Pats Trolls

Hey, as expected, we are being assaulted by some Patriot fan trolls. I never mind a little smack talk, but some of them have been saying things way too immature. Although I would like to add, in a rare show of respect for the Evil Empire, that most of the Pats fans on here have been very good and offered some great diary posts. To them I say thank you and to guys like Patriot Nation... well maybe he is still suffering from the affects of a fall he took a few weeks ago...

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Stampede Blue's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Stampede Blue's writers or editors.

I posted
pretty much the same thoughts on a diary that has since been deleted: Don't feed the trolls. We're all frustrated right now, but just ignore these idiots. A little smack talk is reasonable, but deliberate attempts to upset people should be seen for what they are -- the work of small minds. Look folks, it's not life and death; it's football. It sucks to lose, but the sun still came up this morning; life goes on.

We all know people like these trolls in our "real lives," people whose own lives are so messed up they can only get joy from making others feel bad. You see this kind of thing in every walk of life, not just sports. In the big picture, we should probably pity people who cannot enjoy their own team's success without trying to feel superior to others. How unhappy they must be in their own lives.

But if they feel so ignored in their own lives that they have to try to intentionally upset others to get some attention, why should we give it to them?

Good point
Yeah if the Colts had beaten the Pats I would talked some smack, but I would never had said half the stuff the Pats Trolls have been saying.

Excellent points, both of you.
I've been thinking all morning of people I know in "real life" just like some of these poor souls. They don't just enjoy their accomplishments, they have to enjoy the heartache of others. They kick people when they are down. In life, my assessment is always that I'm glad I'm not them. They have to be a miserable person to live with as well, though those around them may be too afraid or polite to tell them.  It shows how much they hate someone else having anything on them in life, which is a recipe for loads of heartache in time, as life is full of disappointments.

Also, we would be celebrating if the roles were reversed, but I know for sure mine would all be done on Colts forums to Colts fans about our own fortunes. If I did go to the sites of the losing teams, which is doubtful in a case this personal, I would only try to be gracious to them in that moment. I've done exactly that to some other fan sites at the end of their season.

I could be a Patriots supporter as a Michigan Wolverines fan, but every time I've tried, a handful of their fans come around and drive a wedge. You'd think they would want others to be impressed and happy with them in their accomplishments, but suprisingly many would rather spit on others in their moments of glory. Again, I know people like this in "real life", too.

Those types do need pity, because they must take life's inevitable disappoinments very hard.

Let me also say that I appreciate the many other Pats fans who have been gracious and classy in times like these.

This is quite an emotional and moving
circle-jerk you've got going on, Ladies. Be careful not to ruin your dresses when you finish.

Most of you guys are decent people
and I think we understand that. But I think a lot of the negative reaction on this site by visitors and the schaudenfreude they engage in at your expense can be traced to the approach and mentality of the proprietor of this blog. As Blitzburgh points out in his comment in the recap post, your site adm. engages in vitriolic bilious taunting and ad-hominem attacks routinely against other fan bases, opposing players and other writers. It is only natural that people come over when the colts lose to return the favor. BTW, Blitz, I'm sure, was taking pains to be diplomatic in his post, since he (blitz) is technically a colleague of this schmuck.

Okay
I don't always agree with BBS' assessments, and I often would be less "attacking" and provoking; but this is his site, and frankly, he's an outstanding blogger. I couldn't hold a candle to his skill in this area, and I accept his personality as he corresponds with his fellow Colts fans. That's why we come here.

There are two points in regard to your last post.

1) BBS posts that on a Colts site, to Colts fans. This is for our audience. I have visited Pats sites before and discovered that they hold sharp opinions about the Colts, but it was their fan site. I didn't start a war of words there. (Of course, some of them would ban you if you didn't always totally agree, let alone be a jerk.)

I can speak for myself when I say that I don't go to your sites and insult you, but rather try and communicate as civil NFL fans. If other Colts fans do that and it bothers you, why don't you show them how to be classier? If the problem is the Colts opinions on Colts sites, why even go there? We are as big of homers as you are. Well, maybe not;)

2)If we want to talk big for fun to hype the competition between each other, great. Whatever. But afterward, when one side is hurting and bleeding in disappointment, maybe that's not the time to go to their place and try to add insult to injury.

If some here are decent people, they are feeling your heat like the ones you want to burn. If it were you, you wouldn't appreciate it. Of course, with your amazing franchise, it's not often you, is it? Stinks for us. Congratulations.

I just don't understand what the point of coming here at this kind of time to make everyone more miserable. I'd say follow the examples of the coaches after they win a game, but perhaps you are. Kidding.

"This is for our audience"
This is the major fallacy in your argument, and I want to make sure you and everyone on this site understands why. Items posted on all sbn member sites are periodically advertised and linked on the sbn home page. The goal, obviously, is to drum up business. So it would be extremely hypocritical and disingenuous of anyone to contend that this is colts-fan-only content, when all sports fans are actively invited to visit. Also, and perhaps more important, items posted in cyberspace are there for all to see. That is the beauty and the curse of the internet. It doesnt matter who posted it or who the intended audience is. The only thing that matters is the actual audience-anyone with a computer and internet connection.
Look, of course it's his site, and he can say anything he wants-freecountry,free speech, etc. But that does not, nor should it, shield him from public criticism. So when he constantly excoriates people in a vituperative and vitriolic fashion (I wonder, if we did a search on this site among his posts, how often the words "douchebag" and "idiot" would come up; my guess is pretty often), there is going to be some blowback.
Finally, I am not, not a pats fan. I think it's funny you assume anyone who criticizes the colts or this site must be a pats fan.

by lomaz on Jan 14, 2008 10:32 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I appreciate
your points, but the major fallacy in your argument is that you're trolling to give BBS "public criticism." If you have a problem with him, fine. That's really not my business. But this particular post was not written or commented on by BBS. And yet you took the opportunity to taunt frustrated, hurting Colts fans who were simply trying to encourage one another to ignore people like you.

A couple of other points: I believe that BBS has a responsibility to maintain the best blog that he can for Colts fans. If the mothership SBN site wants to advertise and link to this site or other SBN sites to drum up business, that's fine. But anybody who thinks that content on individual sites within the SBN network should be homogenized so as to be non-offensive to anyone who owns a computer and may stumble across the home page is an idiot. Oh wait... I'm sorry... a douchebag idiot.

The reason these sites have any traction amongst the nearly infinite options on the world wide web is because like-minded people enjoy forums where they can congregate, celebrate, commiserate, educate, and flat-out bitch with one another.

And despite your obvious hatred of BBS, he is far from the worst of the SBN bloggers. I will say -- as he has said on many occasions -- that BBS is a homer of biblical proportions. But his acknowledgement of this fact should clue his non-Colts-fan audience in that they can take his observations with a liberal grain of salt. I have seen BBS called the most vile names on this site, and yet have been amazed when he refraind from banning the offenders. As you may know if you've followed this site, the Pats Pulpit fuhrer will ban anybody who disagrees with him and refuses to recant. I myself don't always agree with BBS, but I'll take his approach over the "drink the kool-aid" crowd any day.

In the end, if you have a problem with BBS, that's your business. Send him an email and tell him what you think. But if your solution is to call us "ladies" and so forth, then you've already undermined your own arguments for civility.

"Oh wait... a douchebag idiot"
Niiiiiiice. Way to keep it classy and prove my point. By the way, nobody hates your site adm.-he and you are not worth it. Nothing I have written can be remotely construed as hateful. I just think he has zero class. Also, if you dont want non-colts fans here, then dissociate from sbn. You cant have it both ways.

by lomaz on Jan 15, 2008 12:18 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

That was a joke
You know, based on your comment about the prevalence of those words on this site. And sadly, I'm not surprised that you didn't get it.

I've seen nobody on this site say that all non-Colts fans should go away. Just the non-Colts fans who come here to mock and taunt. The ones who come to discuss are many. Seriously, read a few of the posts from today alone before you assume that only Colts fans are welcome. There are good points, and some of us are as critical of the Colts' performance yesterday as some of the non-Colts fans.

And mind you, I'm not hating on you. Not at all. I just think you have no class.

And incidentally, jackass
Is talk of circle jerks and ruining dresses what you consider to be "classy?"

Thanks for playing, I think your mom's calling you.

Very good retort... very funny !

hopefully, this will
put this slice of dialogue to bed. Your first response said it all when you described your guy's style as "attacking and provoking". Hey, like deNiro said in the untouchables:"You mess wit' da bull, you get da horns."

by lomaz on Jan 15, 2008 12:34 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I didn't start
this "slice of dialogue." Coltsfanawalt did. I said nothing about "attacking and provoking."

I think DeNiro's great, though.

Furthermore
I was quotin you on the previous post, if you can read it, about "attacking". Again, I like BBS' blog, and I accept his passion. You, however, are an idiot to come on here at this time and say these things. Clear?

by coltsfanawalt on Jan 15, 2008 11:06 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Hey there...
BBS and I are homers, but we welcome the points of others. However, in regards to our predictions all I can say is that we were wrong. We thought that by getting Harrison back and resting guys who were hurt, like Brock and Addai, that would enable us to really make a push in the playoffs. Sadly, the young guys weren't able to handle it and the injuries to Freeney and McFarland as well as the lose of Rhodes killed our chances.

by MasterRWayne on Jan 14, 2008 5:17 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

nicely pu
At least you can say you were wrong and I give you credit for that.  Hey...it would have been more fun to beat the Colts...but I am sure with our QB's we will continue to battle for many years to come.

And, as a Pats fan...I know how you all feel (after getting smacked in the second half of the AFCCG last year)...it is painful...but remember...I, one of the few wished you luck and gave you congratulations.

Yes
Yes you did. Listen, BBS and I make mistakes, but just remember that we get quite a bit right too. In fact, I said David Garrard was a good QB five years ago when he was in his rookie season. Teams should hire me to be on their scout team! lol
