Location: LP Field- Nashville, TN
Kick-off Time: 8:30pm Eastern
Broadcast: ESPN

Music City Miracles

Second half open thread. Colts defense playing well, but they have left three turnovers on the field. To put it mildly, the Titans are lucky they down only 7-6. They should be getting blown out now. But, because this is 2008, we have a ball game. Enjoy this open thread, and Go Colts!

so close...

we have been so close to breaking this one open… That fumble where I don’t know what happened with the call and sessions almost pick..

Tennessee’s defense is already huffing and puffing. Hopefully defense gets the turnover in the second half and there defense collapses because they can’t keep up…

Difference in the game so far

the Titans D caught the tipped pass they saw. The Colts D dropped two.

bironas miss

yeah, but their pick didn’t give them points. (though we probably lost at least three).. They flashed up how bironas hadn’t missed a kick in 20 games and this tied some titans record… kiss of death.. you knew he had to miss the next one.

And was that Muir coming in on the FG kicks???

Once again...

I wouldn’t say trade Peyton or anything…but he’s been just a tad off this season. And that little extra is the difference between a TD or a 1st down in our offense.

by zkmavz on Oct 27, 2008 10:45 PM EDT up reply actions

Whining about whiners

In a game in which we’ve played pretty damn good football… the defense has played stellar ball… penalties killed us there more than 3rd down inefficiency or failures and the offense needs to put the ball in the endzone or through the posts more often when they are given opportunities. The offense is playing well… all things considered… but we could be up more. You’re right.

by bamock on Oct 27, 2008 10:46 PM EDT up reply actions

This game should not be tied

The Offense is clicking, well run game is at least, and the defense can stop them as long as it’s not 3rd down.

Buffalo is 5-2, and the Jets and Ravens are 4-3. Then you have a bunch of tams like us. Does ANYONE really see the JETS holding up??? Not a chance. And Buffalo and the Ravens certainly aren’t unstoppable.

Granted, San Diego, Jacksonville, Houston, Miami, and Cleveland are all right there with us. But that’s certainly possible.

We are not a playoff-worthy team. We may make the playoffs, but that would be because the NFL sucks overall this season.

right now we aren't

but that doesn’t mean we can’t turn it around, if we do get a wild card this team will improve ALOT.
look at the giants last year, 0-2 start, lots of adversity wild card team, 3 road playoff games and super bowl victory.
you gotta have faith

there is a HUGE difference. the Giants actually showed improvement and played well after that 02 start. Same with the Chargers after their bad start. INDY IS SHOWING NO REAL IMPROVEMENT. As one area improves, 3 more regress.

I believe that based on the talent the team COULD go on a nice win streak and make the playoffs but I am pretty sure they WON’T. There is a huge difference between the two.

If you really want to hold on and keep thinking that the magic football fairy is going to sprinkle some dust on this team then fine but they looked as bad or worse today (aside from fewer penalties) than they did last week and he more shit play the less confidence you have.

Really people, the reality is this team is lucky to be 3-4. If Sage didn’t hand them that game and if the Vikes didn’t go crazy they could easily be 1-6.

2008 Colts are simply not good. Maybe in a year we will look back and be happy this year happened because they will get something decent in the draft and will be humbled by this season and they will kick ass. I have faith….for 2009.

No, you don’t. Faith without evidence is a step away from stupidity. Yeah, sometimes you will be vindicated simply by dumb luck, but mostly you’ll just be wrong with maybe a warm, fuzzy feeling for some bullshit comfort. They have not shown us more than one good game plus a few minutes of good football spoiled by gross ineptitude. If they were playing well even half the time, then you’d have a case. If they could put together more than one complete game in 7, then maybe you’d have a case. This team needs to be shaken up and kicked in the ass, not consoled. You don’t stay the course when you’re driving toward a goddamned cliff.

Maybe

for once, the Colts should admit (prior to the game) that it’s a must-win game……instead of just denying that and saying it’s a big game?

Well, was surprised by the D in the 1st half and the O on that opening 2nd half drive looked great but bam, Indy goes back to their 2008 selves and suck. Love the total abandonment of the run after that great 2nd half drive and calling a run on 4th and 1 was real logical as was going for a 18 yard pass to a double covered wayne on 3rd and 3 then passing to a covered marvin on a 4th and 3. Horrible playcalling. HORRIBLE.

Will all the diehard fanboys (yes, there is a diff between being a fan and a fanboy) finally accept that the 08 Colts are shit?

Will all the Colts fanboys accept that Manning has regressed? The 2nd INT was obviously not his fault but he made poor decision after poor decision tonight. Oh and Manning is my favourite football player. Reality is he has regressed this season in decision making and hopefully for 09 he’ll be back to the Peyts of 03-07.

Will all the fanboys accept that this team needs a serious scheme change specifically on defense? I don’t give a fuck how the tampa 2 has been successful in the past. It is clear that with Indy’s personnel that it isn’t good. The offense has for years been masking the deficiencies in it and this year with the offense so horrid everyone is clearly seeing how weak the scheme is. PLUS, teams have adapted to how Indy plays it while Indy has REFUSED TO ADAPT to ANYTHING. Same offense, same defense. Both not working at all but they keep at it.

Indy is done for 08. The only way they make the playoffs is if all the teams with similar records somehow suck worse than Indy has. I realize indy COULD go on a run and COULD even finish 12-4 but THE TEAM HAS SHOWN NO OVERALL IMPROVEMENT for anyone to logically think it will happen. I am sure next week they will get pimped out by the Pats.

What a disappointing year but oh well…I’m not the one being made millions to go out there and fuck it up. As a fan it sucks especially since I came in expecting them to have a great year but I’ll manage to live.

Our defense played good our running was game was really good and our offensive line was fantastic. But our bread and butter our passing is not so good. Peyton had plenty if time to throw the ball. What happen to peyton man, he is averaging at least two int a game. and the offensive is not scoring only puttng up only 14 points a game. Our defense kept us in the game. but our offensive could not produce enough points.

Letting the other team score 17 unanswered points in the 4th isn’t really good. The rest of the game they played good. But overall, I don’t think so.

Complacency

and a lack of pride, heart, and urgency.

But special teams are better, no? Can we have one fuggin tiny ray of sunshine?

by BlueU on Oct 28, 2008 12:00 AM EDT up reply actions

OK, now I’m a believer—this team sucks and will be blessed if they crack 8-8, and I actually hope they just keep losing so that maybe next year sees a slightly easier sched and a higher draft pick. I would have been more optimistic if it’d just been a straight blowout. They started out well enough and managed to counter the Titans’ strengths, but also managed to fall apart in spectacular fashion again for no good reason, which leads me to believe that they’ll be dedicated to finding ways to lose regardless of the personnel situation . The Titans are not the friggin’ 2007 Pats, but damned if Indy’s D doesn’t know that (even if they actually played the ’07 Pats better). No pressure and no coverage… why even pay 11 guys to play D when 8 can probably suck just as much? And the offensive play calling and execution—WTF?

by BlueU on Oct 27, 2008 11:42 PM EDT reply actions

We don’t want them to suck too much. They can’t afford to pay anyone in the top 5 of the draft and we don’t want Peyton’s stats of this season to keep pulling down all his career stats.

by tapper on Oct 28, 2008 12:42 AM EDT up reply actions

Hey guys we can’t win it every year, sooner or later this was bound to happen, but at least we maybe we get a higher draft pick and a easier schedule next year. I love my colts and i will be by them through thick and tin. I think we really need a big time wide out though, i think marvin age is catching up with him. Now i would love to be wrong but, i cant say otherwise till he proofs me wrong, an as for peyton he clearly isn’t himself. He is averaging two int a game.

Oh well. I already feel better. Love the Colts. Love Rhodes.

May the wind be always at your back, and may your placekicker have icewater in his veins.
