Dominic Rhodes vs Kenton Keith

So this Sunday Joseph Addai and Mike Hart went down in a pretty short span, leaving the Colts with just Dominic Rhodes available at RB. I said to myself, "no problem for this game as long as Rhodes doesn't get hurt."

Today I got to thinking, "what if Indy still had Kenton Keith instead of Rhodes?" I would not have felt so good about my team's situation.

Then I had a scary thought: "what if the Colts had kept Dom last season?" I think they would have beaten San Diego. After that? SB repeat? Scary thought!

Ugh

A little warning please! I thought I was gonna see a Dom highlight. Instead, I’m cleaning puke off my shirt.

Ok.

Here’s a Dom highlight. Go here and either watch the whole thing or jump to 1:20 to see the Rhodes run.

See Rhodes

See Rhodes run.

Run, Rhodes, run.

Who can watch that and not flashback to the 2006 game? I’m glad Dom’s back on the team.

Oh dear god

When I saw this post I thought this might be a suggestion to bring him. I hope to god thats not the case.

Cap issue

I believe it was a cap issue. Dom left to get paid, and when he left our offense he wasn’t the same.

The sad thing is, the Colts might have too if Addai’s hamstring and Hart’s knee become re-occuring problems.

We Colts fans did not pay $720 million dollars in public funds to build a brand new stadium that will get opened on Sunday Night Football by Jim Friggin Sorgi.

From Phil B's chat

Kenton Keith is with a CFL team and there are rules again grabbing guys off CFL teams before their season is over.

Rest easy. Kenton isn’t coming back soon.

You're right...

if Kenton Keith could simply catch a pass, we’d have beaten San Diego. Ugh.

Dominic is a good back, but the Colts must call the right plays for him. Dom doesn’t run the stretch play well; his strength is the “quick hit” type of run. Go upfield and hit the hole quickly. When he does that, he’s effective.

The Colts figured this out in 2006 (or seemed to, at least), and they were a very strong running team because of it. When they try to have Dom do everything that Addai does, he’s not as effective.

As much as everyone here hates Keith

Keith > Dawson
Keith > Simpson

I don't know ...

I think this is still to be determined … K2 had some nice runs, but can either of these guys catch passes, or pick up the blitz ?? i.e. things Addai does extremely well and things any RB should be able to do

Kenton isn't just a better runner than those two

he’s a better runner than Dom. The issue is he can’t catch and isn’t a good blocker.

True

But he’s a far better runner than the others, which is why I was upset they tossed him.

I agree

You can’t be an effective running back on a Peyton Manning offense if you can’t catch the ball!
