Clint Session
If anyone else records Colts' games, load up the Bengals game and watch the Colts defense for the first three quarters.
I was a big Clint Session detractor in the first and second quarters of the season. I would have taken a gimpy Rob Morris over him; I felt he was a big reason the run defense sucked.
Fast forward to now... I didn't tape the Clowns game, because it was teh gay and it made me want to stab my eyes, and my 3 year old deleted the chargers NFL Replay, but watching the Bengals game, I've never seen a LB read his keys and react so quickly. There were plays where he read the TE and was darting into the backfield before the RB had the ball. He was quick on handoffs, draws, screens, and I even saw him cover the TE in man coverage and defend a pass. I said this in Phil B's rats blog, so if you read that, sorry for the double coverage, but Im just zomg impressed with the light year leaps this kid has taken. I would almost be tempted to buy his jersey if I didn't know that in 2011, after his rookie contract is up, he'll be wearing a Titans or Jaguars jersey and some 2nd year LBer will be taking his spot.
I've been giving a lot of credit to Antonio Johnson (and rightly so, imo) for the improvement in the defense, but much like 2006 when Rob Morris replaced 'The Swinging Gate' at SAM, a marked improvement at the strong side linebacker position has really helped key this turn around.
One caveat. I don't know if he's just cheating a lot and getting lucky, I assume not, because he was never really caught out of position on draws or play action, but I'm assuming that people might try to take advantage of his aggressiveness by running PA off of draw looks, having the TE block-slip into a route and hit him in the hole behind Session. If that happens, forget all the praise I've heaped on him, he's a bum, bring back Gardner, etc...

Thats an odd thing to scream, but
You’re right… my mistake. Sorry, Clint, don’t hit me :)
No doubt
Session looks like he gets better every week. I’ve said it on here before, but Polian’s comment after the draft a couple of years ago was that he had “a real conviction” about Session. When I heard that, I knew he was going to be a special player.
I, like BBS, felt like Session was playing out of position at SAM, and that he would fit much better at WILL. He sure is making a fool out of me. Having Freddy KO and Session on the field at the same time has been awfully nice.

Hey I would have to agree…when he made his first start against the Chargers a year ago I was concerned BUT he played really well!!! As for this year…HE HAS been the main reason hagler will not be a Colt next year. And you are right, when he knows what’s going on he is there before the play can develop. I would have to say that either he is REALLY lucky or his is REALLY into his film study and reading his keys…because the one thing he does do is play FAST…and hits like a train…Ok guys what about Kehieo, any thoughts on his play and his future as a Colt???

Well, my opinion almost always differs from the FO when it comes to LBs, but I think Keiaho would almost have to be in their long term plans. He’s probably a little quicker than June, I think he’s more decisive, and definitely much more physical than June. He’s probably slightly worse in pass coverage than June, but I don’t think he’s a liability vs the pass as June was sometimes vs the run. I would say that right now Brackett is still the best overall LB, but I think the other two have a bigger upside. (Still love you, Gary :p)
He's 7th in the league
In tackles for loss. He’s got 7. Not a glamour stat but in games it’s as good as a sack. This post is spot on, he’s gotten really, REALLY good at making his reads and shooting the gap early. He’s a prototypical Colts backer; he’s not a Merriman, he’s quick and smart. He and Keiaho both have a habit of sneaking into the backfield and shutting down the run, especially on off-tackle runs. On the flipside, he also has a nasty habit of missing tackles, but he’s gotten worlds better at that since the beginning of the season.
yeah, I dogged him out early in the year, I suck.
I still think would be an excellent WILL, but, he has become a pretty good SAM. His improved play and the addition of AJ at DT has been a key to a revitalized defense and the current winning streak.
It sets the stage for a nice playoff run.

Ha!
I knew all you haters would come around soon enough. The kid is good. I started really liking him last year during the Chargers regular season game.
great quote from session
On the IndyStar article about redzone defense:
“It’s a question of your manhood: ‘Are you too tired? Are you going to give in?’ " linebacker Clint Session said. "We’ve got no guys on our defense like that.”
