More of the Same
Because my first post seems to have stirred up the pot more than i thought it would, I've decided that for my next post I would write about the future Colts coaching situation. I know I won't be in such a large minority when it comes to this topic and I'm interested to hear others opionions. My strong feeling (reminder that this comes from an anti-Dungy guy) is that Jim Caldwel will bring more of the same to the Colts we all love. He'll keep on a lot of the same coaches and pretty much just be a continuation of the current regime. I am wholeheartedly opposed to the direction of the Colts right now and would love to see us go pluck an up-and-coming coordinator from a team. Thoughts?
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Stampede Blue's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Stampede Blue's writers or editors.

The report out there now
is that it’s written into Caldwell’s contract that he’ll be the head coach when Dungy retires. Nothing to debate here. It’s already been decided.

Thanks Shake.
It is what it is, there’s no point in debating it.
The anti-pot-stirrer (is that a word?) in me is grateful you’re a contributor to this blog.

Just looking for opinions of Caldwell. I was saying I would rather have had us look out of Indy for the replacement. Instead of criticizing me, just give me your opinions. Respond or don’t, no one is forcing you to even read this. I’m just looking for other Colt fans opinions.
Colts Rule. Pats suck.

I didn’t understand the move in the first place. I didn’t know jack about the guy until I found out he was going to be the next headcoach. I just read the profile him on the Colts website, here’s a link
http://www.colts.com/sub.cfm?page=coachbio&coach_id=19
Basically what is says is this:
Blah blah blah, Peyton put up sick numbers and he is the shit, blah blah blah, oh Caldwell was a coach or something, blah blah blah, peyton is awesome, blah blah blah, keyshawn johnson (I know right? who cares?) did stuff, blah blah blah, something about illinois.
Excuse me while I’m not sold on this guy.

wow
It’s gotta be tough to be a fan of a team when you’re “wholeheartedly opposed to the direction of [said team]”

I see it
what fan wants his team to win 5 straight division titles, set an NFL record for 12+ win seasons and be well positioned for a 7th straight playoff berth in 7 seasons under Dungy?

I think he has a legit point about this though. The thing that annoys me most about the Colts is their lack of variety in styles of play. Everyone knows how the Colts play. A little change to keep people on their toes would only benefit them in the long run.

if it ain't broke...

You would think if someone could just figure the Dungy Colts out it would have taken a lot less than 7 years and if they were figured out the Colts wouldn’t have just knocked off two division leaders to put themselves back into a great position for a wildcard spot.

The record
speaks for itself! The only way we could have done better would be to win a Superbowl each year!!I hope Caldwell comes in and does nothing! He doesnt need to!

Well, shake...
how much great coaching is required when you have Peyton Manning, Marvin Harrison, Reggie Wayne, Dallas Clark, Edge, Addai, Dom, Saturday, Freeney, Mathis, Brackett, and Sanders.
Its a system defense. You know that. It’s not like Dungy is bringing the holy grail of coaching to the Colts and its not like he’s changed the offense since he’s been here. My point would be this: Caldwell may very well be the best person for the job, but people aren’t exactly beating down his door to offer him coordinator jobs, let alone HC jobs, so why the rush to name him the next HC? I would have had little to no problem with Dungy retiring, the Colts interviewing people, and then deciding that Caldwell was the guy. To me this just seems like Dungy using leverage to get a guy he wanted as HC>

Yeah I read it the first time you posted it.
I would go off bragging about the Colts playoff record under Dungy btw. Everytime they are a huge favorite and landed a first round bye then fuck it up. Lets not even get into the blowout by the Jets in Dungy’s first year. :(

I want more of the same!
But I understand it when people don’t.
I think it’s because of the frustrating way the Colts play, our D always has trouble getting off the field, and our O has to play perfect.
Personally, more of the same sounds good to me, as long as P-money is at the helm.
Lord help us when he isn’t.

Agreed.
They didn’t get the nickname “The Cardiac Colts” without a reason.
I will personally go into mourning when Peyton retires. I don’t even want to think about it right now.

Should I stir up the pot more...
… and talk about who we’re going to draft to start grooming as Peyton’s replacement? a la Aaron Rodgers?
by LovinBlue on Nov 13, 2008 4:48 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
the Aaron Rodgers situation was ugly, but you can't say they went with the wrong QB
Rodgers leads Favre in DYAR, DVOA, QB rating and ANY/A. The grand slam of QB eval stats.

Right Now
I’m seeing a third or fourth round for him. If we could get him in one of those rounds, that would be the steal of the century. I love the way Harrell plays.

He is going to be great in the NFL. Now, if we could arrange Harrell AND Crabtree…..bwahahaha. That would be scary cool.

sound about right
and peyton has said he wants to play about 15 seasons, so it may be time to start thinking about it.. Would be great for any young QB or even more than one to be able to sit behind him for a year or two and learn.

The Thing About Caldwell Is
He is an offensive coach. I would rather have a defensive coach be replaced by a defensive coach, especially when we have a head coach-caliber defensive coordinator and a Dungy disciple in Minnesota that would be a good head coach.

I will admit that I'm not familiar with what Caldwell really does
Dungy and Meeks run the defense, Moore and Peyton call the plays, so I guess Caldwell is a offensive gameplanner and general overseer as the QB coach/associate head coach. If that’s right, he’s groomed to be the Indy head coach better than anyone (has more head coach-like responsibilities), but I don’t know what exactly he does.

Not knowing what he does
is troubling. Or is it just me? That said, I have a tiny, itty, bitty feeling that Polian and Irsay know what they’re doing.

you can somehow doubt Dungy
“he had all this talent handed to him and any coach could have won with that team” Which is ridiculous, but not disprovable.
Polian on the other hand. He pretty clearly knows what he’s doing and is a giant part of the Colts success.
Irsay hired Polian and Dungy, so he’s seems to know how be be a great owner (hire great personnel people, and a great coach then back off).

Where's the defense?
I feel like the old Wendy’s commercial ’where’s the beef?‘, but I still don’t see much of a defense in Indy year after year. I have to hold Dungy responsible for this. His philosophy isn’t working and Peyton bails them out year after year, except for the superbowl run which was just a few games.
