Around SBN: Is Norv Turner the Problem? Bar-right-arrows

Wow just wow

We have all continuously complain about officiating in our league today particularly holding penalties when we discuss our team. As you know we constantly see Offensive tackles from other teams hold Freeney and we dont see a single flag being thrown. Well I found this little tid bit on the indy star

"I've actually had a ref tell me he's not going to call holding unless he thinks I'm going to make the play," said Freeney, the franchise sacks leader with 63. "I used to get holding calls. Now they don't call anything. . . . It's ridiculous. Against Jacksonville, there was a guy who grabbed me by my hips and pulled me back."

Really? A ref straight out tells a player "I wont call a player for holding unless I have a feeling you will make the play?" Im stunned. This has to change. People may say we are a bunch of whiners who complain to the NFL in order to gain an advantage. Fact is, the rules are the rules and they were ment to be enforced. We wont be trying to get an advantage, we just want to enforce whats right.

John Ogden should have held Freeney..

When Ogden’s bust goes up in the Hall of Fame they should place a picture of Freeney next to it with a note- “Except when playing against this guy.”

I think it was the size difference

Ogden is massive, which usually helped him, but Freeney is a small insanely quick, fast moving target and Ogden couldn’t get low or outside fast enough.

Initially, I refused to complain about the crappy calls this year. I put our loss to Jacksonville on the team (in that, if they had played better we wouldn’t have been in the position where 1 single non-call, call could have made a difference).

HOWEVER, after continuously seeing non-calls (Reggie Bush’s facemask Monday night) and over-board calls (face masks like every other play – not intentional, just brushing a hand up against the helmet when making a play – what used to be an incidental). I AM BEGINNING TO GET PISSED OFF.

I have to say that this is THE WORST YEAR IN FOOTBALL OFFICIATING I have ever seen.

I agree, let’s adhere to the rules. I have to say that some of the calls are so blatantly wrong, its….its…..ugh!!!

Sorry about the rant.

Officials confused and too subjective

The same play can generate 5 perspectives and it is always up in the air what the official will call. How many times have officials disappeared under the hood only to reappear with the obvious wrong call? It is alarming. We lost to Tenn. because of a an UNBELIEVABLE roughing the passer on Suggs. On Tenn’s winning pass Ray Lewis was lifted up by a lineman and slammed to his back at Collins feet. How did they miss that. I’m not belly aching but it has been bad. How can you tackle a guy tight roping the sidelines without being called for late hit out of bounds. The refs have to start feeling the game and set aside the rule book bible at times. In Sugg’s case, his hand hit Collins helmet as he was reaching to block a pass and was being blocked at the same time. That’s a game changing personal foul. Stupid.

Something is very wrong with the way officiating has been this year. I do not know if it is because they are trying to spend the games up or something entirely different but there is a problem with it more than just guys missing calls.

NFL Officiating

blows. Every game there seems to be a call that ruins a game. Thankfully the Indy-Houston game didn’t have one of those, but a lot of games this season have had just pathetic calls. Pac-10 refs most likely.
