According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the Colts are the just third team in NFL history to win five consecutive games each by six points or fewer.
Cardiac Colts, indeed.

I can't take it much longer.
I swear. I just can’t. I will start self-medicating if this continues much longer. Better living through pharmaceuticals, I suppose.
The sad thing is that I can’t turn away. Its like a car accident. And the knowledge that I just watched my last Colts game this season if we don’t get into the playoffs is just depressing.
I’ll stop whining now.

Average
I think that stat disproves the “average” talk from previous posts. I think the definition of an average team is one that would end up dropping half of those close games.
That's a good point.

I'd be more inclined to call it luck.

even the stat masters at FO
measure and give sway to “Close and late” DVOA. Not so much because of “clutch performance” as much as that the game is played differently at the end of tight games. Passing effectively is hugely important for a trailing team and running effectively for a leading team. The opposites for the defenses are needed and coaching comes into play as well.
They also say that blowouts are better evidence that a team is good than lots of close wins. So it’s not all smiles and puppies from them on the Colts.

Luck
A lot goes into winning football games, and while I admit that luck can play a role in a W, its still hard for me to believe that the Colts win 5 close games in a row merely by luck, and not talent or skill.
You could be right
Most of my statistical theory comes from baseball which is way more luck based than football. However, it is proven that close games are essentially random and I’m assuming that this is true in football as well, just probably not to the same extent. Just don’t fall into the media telling you the Colts have some magical quality in close games. Its probably just that Peyton Manning is really, really good.

my thoughts on luck
it goes both way. Maybe it was bad luck that we were in those situations to begin with
Let's go Colts!
I would really appreicate it if Andre Johnson+Morlan Greenwood when for less than 12 points
for playoff positioning in one league. I’m in fifth right now and the 4th place guy is down 12 with those guys to go. The league is 10 teams and only takes 4 in the playoffs.

The best part of these wins
have been going to the other boards and seeing the fans of the opposing teams complain about how their teams blew the chance to beat us. I would love to see us beat every team by 28 points, but seeing other fans have their hopes and dreams crushed in the final minutes is pretty fun.
And on that note, please don’t let the football Gods lose in the final minutes of any game the rest of the regular or post season. Or lose at all, really.
