Ask Acme Packing Company (Week 7)

Hello, Colts fans. I was expecting one of the higher-ups on our site (Brandon or Mitchell) to do this, but it appears they forgot. Do you have any questions about the Packers that you would like answered?

A FYI (in the style of Mr.BlueShoe,) I have always liked the Colts. They really seem like the "good guys" of the AFC, what with the Pats cheating and everyone else being boring. Peyton was great on SNL, and I think I read that Bob Sanders does a lot of charity work or something. Anyways, I know you guys hate the Pats, and so do I.

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Stampede Blue's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Stampede Blue's writers or editors.

We (the vast majority) are in love with Aaron

There are some “Favre Purists” out there, but I think that Ted Thompson made the right call. He has passed for 11 TDs and thrown only 4 INTs (2 were not his fault), while playing through a nagging right shoulder injury that has kept him from throwing at all in practice. He has been able to throw the long ball like Favre, and seems to have great chemistry with Jennings and Driver. He had one bad 3 INT game, but has been average or, most of the time, spectacular elsewise. He just has no support from the running game, but that’s another story. Bottom Line: We love Aaron.

Ryan Grant

What do you think is the reason he isn’t producing like last year? Is it him, or your line, or something else?

BTW I have always rooted for the Pack and I really like Aaron Rodgers. I know this game is going to be a challenge.

Oh boy...

Where do I start… Well, Grant led the NFL in rushing yards from week 8 on, so of course I was expecting a drop-off from that performance. He was, after all, cut by the Giants. This season has been mediocre. The biggest change has been his drop in YPC. He went from 5.1 last year to 3.4 this year, so he’s loosing 1.7 YPC each time he runs. I don’t believe the line is the problem. They are not fabulous, and Chad Clifton and Scott Wells (LT and C) have been hurt. Maybe it’s their fault a little. As a unit, I believe they get the job done. I think the major problem has been injury for Grant. He pulled a hammy in the preseason, and I think it has taken him a long time to recover from that. Proof of this is that he’s improved the last 2 weeks, gaining 83 and then 90 yards after a VERY slow start. Not fabulous, but solid. The big stat there was the Grant-of-last-year -like 4.6 YPC he had against Atlanta. He carried the ball 33 times for those 90 yards last week in Seattle, and was unable to break many runs of over 5 yards. This was a little disturbing. I look for him to have a breakout week against your weak Run D (sorry.) Maybe he’ll finally get into the end zone. As Brandon expressed earlier this week, if Grant gets over 100 yards this week, he (and I) think we can win the game. I think he has a lot of pressure to prove he wasn’t a fluke, and the injury has been a huge factor, and the o-line hasn’t been a good as it could be. We’ll see how he does.

Covering my shift

Rhys! It’s cool to see you step in and represent Acme Packing Company.

I’m in agreement with your responses except this one. I’m blaming the offensive line more than Grant. He is rarely given an open lane to run through. He excelled in the open field last season, and he’s only had two or three open field opportunities this season.

Al Harris

Is Al Harris going to play… If peyton and marvin are back on the same page, I’d think you’d need him in there…

He is - officially "doubtful" for this week

He has, however, said that he wants to play. I think that McCarthy will keep him out, for two reasons. First is that Al is old (in football terms) and McCarthy wants him to give him time to recuperate and rest (we have a bye next week.) Second, Tramon Willimas has developed into a solid # 2 corner. He has had 14 tackles, 4 passes defended and 3 INTs in his three starts since Al went down. Watching the games, he seems competent and makes big plays. That said, I love Al. He fits better in our bump n’ run coverage scheme and has a great wingspan. He is an experienced CB and certainly better than our current # 3, Will Blackmon (who is more of a kick/punt returner.) I would love to see Al at #3 or #2 but I’m not so sure that McCarthy will let him play. As far as Marvin and Reggie go…Woodson has been an absolute beast and Tramon has been pretty solid. Nick Collins and Aaron Rouse/Atari Bigby provide great help from the saftey position. It’ll be an interesting matchup.

(BTW, I ripped most of the Tramon/Harris stats from Mitchell’s most recent (and more detailed) post @ APC)

Speaking of DB's

When is Bigby coming back? And I heard Rouse just got hurt, so who ’s behind him?

Bigby is more likely to be back this week than Harris...

He is “questionable.” He has a pretty bad hamstring strain and has sat out the last two games. Aaron Rouse has proved a capable replacement. You are right – Rouse has a banged-up knee. However, it is not very serious and he has played the last few games with it. He should play on Sunday. Just to answer your question, his back-up would be Charlie Peprah (who??,) who has had limited playing time this year and is mediocre at best.

Rookie WR

How is Jordy Nelson looking this season? It seems a little odd for Green Bay to take a WR in the second round considering their depth that they already have, but Jordy did have amazing hands in college. Does he look like he’ll be a good fit?

by Sanders_fan89 on Oct 16, 2008 9:47 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Jordy

Has been an absolutely rock sold 3rd wide receiver as a rookie. He has 14 catches for 158 yards and a touchdown. He wasn’t supposed to get that much playing time, but the injury to second-year-starter James Jones forced him into duty. To tell you the truth, my initial reaction to the pick was negative. I thought we needed CB’s (and we still do, a little,) but the pick has turned out to be smart and helpful. He had 4 acrobatic catches for 42 yards last week and seems to be gelling really well with Rodgers. He does have great hands. Jones is relatively healthy now (knee,) so I don’t know how much we’ll be seeing of him this weekend. I consider the Packers very lucky to have Greg (The Professor) Jennings, Donald Driver, James Jones, Jordy, and the unheralded Ruvell Martin as our deep set of 5 receivers. If only Grant was better….

Hmm...

I’m a displaced Packer fan at the moment, so I’m afraid I’m no help. Hopefully someone else can chime in.

Update:

From McCarthy’s Thurdsay Press Confrence…

Looks like James Jones and Al Harris will be out (more time for Jordy + Tramon)
Looks like Ryan Pickett, Atari Bigy, and Justin Harrell are questionable
Looks like Rodgers threw in practice for 75% of the time and looks good, A.J. Hawk is almost back to normal, and Scott Wells has a minor injury
And that’s about it…
