Around SBN: Jim Irsay: We Can Make It Work With Peyton Manning

Want another reason to hate Patriots?

Go to Profootballtalk.com, click on the "Bang it here for the Daily Rumor Mill" link, and then scroll down to to the 8:16 pm, September 26 entry about Vince Wilfork's hit on JP Losman. Watch the YouTube video. That's a no-doubt, intentional elbow-to-the-knee shot.

Seriously, can this team do anything but be a collection of giant jackasses? I'm sure that not every single person in the organization is a total dick, but they seem to have more than the usual share of despicable pieces of crap in New England.

Sorry for not linking, my limited skills can't get the link to work, and you need to see the video anyway....

I watched it the other day
and i agree that it was an intentional shot at the knee. But patriots fans (tom) over at pats pulpit will probably dismiss it as "everyone is doing it, whats the big deal?", or say that they need more proof or evidence than just a video and wants to see if the charges can stick in the court of law

Tommasse
is nothing but a hypocrtical bully. He continually invents league-wide biases for the Colts or against the Pats without any substantiation, then -- as you say -- requires the kind of evidence that would hold up in a court of law if anyone disagrees with him.

I think I just got banned from the site. I was making a perfectly civil and rational argument about the difference between evaluating individual players and evaluating teams or entire divisions. He couldn't make a convincing argument, so he simply accused me of lying and deleted my posts. I guess the wear and tear of having to continually make excuses for a team full of cheaters and cheap-shot artists has taken its toll....

Tommasse
I don't read that Pats blog too much. I remember when he did a Brady vs. Manning thing. He killed his own argument by putting the stats first. And the stats show one thing: Manning is a better QB than Brady. The rest is bs. He could have started with that "Brady is better in the playoffs". I guess he didn't because he felt that this is just a lame argument after last season.

I might be banned
I can't log in on my old user name (same one as here) or the new one I created, "Shady Brady."

All I did was point out some clear completely provable bias in one of his Manning v Brady post:
To show the lack of continuity between Brady and his RBs and WRs he listed anyone on the Patriots who touched the ball at any point in Brady's career (multiple players with single digit touches in their Patriots careers), then put that side by side with a list of the Colts star WRs and RBs, leaving out many that did more than some of the Patriots on his list. So Brady's list was huge and Manning's was small. I pointed this out and listed some players that should be listed to make an even comparison (James Mungro was the most obvious 97 carries in 2002 and a similar workload as some of the RBs listed on the Pats side for 03-05)

I never broke the one rule he had posted at the time (no vulgarities) unless he considers disagreeing with him vulgar.

new guidelines
I did notice some community guidelines he's added recently. He pretty much says he'll ban whoever he pleases, whenever he wants to, for whatever he feels like.

yeap
I think it's safe to say Tommasse is a fag.
Go Colts!

wow
I hadn't read those -- bit of a dictator isn't he? He calls it a "community" but will not tolerate anyone questioning his logic or telling him about free speech. Nice attitude for a discussion-oriented sports blog....

Patriots:Whatever it takes
Dirty hit, he brings the elbow way up. He doesn't even land on it because he brought it so far up to catch Losman's knee.

Slo-Mo
Is it my imagination, or does everything seem more dramatic in slow motion?

Am I the only one ...
that thinks that looks coincidental?

by PaytonMenning on Sep 27, 2007 11:19 AM EDT reply actions

So far, yes
Obviously, none of us can say for certain what's going through a player's mind, but I agree with the guys at Profootballtalk.com that it looks intentional. What sealed it for me is that you can see where Wilfork is looking throughout the hit. He's looking right at Losman's leg until the very end when Wilfork's head turns away. It looks like he's lining up his target. I don't dispute that he was blocked into Losman, but it certainly looks to me like he took advantage of the situation to deliver a cheap -- and what could have been career-ending -- shot.

the NFL, evidently, agrees ...
but only for $12,500 worth.

IMHO, if that was intentional it should be far, far more.

by PaytonMenning on Sep 27, 2007 8:11 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah I agree
I understand that the NFL has to go by precedent when meting out fines, but I've always felt that the punishments were too light in these kinds of cases. $12,500 isn't exactly chump change, but neither is it gonna really hurt. It seems like the potential consequences for the victim -- in this case a young QB with millions of dollars of earnings ahead of him -- are much more severe. I'd like to see suspensions, at least in those cases where the league determines that the hit was intentional. Doesn't matter the player or the team; a dirty hit is a dirty hit.

by ctnyc on Sep 27, 2007 9:48 PM EDT up reply actions

I agree
I mean, does 12.5 seem reasonable if Losman's knee was blown because of that hit?  I don't think so.  The league thought it was intentional, and knows that it could have been alot worse than just a sprained knee.  That could have ended Losmans' career.
Go Colts!

cheap shots
rodney harrison is one of the dirtiest players (and I though that even before he came to the pats) with over $200,000 in fines from the league... if he is a team leader on defense is it any wonder they are in to dirty hits and cheap shots?

by bluegirl on Sep 27, 2007 12:29 PM EDT reply actions

interesting
That's pretty fucked up.
Go Colts!
