Lilja

I've been curious recently about Lilja due to the fact that you do not hear much about him. As an example I know he's on the PUP along with Hagler but Polian has at least mentioned Hagler either on his radio show or on the colts site. So I posed a question to Phil at the Indystar and here is the question and answer:

Phil do you know anything about how Lilja is doing and if he'll be back wk6??

PHIL B: Lilja has declined to talk about his situation and I've been told he's very frustrated. Just my guess, but I think his knee hasn't responded to the surgery and he may not be ready after Week 6, when PUP guys are available. Hagler, on the other hand, is in the locker room all the time and sounds eager. I expect him to be ready for Green Bay.

Good thing we drafted 3 solid offensive linemen because that's about all I'm getting from this. Injuries suck.

that's interesting....

I asked a similar question on 9/17 and Phil sounded more positive…I guess that has changed.

Hi Phil,

Thanks as always for your insight. I enjoy reading and check daily. I was wondering if there have been any updates on Ryan Lilja. I know he is on PUP and cannot to return until week 6, but will he return for week 6? Are players on PUP allowed to practice? If he hasn’t been practicing, then I doubt he comes back week 6 due to being out of shape. But he must be back by week 10 or they have to IR him. Just curious as with all the o-line injuries, I have heard nothing. Also, is Pollak on track to return after the bye? As a fan, it is frustrating with the lack of info, but at the same time, I understand we don’t want to show our hand to the competition.

PHIL B: True to form, Lilja hasn’t talked much about his injury. If you’re hurt, you usually don’t talk. But he’s eligible to come off PUP after Week 6. So, his first game could be at Green Bay on Oct. 19. Then there’s a three-week period where the Colts have to make a decision. But from what I know about the situation, I think Lilja, just like Tyjuan Hagler, will be ready.

thanks

I haven’t been able to find anything on Lilja. I know he was recovering from offseason surgery and went on the PUP, but got nothing else. Polian skipped over him talking about the guys getting back healthy soon.

Yep

That’s what got me wondering Polian hasn’t mentioned him at all recently. Hopefully it’ll just take him a little longer than week 6 but you’ve got to think that much longer and Polian will have to make a decision to IR him or not. We’ll see I guess.

depth on line

even if Lilja ends up on IR.. if all the other linemen we have get healthy, I’d say we have enough depth that it wouldn’t be a big problem. If the line keeps playing together an improving until week 6, we may not need him that badly anyways… (Though it would be nice to have him back and the line at full strength.)

Question-

Does anyone know how much cheaper Lilja was than Jake Scott? It seems the decision to keep Lilja than Scott has backfired just a bit, but I’m assuming we couldn’t keep Scott either way. Comments?

Scott Signed for 4 years 19.5 million

Lilja signed for 5 years 19 million

So Lilja is about a million a year cheaper and under contract for an extra year.

Thanks

Hopefully Lilja comes off the PUP list healthy, but once he does come back, the O-Line should be stacked if no other significant injuries occur.
