able to pad his stats in blowouts late int he 4th qtr. F that choice SO FAR. Not hard to see the simplistic reality when it comes to Tom and how he performs.

Right now if I were voting I'd easily go with Romo as the MVP. Close in TDs (and has done so without bombing it late in blowouts), has way less pass protection and basically only has Owens as a big name guy. Also, he has a far tougher division than the NFL worst AFC East. If that wasn't enough he is in his SECOND YEAR PLAYING. He's the clearcut (so far) MVP. The only bad game he played was the buffalo thing. take it away and he'd be mega close to Brady in rating.

I'd put Brady 3rd with Moss behind Romo. Again, take Moss away and Brady does jack all.

As for favre having a better season than Romo...anyone who thinks that is nuts. I thought favre had finally "got it" with respect to playing smart football but his horrible play vs the Cowboys proved he is still the same ol' Favre who will force the throw and kill his team. The only reason he has had a good season thus far is because the team has played crap and have been able to get out to leads. Also, Rodgers showed that he is a pretty capable backup and the team would prolly be as good or slightly worse with him as the starter. Take Romo away and Johnson would be done since the OL there is shaky causing the team to not be close to where they are and to a lesser extent take Brady away and the Pats would still be one of the better teams but would be worse off than GB. Peyts is ahead of favre no question as well. Peyts had the one bad half vs San Diego and has dealt with I think the 5th most drops in the nfl yet bam, there they are at 10-2 and could easily be the 12-0 team. Now Manning has annoyed me with his decision to force it at times but still, he is having a very good year considering what he has dealt with. Does anyone actually think Brady would be having a year as good as Manning's if Moss went down and OL guys went down? HA.

Romo for MVP...at this time at least. My opinion can change in the next 4 games but if Brady sucks it up tomorrow then it will just further my point that his numbers have been massively inflated because of his horrible division that may go down as the worst in recent history.

Having said all that, i know Brady will get MVP because the media voters are morons and just jizz to the number of TDs instead of looking deeper. If they did Manning would have got the award in 2005 instead of Alexander. Also, before the Colts game I thought Brady for MVP as well but since then he has proven to me he is just been a product of great pass protection and the crappy division/defenses.

Oh and Dungy should easily get coach of the year but he won't because again, the voters are morons. Does anyone actually think another team with the amount of key injuries the colts have had would be 10-2 with the 2 losses games they SHOULD have won? What Dungy has done this year is nothing short of amazing.

well said Rob L
couldn't have said it better, although unfortunately the media doesn't think logically or rationally.

I disagree
I still think Brady should be the MVP, because he's putting out some really good numbers. Not only against crappy teams.

But thinking again, I would take Romo as a runner-up.
