Broncos place Warren on Trading Block

According to various sources including the Denver Post, the Denver Broncos are looking to trade 28 year old DT Gerard Warren. Warren is listed at 6 foot 4, 325 pounds and was a steady force in Denver's Cover 2 defense.

Warren would add a veteran presence to the Colts defense and would most likely only cost the Colts a second day pick in next years draft.

UPDATE: The Broncos are planning to trade or release Warren by Tuesday. Among the interested teams are the Colts and the Saints.

Do it
If he's good enough to start this season and only costs a 2nd day pick, I say do it.

Anyone seen him play? He's more than big enough to take McFarland's place and there can't be too much of an adjustment from one cover 2 to another for a DT.

Yeah, do it
Apparently, Denver is willing to get rid of him because he doesn't tie up blockers well, which is important to Denver's D. What he does well is apply inside pressure and get upfield, which suits him to Dungy's D.

I'm still in the "win now" mode. I want another Super Bowl, and having to rely so heavily on 2 rookie DTs (Johnson and Pitcock) scares me. If nothing else we need more depth there.

I'd say do it but....
I don't think that they will from what Polian and Dungy has been saying lately Simon.

Yeah
I don't know what Warren's contract is like, but I doubt it's Simon-esque. If it is, they won't do it. But if it's reasonable and he's healthy, I don't see how they have a lot to lose.

Don't get your hopes up....
First, he does have a pretty big contract that would get in the way of resigning Sanders and Clark.  He's only playing for the veteran minimum (about 600K) this year.  But is owed more than 4 million over each of the following 3 seasons.  He might restructure, but for how much?

Second, would the Broncos really trade him to a Contender in the AFC?  I doubt it, unless they've accepted that they aren't quite ready to contend.  And I can't really see that.

The article from ESPN below says right now it sounds like they are talking to Washington, New Orleans, and Miami (who is in the AFC but not a legit contender).  It also says that "he Colts have not demonstrated interest yet in acquiring Warren."

New Orleans
I know that N.O. is really in need of depth at DT since thier starter just went on the IR list, so N.O. will probably be pushing hard for him.
