Nice distraction from the Pats trolls

Hope to give my fellow Colts fans a nice break from the Pats trolls that come here and upset us with their inane statements.

As a New Zealander living in the US for the last 12 years, I can't get enough of my first love: rugby and the way the national team of New Zealand, the All Blacks play it.
The home games are electrifying especially when the team performs the traditional Maori war dance: the Haka.
An english translation of the "Ka Mate" they do is this:

"We are the All Blacks, of the New Zealand people.
Here we are to face you.
We will do you the honor of playing to the limits
that our hearts and sinews impose upon us.
We will be very hard to beat."

Sorry for imposing my native culture, on you guys, but I thought I can share the video that always cheers me up in my most depressed moments.

Rugby
I like it, but not so much. It's very macho indeed, almost Rambo-like. :)

HMM
Any chance we could get the starting lineup to do that when they hit the field? We could have Peyton leading it. I think it'd be a great intimidator.

The announcer
At the beginning is the announcer there that crazy Ivan Zimmerman from the Joe Addai Flip TD video?  I'm not a Romance language expert, but that sounds a lot more like Portugese than Spanish.  But anyway, great vid, I could see how that would be very exciting in person.  I just can't get into rugby though, I don't know why.

It's italian, actually
My mother is italian, so it's kinda like my second language. I made a translation of that Addai flip TD, and people said I spoiled it. So, I won't spoil this one. :)

Glad you guys like it...
Yeah and a version of the haka is performed by the Univ of Hawaii (?) team. It's a Polynesian tradition.
Yeah we need to do that to the Pats, have something crazy to make them pee in their pants next time they come around to the shiny new stadium. Wait we don't need that, the Indy crowd's good enough :)
I remember going to my first AB game at age 7 with my dad and I was hooked.

Rugger can be slow moving compared to the NFL, but man the intensity is definitely there.

Thx for sharing
Yeah. that is Italian all right.

I like Rugby.. just not as much as American Football.

MerryGoByeBye...do you live in the States?

Lived for a long time
About 10 years, most of it in Boston. Now I live in my homecountry, Brazil. My father got tired of me, so I got punted right back to Santa Catarina. :)

I was at that CL match
My mother is a hardcore Milan fan, so we all went to Istanbul thanks to my father, who's a nice man. I tell you, I've never felt the way I did hearing all the fans shouting. It was the most beautiful thing I ever saw. By the end of the game, I was shouting too. :)

I also went to this last one against Milan, but alone this time. And I also have a stranger reason for being a Colts fan, since I never lived in Indianapolis. I'm a huge Reggie Miller fan, since the first day I saw him playing ('huge fan' since that 8 points in 8 seconds game). So I'm a big Pacers fan. When I started caring for football, I needed a team. So I took the Colts because of the Pacers. I don't regret this decision. It was the best one I could ever take.

Gotta love the All Blacks
I was fortunate enough to have been in Cardiff back in 1999 when the World Cup was held there. The All Blacks were amazing, even though they ended up losing to the French (yeah, I lost money on that one). It was my first exposure to the Haka. While I doubt that it actually intimidates the opposition, it's still really cool to watch. Definitely one of the greatest traditions in the world of sports.

BTW, I noticed while watching some of the 2007 World Cup matches that the All Blacks did not do the throat slit motion at the end of the Haka. Are they going politically correct on us?

by Blue Guanxi on Jan 21, 2008 5:54 AM EST   0 recs

yeah
It was voted to be too aggressive by the NZ people. :(
The explanation given: "It's a game not war"
Besides they change the Haka out every 3-4 years from what I've seen.
Man, I wish I could've seen more of Jonah-boy. Missed the 1999 WC cause I was stuck in the US with exams and thesis-work. :(

Similar to Colts?
Jonah Lomu was a man among boys. It's really a shame that so few people in the US ever got to see him. Any fan of the NFL would have loved watching him run the ball.

While were on this topic, do you see any similarities between the All Blacks and the Colts? Such as being the team that epitomizes excellence in their respective sports, yet fails to live up to expectations (winning it all)?
