some thoughts from the weekend
I haven't seen a lot of full Giants games this season but I thought whilst watching last nights game that Plaxico Burress might actually have been dumb enough to cost the G men another championship game purely through his own stupidity. I know the Giants didn't have Jacobs, but they've still got 2 quality backs and they couldn't establish a running game worth shit last night. Is the fact that they've lost a receiver who pretty much demanded double coverage of more importance to their running game than Jacobs? Without Plax, teams can play 8 up in the box and concentrate on stopping the run without fear of being burned by the Giants receivers now, and guys like tumor and smith ain't getting open so easily.
From a colts point of view, could that steelers last minute TD come back to haunt us in January. I know we still need to concentrate on actually making the post season and there are a lot of what iffs here, but if the steelers can seal home field advantage by winning out, that could mean we end up having to go back to Heinz Field if everything goes to plan for us. Odds of going there twice and winning twice in the same season? I'm sure dicks like Peter King would say imposible but as long as we've got Peyton under centre impossible is nothing. (that's a little more dramatic than i was aiming for, but wtf, i'll go with it)

Not worried
Worry about getting there first before you fret about the Steelers. no matter what, I get the sense the Colts will have to go there and beat them again. The road to the Super Bowl is never easy, man. But don’t think about that crap just now. Let’s get in first.

Odds of going there twice and winning twice in the same season?
Way higher (twice as likely in fact) when it’s already happened the first time.
Shonn Greene for Heisman
Doak Walker award winner
144 yards per game
6.2 yards per carry
08 TDs per game > 06 GPA
Definitely more likely
Odds of winning at Pittsburgh = 0.25 (I’m guessing)
Event A: Win at Pittsburgh first time
Event B: Win at Pittsburgh second time
At beginning of the season probability of A and B, P(A & B) = 0.25 * 0.25 = 0.0625
After first game, we know the outcome (Win), so P(A) = 1, and P(A & B) = P(1 & B) = P(B) = 0.25
If outcome of Event A was 0, then P(A & B) = P(0 & B) = 0
It’s infinitely more likely, as 0.25 / 0 is infinite. After you have the first win, it is 1/P(A) times more likely than before the first win. So if it is a 50% chance of winning, it is twice as likely. In this example, it is 4 times as likely.
yeah
thanks, I did that equation also after shake’s reply. I really seem to have pissed off the math club with this statement. (not my intention, LOL!) I suppose what I was trying to say is when you haven’t gone to a place and won in 40 years, is it too much to hope for to do that twice in one season, in terms of pure math, obviously no as mgrex has demonstrated beautifully. Anyway, as everyone is preaching, one game at a time.

I'll worry about the playoff schedule when its something to worry about.
Re: Giants…I think you’re right. No need to double cover anyone (although, Hixon was getting some double coverage last night). The other problem is that when they start Ward, they run him up the middle – he is NOT Jacobs! It doesn’t matter how well the line is blocking for Jacobs – he seems to make his own holes sometimes. I think they should start and use Bradshaw more if they don’t have Jacobs. Bradshaw is fast and runs well to the outside.
It was a horrible game by the Giants. Just horrible. There pass blocking was the WORST. Poor Eli, I’m sure he’s a little sore this afternoon!
"I throw, you catch. It's NOT that hard!"

Just like 2006....
If the playoff picture remains the same, we’ll have an away game against Denver, then an away game against Tennessee. Baltimore would have away games at NYJ and Pittsburgh. I can easily see Baltimore being highly motivated against Pittsburgh BECAUSE of the last second call that pretty much robbed them of the division. If we do our part, and the Ravens remain highly motivated, we could be looking at another situation where the AFC Championship Game comes back home. I know it’s high hopes now, but anything can happen. We just have to get our part done.
Correct Me If I'm Wrong
Currently, Tennessee has the #1 seed. That would match them up with Baltimore (assuming Baltimore is #6 and they win Round 1). Assuming we win our first round game, we’d be matched up against Pittsburgh. So in order to avoid Pittsburgh (at least until AFCCG), we need them to have the #1 seed. So…Go Steelers this weekend and next.
In reality, this is all irrelevant. We just take care of business one game at a time and worry about everything else as it comes about.

According to CBS Sportsline
My link apparently didn't post
Here’s the URL anyway: http://www.sportsline.com/nfl/standings/playoffrace/bracket
Yes, but...
I thought there were no real brackets in the NFL playoffs b/c the lowest seeded team (#1) gets to play the highest seeded team (#6) of the remaining teams after the Wild Card weekend.

I'm confused
I always thought that the #1 seed and #6 seed couldn’t play each other in the divisional round. So if the Ravens do get the 6th seed and beat the 3rd seed in the wild card round, then they would play the #2 seed in the divisional, not the # 1 seed. It’s just like last year for the Giants; they were the 5th seed and beat the Bucs who were the 4th seed. From there the Giants (#5 seed) had to play the Cowboys(#1 seed) since the winner of the wild card game between the #3 and #6 can’t play the #1 seed, right?
I believe that's correct
Which is why, unfortunately for Colts fans, the Titans need to win against Pittsburgh in order for us to potentially play them in the Divisional Round instead of Pittsburgh. Provided we win out and don’t lose playoff position
Colts-Steelers 2005 playoffs (played in Jan 2006)
The Steelers were the #6 seed and had beaten #3 Cincinnati the week prior. I believe we had the #1 seed that year.

Good point
I was thinking about that as well. If that’s still the case, then i will definitely root against the Titans this Sunday. Not sure why CBS would have it differently. We’ll just wait and see
It's Possible...
According to Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NFL_playoffs
Teams are “re-seeded” after the Wild Card games. The #1 seed gets to play the worst (based on seeding) team remaining in the playoff field.
If it gets to that point, I’d rather play in Tennessee than in Pittsburgh in the middle of January. Go Steelers.
