Stop the insanity ...

Hey, I'm all for our conversations here around the team, about the team, about improving the team, but lately all I see is a lot of crying about this loss. If only K2 had better hands, if only Dungy was a better coach, if only Marvin were healthy.

STOP THROWING YOUR FAVORITE GOAT UNDER THE BUS. It gets old. We're fans of an extraordinary team, that has done things that no other team in NFL history has. 7 playoff trips in the last 10 seasons. One SB victory. For a small market, we should be proud.

Cincy fans would kill to have had our last decade. Raiders fans would kill their own mothers to have even reach the playoffs. In Arizona, hell would freeze over if only the Cards could put together a good season. Remember the 80's? If you're too young, go watch some game tape.

We're lucky, we're fortunate, and we have the #1 or #2 roster in the league right now. Let's hope we make some good improvements in the offseason, and field a better team next year.

Time to move on folks.

And Dungy ...
One of the greatest coaches of all-time. There is no argument there. ALL-TIME.

I'm over it...
I had to get my thoughts and frustrations regarding the game out there.  I don't think the feeling in general is that of ungratefulness.  Most people, I have a feeling, like myself realize how good this team is.  Most of us have sit through the 3-13 seasons.  We aren't trying to knock the team or say that we haven't accomplished a lot.  It's a general feeling of frustration, and fear.  We understand there is a small window this team has.  Eventually our star players are going to begin to decline.  You only get so many chances before your window closes, and we fear returning to the bad times we've almost grown accustom to a Colts fans.  I know we're going to be a playoff team for the next several years, but eventually we'll decline and none of us are looking forward to that.  You can't win 12 games every year, and realistically you can't make the playoffs every year.

PP ...
Good sentiments man. That is exactly the angle I am coming from.

Patriot-colored glasses
The real problem is that the Colts are held to the impossible standard of the Patriots. In almost any other era, the Colts are one of the all time great teams. But when you've got a rivalry with a team that's won three Super Bowls in six years (possibly 4 in 7 in the next few weeks), and you've only won one, it does kind of paint things in a different picture. At the same time, it's an impossible standard to live up to. The Colts would need to win the next three Super Bowls to catch up. At that point, you're talking lunacy. The AFC is too good.

Now, and I know this sounds crazy, the Colts could petition the NFL to move to the NFC. It's bizarre and unprecedented, but it would accomplish two things. 1) the Colts would face statistically weaker competition every year. It would be like playing in the AFC East every year. 2) It would set the stage for a Colts/Pats matchup. I mean, how epic have the playoff games between these teams been? How epic would a Colts/Pats Super Bowl be?

It's entirely wishful thinking, but would be awesome as well.

Wow...
If you think we take heat for the 2005 rule "emphasis" on illegal contact, imagine what would happen if we petitioned the NFL to realign the divisions so the Colts have it easier.

And why should we care about other fan's perception of the Colts?

Let me give you a hint ...
You post on this blog right? Other Colts fans read this blog right?

Are you catching my drift ...

fojasgja
Obviously you didn't understand my point.

Other team's fans have zero influence on my faith and fandom of the Colts.  So if the Colts did indeed switch conferences, why the hell would you care what other people say about the Colts?

Btw, drop the snobby attitude already, it's starting to get pretty old.  None of us have done anything to you in the past so I don't know why you are starting to treat everyone here like shit.

Go Colts!

Me snobby?
You're the one telling people not to care what other people think, then doing nothing but get worked up about what other people think.

sheesh.

Interesting idea...
I think you're on to something here... as long as a team ends up in an easy division (like the AFC East) that team ought to make it to the Super Bowl. Huh??

Indy did fine in the regular season this year. They won their division easy, they earned a week off and a home game in the Div. Playoffs. We should have witnessed that epic battle with the Patriots but the Colts didn't cooperate. Last year, when the Colts got by New England, they knew they had a lock on the SB title... same thing this year with the Patriots. Only, they didn't have to go through Indianapolis to claim the prize.

Going through Indy?
I don't remember where I heard this, but if you go to google maps and "get directions" from Gillette to Super Bowl XLII in at the U of AZ, you HAVE to go through Indianapolis. Driving, that is.

The NFC
Right, so you wouldn't have rather seen the Colts face off against Dallas, Green Bay, NYG, Tampa Bay, Washington, or Seattle?

Put the Colts in the NFC, and we're talking about a pair of 14 point spreads this weekend.

I got news for you
Giants are better than the Chargers, so you would have lost in the divisional round in the NFC as well.

Yeah, those NFC QBs have nothing on Billy Voleck. LOL!!

Perhaps...
But, the Colts stumble in the Chargers game has got me wondering about their will to win the big games.

Maybe this season was doomed from the start with all the tough injuries that Indy had to overcome. I keep telling myself, the Colts are too talented to have lost that football game.

by horseofadifferentcolor on Jan 16, 2008 12:39 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

You're right
that the Colts are talented and should have won, but I think our lack of any kind of pass rush doomed us. Losing Freeney better teach us that we need to address the issue of our DE's this offseason. That was pathetic. I was wondering today how we managed to have such a highly ranked defense with that sorry excuse of a pass rush.

Again, I'm glad that we didn't play the Pats. Brady would've killed us with that lack of pressure and his excellent line.

Her's another thought, though, about teams too talented for their achievements. What about the Chargers? At least around here they never get discussed this way, but there is a team with a truckload of talent that hasn't yet won it all. Nor will they this year, imo. We're always so busy debating the Pats/Colts that I never really considered their postseason success in light of their talent level.

CFW
The loss Freeney cannot be overstated, we (Pats fans) have also had to deal with the harsh reality of rooting for an under-manned team. Last season was especially tough on the health of the Pats D.

I wonder about the Chargers, they played a so-so game against a Titans team that flat-out couldn't score. They then come into the RCA Dome and play out of their ass. I can't explain it. I do know that the Patriots ran into similar situations in the second half of the season - N.E. ran into several super-motivated teams that played their hearts out.

I honestly
don't know what to make of this Chargers team. Apart from being a jerk, Rivers has always been an inconsistent, average-at-best QB. But he looked damned good on Sunday. I know we couldn't get to him, but there were several times when the pocket did start to collapse around him. In each case, he maintained his cool, moved well in the pocket, found the open receiver, and threw accurately. This was not the Rivers I've come to know. If this continues and these playoffs are his coming out party, then the Chargers will be much more formidable than I gave them credit for.

by ctnyc on Jan 16, 2008 3:29 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Me too...
I know... WTF - Rivers played with great poise on Sunday, he made throws on the Colts that I have NEVER seen him make... into good defense! What has happened to Phillip Rivers ?? Well... he's still dickhead but, where did this game come from ?

It will be interesting to see how he does up in Foxboro on Sunday afternoon. Naturally, we (Pats fans) all think that he will not be much of a factor, in fact  N.E. will probably shut down the run and force Rivers to throw to win. They're betting he has not completely changed his stripes.

You may be right...
The Colts shocking loss to the Chargers makes us wonder about such things.
