Next week against Houston should be a win. San Diego we should beat. Then Cleveland, Cincy, Detroit, 3 more wins.

At Jacksonville could be tough, and Tennessee might be resting people. Provided we don’t fall apart, Wild Card here we come!

I take back

the negative comment I made about Freeney last week. His sack on that final drive was the final nail in the coffin.

defense holds at the end

And notches the colts first score in pittsburgh since the sixties… Nice after how they went on about it all week.. This was also the first loss to an AFC team by pittsburgh. Let’s hope houston at home next week is a bit less of a nail biter… Would be nice to have another game more like playing the ravens..

It's easy to be gracious in a win...

… but I noticed about half-way through the game that Hines Ward always seems to be smiling and just enjoying the game. Nice to see for a change.

I'm a little concerned still

The offense doesn’t seem like itself. The defense is as bad as its ever been. I hope they feed off of the win over the Steelers and play like we’ve been used to in previous years.

I looked up some stuff today because the defense has been driving me nuts. The Colts have punted more than our opponent in every game played this year. Every QB that we’ve faced with the exception of Tavaris Jackson has had a great day.
                     their our their their
opp. punts punts att/comp %comp
pitt 3 6 30/42 .714
ne 1 3 26/35 .742
ten 2 3 24/37 .648
gb 2 4 21/28 .750
bal 5 6 28/38 .737
hou 2 3 21/33 .636
jax 1 3 16/22 .727
min 6 7 14/24 .583
chi 2 2 13/21 .619

Maybe its my disdain for zone coverage, but I often wonder how many Super Bowls we could have won if we just ran a normal defense or even used man coverage once in a while.

formatting is a little off

first number is opponent punts
2nd our punts,
3rd their passing completions/attempts
last is opponents completion %

Good days for QB's are!

Usually I base whether the QB had a great day or not depending on TD’s/INTS, I mean shit tonight Peyton had a horrible completion percentage, but 3 TD’s and 0 picks, where is Big Ben had 0 Td’s and 3 picks…that was the big difference in this one.

I swear on days when Manning scores and doesn’t turn the ball over, we’re hard to beat, for anyone. No matter how bad any other part of the team is doing, if he can score, and not turnover, we are right there, the other stuff just sets us over the top. Now personally I want us to go out there and play good as a whole team of course, but this year it’s seemed to be the big difference is Peyton. As well I think this was our 2nd best played game overall.

Oh yeah? Try this on for size:
M. Moore: 24 attempts, 57 yds, 2.4 average

This is against a “run first, pound you into the ground super-serial physical football team.” I’ll take that any day of the week, kthnxbai.

We held the Titans to 2.8 yards per carry, the Packers to 3.3. How’d that work out for us?

Jacksonville had 4.9 yards per carry and still had .727 completion percentange, the Bears had 4.7 and .619 completion percentage.

I think my point is pretty simple. If we can’t get our defense off the field, we are most likely going to lose. I didn’t include turnovers before, so I combined them with punts so we can see how many drives we stopped versus how many of our drives were stopped. As it turns out, we are most likely to lose if we have more punts and turnovers than our opponent. Go Figure.

I put the passing completion data in because I think that is the flaw in the defense. Any team that can complete around 70 percent passes on you, isn’t going to punt very often. I personally don’t feel comfortable praying for an interception or fumble, so we have a shot at winning a game. Since you brought up rushing, I’ve added those numbers, too.

Since whitespace appears to be removed when posting, this might be hard to read.

This season...

is the first in a long while that we don’t have any real gimme games… Houston is NOT a gimme, or any one else after. it is just one week at a time, and this week I hope we play a Texans team much better than we did last time.

Go Colts!

by Marked Hoosier on Nov 10, 2008 1:55 AM EST reply actions

Im with you….one game at a time. no game is a gimme. you would think after minnehaha and houston…the gimme talk would end. but I like how this team is looking right now. even though it wasnt pretty we beat new england and we handed baltimore their lunch as well as what I thought was a pretty darn good game vs pitt at their place and where its been 40 years since our last win.

we are starting to build momentum and our wins against the three in the wildcard hunt will be huge. that was the season right there. that win was absolutely necessary.

Still waiting for the real Marvin Harrison and Joe Addai to stand up, but it’s hard to be too critical after a really tough win like that. Just going to enjoy it for a bit I think.
