Hey Colts fans!

This is your friendly blogger on the Baltimore Ravens over at Baltimore Beatdown. Drop your questions below and I'll be back the rest of the week to trade the banter w/ you. Feel free to stop over at my site and leave your comments as well. You guys have a much larger following than us, but my guys are loyal, committed and know their football.

However, perhaps this just once, we can stay away from all that old stuff about where your team came from, our inability to move on, etc. That gnaws at me like an old girlfriend who never stops calling you, wanting her clothes, underwear and jewelry back now that she's dumped you and you keep telling her you don't know what she's talking about (what underwear?). I hate when that happens, so please, no whining. Deal?

What kind of role has Tom Zbikowski taken this season?

And why isn’t he returning punts? That was the best thing he did for the Irish last season.

by mgrex03 on Oct 9, 2008 9:52 AM EDT   0 recs

Your right about Z

He should be returning the Kicks..especially with the disappointing play of Figurs. Z is my kind of player but he also is similar to Jim Leonard who is taking away any return opps. Leonard is a great pick up from the Bills and now starts on D at safety. Z, at best would be sharing time with Leonard. Add Nakamura to mix and we have a bright future with regards to safeties and all purpose players. But, watch Leonard- he’s a play maker and savvy on D. He’s a heads up player and quickly becoming a fan favorite.

Zbi was a great pick

With his boxing skills, he is a big hitter, but probably not fast enough to be a punt returner in the NFL. I also like the Ravens 7th round draft pick, another safety, Haruki Nakamura, from Cincinnati. He is a national judo champion and together they will be a great pair in the d-backfield.

Have to ask about the Iowa alum

How is Marshall Yanda playing? Him and Ugoh where the only tackles from outside the first round to start from that draft. He’s at guard now right?

Yanda was moved...

…to right guard this year, which is his natural position. He was right tackle last season and did fine, but has that nasty streak in his personality better suited for the interior of the o-line. Our middle three o-linemen are very solid and the key reason of our resurgent running game.

Personnel Questions

Who do you think has had the biggest impact on the team who is new to the team this year? Also, what do you see out of Terrell Suggs performance wise? Is he playing as hard as he usually does or is he just waiting until his franchise tag runs out?

by Sanders_fan89 on Oct 9, 2008 11:25 AM EDT   0 recs

Who's hot

I have to say Jim Leonhard is a nice suprise coming over from Buffalo. He returns kicks, plays safety and special teams. All, very well. Nakamura can flat out hit in special teams and saftey slots…That crazy opening kickoff block he put on the Steeler on Monday night was not a fluke. He came straight across the wedge to blind side that guy knocking him out of the game and setting the tone for the first half. It was vicious. He gives his body up on hits. I have to say Leonhard though because he’s been getting the playing time. Suggs is not sulking and is very motivated. He is playing better than I expected. The whole team needs to get the sacks going but I’m happy with Suggs..always have been. He’s an easy target because we expect Reggie White but he get’s it done better than most. Our D stats are there.

Offensively,..

..I like the surprising success of Le’Ron McClain. He never really carried the ball, even back to his colllege days. He was a blocking fullback, but now routinely runs guys over to the tune of 4-5 yards a clip. Together when they put in their big package, with the 260 pound McClain behind the 255 pound fullback Lorenzo Neal, they scare the pants off of DB’s in their way.

Division Chances

What is the chance that the Ravens will be AFC North Champs?

by FWColts on Oct 9, 2008 12:08 PM EDT   0 recs

All depends on Steelers

The Steelers have our number in big games so if they play .600 ball they get the division. We won’t get a Wild Card spot so we need to win the division. I’d say, after our two exposing loses, that we have a 40% chance- not sure if that math adds up..Rothelsberger cancels out Flacco and Hines Ward tops Mason. Our running game is better but Pitt. always finds a way to run. They beat the Jags in Jacksonville with 3rd string back..that spoke volumes to me. At this point I’m not too optimistic. If we can manage 20 points a game we could take it.

by raven on Oct 9, 2008 1:34 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I originally thought...

….we had a chance, as much because of our early season success, as the Steelers hellacious schedule. However, after not being able to win the past two close games, while watching the Steelers do the exact opposite, tell me there’s still a big difference between us, more than the three points that they beat us by. However, it’s a long season and a lot can happen.

Joe Flacco

Joe Flacco took alot of criticism during the NFL for being a shotgun QB who could not play under center.

Has there been any problemswhen he does take snaps under center? Has he done anything that Flacco has shown to dispel this knock on him?

by metal_militia on Oct 9, 2008 12:52 PM EDT   0 recs

Under center

No. He can play under center just fine from what I’ve seen. His height gives him some advantages that close to the line. He has had succes with quick drop backs and slants to Mason/ Williams. He fires the ball from, seemingly, a pitchers mound down over the line. After watching tanglefoot Boller, Flacco looks smooth as silk under there. I don’t think this is an issue at all but I’ll watch for it. I think labels get thrown around because of a players physical appearance. He is tall and deliberate and might seem to have trouble in reverse but…

by raven on Oct 9, 2008 1:42 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Flacco has made the transition...

…but he has flubbed a couple of snaps under center. At the same time, Boller did that on a regular basis (see how no one in Baltimore misses Boller? Watch the Colts take him as a free agent next year, Manning gets injured and Boller leads them to the Super Bowl. I’ll be the one you see jumping off the Chesapeake Bay Bridge if so, but will probably have company!). Anyway, Flacco will continue to make rookie mistakes, but the Ravens made a great pick and it was just announced today he will be the starter the remainder of the season.

Flacco

is my favorite rookie this year. I love his presence in the pocket. He is very, very impressive.

Gonna be even more afraid of you guys next year!

More Flacco questions.

How is Flacco reading the defenses at the moment? I remember the other huge knock on him, was that he was waiting for his guy to get open, and he couldn’t go through his reads. Is that showing this year?

And how is your playbook “adjusting” to Flacco? Are you guys throwing the deep ball more often now, as Flacco has so superior arm strength, compared to the avg QB? Are you guys using the entire playbook or are you keeping it limited until he fully grasps the offense?

I look forward to the answers :)

Please excuse my grammar and sentence structure

Injury Report

Sports Center said that Lewis was questionable for tomorrow’s game. I seriously doubt that he will will miss this game, but do you know more about this? And would it affect his performance? Playing Time?

by MarkFive05 on Oct 11, 2008 8:45 AM EDT   0 recs

Ray Lewis=Injury Report

He is listed by the NFL as questionable, which is worse than probable yet better than doubtful. He had limited participation in practice but will definitely play. At 33, the ravens will probably limit him in practice and therefore be required to list him as such. Besides, I’ll take a one armed Ray Ray over any other MLB in football anyway. Be afraid, Colts fans, be very afraid. Lewis is having one of his best season of his CAREER this year and has been a vicious hard hitting beast so far!

but a starting corner, SS and the nickelback are out

and the RT is doubtful.

Which guys off the injury report do you think will be able to go?
