Romo out
It looks like the beating that Romo took yesterday left him with a broken finger. He should miss about 4 games. Brad Johnson will take over at QB. Owens can't be thrilled and Phillips may be gone.
I never cheer for a player to go down but it's nice to see Dallas having problems. It's going to be a good week down here in Texas. We stomp Baltimore and Dallas loses. I'm already enjoying rubbing it in to the co-workers.

Romo
Romo being out might actually be a good thing for Dallas. Romo has been awful protecting the football of late. I don’t give a f&$k how many TDs he throws. The fumbles and the INTs are the kind of stuff that KILLS football team. He should have had a safety called against him yesterday because, once again, he held onto the football too long. But, the ref blew it. Arizona won the game anyway, but a big reason they won was the awful play of Romo, who at times seems disinterested.
One thing I do know, Tony Romo would never play for a Tony Dungy team. Dungy will bench your sorry butt if you turn the football over the way Romo does. The number 1 priority of any QB, no matter how good, is to protect the football. TDs and big plays come second to football protection. Romo is horrible protecting the football right now. Maybe getting hurt will force him to sit back and learn how to protect it.

Johnson
isn’t exactly known for getting rid of the ball quickly. He’ll be a sitting duck behind that over-rated line. I don’t think Romo being out will help because turnovers or not, he’s better than Johnson.
Just curious but where is Terry through all this?

Terry.
I can’t remember if he gave us a hard time when Peyton had his surgeries (Colts have confirmed there were 2 surgeries now). I think he was ok. Do you remember?

I never said anything
other than it would take 3-4 games to get his timing back before he was himself, which I was right.
At least Manning never missed a game due to his surgery, it will be ugly with Johnson at qb and I mean ugly. I think we might have a shot at the Rams but thats about it.

I really do feel bad for you guys. Sincerely. You know I like TR.
The injuries this year have been unbelievable.

the ref didn't blow it
its called the Tuck rule BBS, try knowing your rules better.
Romo might have some turnovers once in a while (BTW he only fumbled once that was recovered by Arizona and that was on a blind side hit, I’ve seen Peyton do that before), but he’s a big time playmaker and was the primary reason the Cowboys have won 4 games this season.
The Cowboys will be lucky to win one game without Romo, you don’t lose one of the best qbs in the league( check out his 113 qb rating) and get better, thats ridiculous. The Cowboys will be much worse, trust me.

The Tuck Rule.
Yeah, I saw that (its a crappy rule IMO), however there was that first fumble that the refs didn’t call and should have. That was a gimme for Romo.
And, BTW, I don’t think you guys are better off without him. I think that ideally, your better off with him making better decisions.

I don't know too many QBs
who wouldn’t fumble getting mauled by NFL DL all day long, and that includes your boy Peyton, I’ve seen him fumble too when blindsided.
The fumble you’re talking about he was stripped as well. That has nothing to do about making poor decisions, it has to do with poor OL play. Our OL had the worst game I’ve seen them have since Romo started, it was bad.

"Might have some turnovers"
Romo has now started 32 games in his career, a full 2 seasons.
How many games has Romo started that he did not have a Turnover (either an INT or Fumble Lost)?
by mgrex03 on Oct 13, 2008 3:21 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
well, considering his team
won 23 of them (72%), I’m sure most of those TO weren’t that critical to winning or losing.

You didn't answer my question
How many games has Romo started that he did not have a Turnover?
I’ll give you a hint…it is less than the number of fingers on one hand.

Only 7 without a pick
PFR doesn’t show me fumbles in the game logs.

last season (a “down” season) Peyton had 7 games without a pick.

A Whopping 3 Games
They are:
Nov. 5, 2006 vs. WAS
Nov. 23, 2006 vs. TB
Sept. 16, 2007 vs. MIA
That is 20 games in a row with a Turnover!! 21 if you count the playoff game against the Giants.
He’s started 34 total games (incl. Playoffs), and had a Turnover in 31. that is 91% of his starts, he commits at least 1 turnover. Those are facts. I can’t wait to hear the spin on this.

as evidenced by the team’s winning %.

You are saying it doesn't matter
Because he is a turnover machine.
Maybe the Cowboys are good enough to win in spite of Romo? I guess we’ll find out.
I’m glad you are ok with your Quarterback turning the ball over 21 games in a row. I certainly wouldn’t be happy, even with winning 70% of those games.

Romo is who he is
he’s a gun slinger who will make tons of big plays and some bad, but the good will always outweigh the bad, which is why he wins over 70% of the time.

Yes Romo personally wins
it’s not the team the decides the game it’s all the QBs

can't have it both ways
if you take that position, then you can’t say he hasn’t won a playoff game yet. The Cowboys haven’t won a playoff game yet.

So right
If anyone should know better, we should. Perhaps people just like to push Terry’s buttons like he has been known to push ours. But football is a team sport. The team wins, and the team loses. Like both Manning and Terry have said to the critics, you can’t have it both ways.

This May Be The Same Non-Fumble...
…but what about the play where the refs said his progress had stopped so the fumble didn’t count. I see this called more often with QBs than any other position (RB, WR). It’s different when progress really has been stopped, but most of the time the QB is still fighting to get out of the grasp of the defender. If the knee isn’t down, let them frickin’ play. The spectacular catch in the Super Bowl almost didn’t occur b/c the ref said he almost blew the whistle to say Eli’s progression had stopped.

Romo was stopped and wasn't going anywhere
The DL had him bear wrapped and then stripped the ball after the whistle had blown. I don’t know of too many people that can hold on to a football with one hand while being mauled by a 300 lbs beast.

I don't know of too many people who play QB in the NFL :)
But seriously, I’m sort of with Terry here. As annoying it may be to have your qb killing drive after drive turning it over, it still doesn’t matter if the team wins. Especially b/c of the big plays the very same guy made.
I’m just glad we have a QB who is able to both protect the ball and perform with the ball.

Terry
I am sorry for the news. Romo is a great QB. This is a blow to the team. I hate it when a season’s success is affected by injuries. Here’s to a speedier recovery than expected!

Romo
I like Romo a lot, but he definitely tends to lose the ball a lot. Brad Johnson, on the other hand, was an incredibly smart and accurate passer when he won the superbowl with the Bucs. I wish the Colts had a back-up that good.

Isn’t looking too weak armed, thought I will not make any premature assumptions about Brad Johnson.

Since you brought him up I have to use this quote from FO's audibles
(On Kurt Warner)
He’s kind of like a mythic hero with one clear and fatal weakness (he fumbles at the drop of the hat). Maybe his mom held him by the thumb when she dipped him into the river Styx.

Old
They also tried to imply that statement about Farve, although I’m not a fan of the Jets he doesn’t look like he’s ready for the retirement home just yet.

You have a point but both Warner and Favre
were league MVP caliber players in their primes. Favre is a sure thing HOFer and Warner had one of the highest career peaks ever and is having a bit of a resurgence now (at 37 two years younger than Johnson). They have a long way to fall. Brad Johnson was just pretty good at his peak.
Brad Johnson won’t be a disaster if they can protect him. They’ll do pretty well if they can protect him. If they can’t though, it’ll be ugly. Remember Bledsoe behind that line before Romo became the starter.
