Wow. Peter King has something positive to say...
But I don't think the Colts are cooked. Not by any means.
You guys know how I feel about PK. I'm surprised that I even bothered to read this article. However, he has a valid point...one I've heard expressed here by many knowledgeable fans..
I would like to know what you guys think about his plan to "fix" this team. Do you think Marvin is almost done? Do you think that Anthony should be the new "go to guy".
I wasn't able to watch the entire game on Sunday. Was Marvin running his routes the way he used to and Peyton was missing him?

Manning to Harrison
I personally do not think Harrison is done. There was one play in particular during the game where I thought for sure it was going to be a TD because Harrsion had his guy beat by at least a step. It’s a play we’ve seen Manning hit Harrison with a million times but they didn’t connect. When they went to the sidelines the tv camera caught the two clearly discussing the play and what should’ve happened. But whether Manning over threw it or Harrison ran the wrong route I do not know. I was hoping it would be discussed on Polian’s radio show Monday night but it was not.
Also, I will read the PK article I just wanted to get my thoughts on 18/88 out there while I was thinking about it..

Harrison actually looked pretty good
The pass Manning threw was on Harrison’s left side, along with two defenders. Even if the play called for Harrison to cut a little to the left, he couldn’t have; that’s precisely where the two defenders were. Besides, the pass was a little overthrown anyway, and thank goodness for that, or it would have been intercepted. The way I see it, the Colts have two significant problems: 1) The defense is going to have to ‘pick their poison’…either bone-up at the line and stop the run, or play all pass defense. I recommend stopping the run. Also, in either situation, have Freeney play the run on 1st and 2nd down…period. 2) The offensive coordinators have to send it better plays. They have to stop running Addai straight up the middle—a draw play, an occassional stretch play, and pass to him out of the backfield; Gonzalez has got to learn to catch the ball over his shoulder—he has killed several huge drives dropping that particular type of pass, and after he dropped another in the Houston game, Manning never went back to him; and lastly, draw up better plays for Clark. Defenses are clogging up the deep-middle, so throw some shorter sideline passes to Clark to open things up a bit. When the Colts are scoring, it has a kind of psychological warfare effect on their opponent. Even if the game is close, whoever is playing the Colts (when the Colts are scoring touchdowns) gets this irrational sense of desperation to score touch downs, which ultimately causes them to make mistakes. I’ve seen too many Colts opponents blow an opportunity for a field goal, by trying too hard to get into the endzone. That used to be our recipe for success.

I have also wondered
about the Manning/Harrison discussion after that missed opportunity. It seems to me that Peyton has lost a little power in his deep ball, as evidenced by a couple of underthrows Sunday where the receiver had a couple of steps on the corner. If this is true, it is doubtless an effect of the medication/appetite suppressant he has been taking for his knee. He sure has lost weight. That should be fixable one day, though.
Gonzo has seemed to drop a couple of balls more than I’d like, but I am basing that off my loose observation and perception rather than off research and statistics. I think Marvin is fine. Reggie is ridiculous. What a catch.
And Peter King is still an idiot.

Reggis IS ridiculous.
And, you’re right, Peter King is still an idiot…

Peyton
is STILL on medication for his knee? I remember hearing that during the Chicago game.
What could he possibly still be taking? I was hoping by now he would be gaining some weight back.
Does anyone know about this?

I thought I heard he would be dealing with the knee all season.
I don’t know if he is still on meds, but I don’t think he has regained his weight either way. I thought about that factor during both of those very underthrown passes on Sunday. Two easy TDs before this season. The receivers had beaten their coverage convincingly.

Oh.
Yeah, he is still underweight. That definitely has to be a factor. Bummer.
Thanks for the info, btw.

Not Marvin's fault
to me, it still seems like Peyton is a bit off. there have been about 3-4 long passes per game that he has simply over or under thrown. not so much that he’s “lost power in the deep ball” because he has overthrown marvin several times this season already. perhaps marvin is slowed down just a step but overall it just looks to me like Peyton is still getting his timing down. especially when you consider the protection he has had and thus the lack of opportunity for deep balls, i get the feeling this will get easier as the year goes on. we’ll see…

My Opinion on Harrison
After seeing the over/undethowns to Harrison from Peyton, I think Harrison maybe does not have that breakaway speed that he once had. However, he still has that crazy quickness to seperate from his defender which is why he’s been able to catch a lot of short passes. It seems like Harrison always has a step on his defender on those deep balls, but him and Peyton cant seem to connect because maybe Harrison doesn’t have that last burst of speed that Manning is used to. I think really soon, they will find that rythm or timing and Harrisons productivity will show statistically. HARRISON IS NOT DONE!

Marvin is fine and it is just a timing issue between them mostly because Peyton has been bad at long passes this season.
