Ricky is done

(This picture courtesy of SocalSportsFan)

I got this from Buc'Em, our Tampa Bay Bucs blog. Apparently, Ricky Williams failed another drug test while trying to get re-instated into the NFL. I know a few of you out there thought the Colts trying to get Ricky to replace Dom Rhodes would work.

Sorry, ain't happening. Ricky is done as an NFL player.

Don't know if he's done...
but the fat lady is warming up. He can re-apply in September. We'll see.

I thought for a minute about Ricky on the Colts and thought that it could be a good fit, but that it would probably never happen. He doesn't seem to me to be the kind of character that Dungy's looking for.

What really gets me about this is: WHAT THE HELL WAS HE THINKING?!? OK, he likes the doobie. Lots of people do. I'm certainly not "holier than thou" about this. And I don't want to get too far off topic, but there's a strong case that can be made that marijuana is not as bad for you (in terms of physical effects and addiction potential) as legal drugs like alcohol and cigarettes. Nor is it as harmful as the more dangerous and highly addictive drugs like cocaine and heroin. So I'm not even trying to say that he shouldn't smoke it. My views about drugs tend to slant toward the libertarian. But it IS illegal, and it can get one banned from the NFL. So why couldn't he display SOME will power and lay off for a few years?

Ricky, listen to me: stop smoking for a few years, make enough money to get yourself out of debt and to set yourself up in comfort for the rest of your life, and then let it all hang out! Smoke every day, grow your hair, move to Tibet, go nuts! But now you're on the razor's edge of throwing it all away. And 20 years from now when you're scrounging money for weed, you'll wish you'd played it a little smarter.

And ultimately, that's what this is in a nutshell: just plain dumb.

Ya know...
looking back we could have had Ryan Leaf instead of Manning... or Ricky Williams instead of Edgerrin James.

Bow to the almighty Polian!!!  For he knows all!!!

Go Colts!
