IF Colts win Thursday...Rest Starters against Titans?
Here's an article that briefly explains what Dungy will do IF the Colts win on Thursday...quoted by Dungy
“That’s going to be our focus to the players. We win this game, that will put us at the [No.] 5 spot. And nothing the following week could [change]. We can’t get to 4 and we couldn’t drop to 6.
“So if that happens, then we’ll play [the Tennessee game] like we’ve played all those games in that situation,” he said. “We’ll rest the guys [against the Titans] that need rest and we’ll play the guys that need to play. If we don’t win this week, then next week becomes a must-win and that’s how we’ll approach it. So we’re looking at [the Jacksonville game] as being like a playoff game for us, getting ourselves in.”
Now after hearing this, I am a little disapointed that the Colts will not play the Titans (if Colts win Thursday) with their full potential arsenal...thus giving the Titans a shot at winning the number 1 seed. Not sure if that would help the Colts or not...still disapointing though. Everyones thoughts?

No.No.No.No.
I hate when he rests everyone in week 17. I think we could use the momentum that will come with a win for the playoffs.
It may be a moot point. This short week + playing on the road is going to be a killer.

Agree with peytonsthebest
And I’ve been saying this all year – please please please do not rest people who are still in ok shape to play. There will be 10 days between Jacksonville and Tenneessee, so those who aren’t injured should be rested enough to play and keep sharp. UGH!

How's that strategy worked for the Colts in the past?

Uhm, I wasn’t trying to get Tony to be like Herm. I just think you play to win the game.:(
Also, the Giants played to win the game last year vs the Patriots and suffered injuries to their OL and maybe other positions… I don’t think they regretted it. Every time this team has played the season out, they’ve done well in the post season.

If the Colts rest any players,
I will personally hunt down the coaching staff. That Tennessee game last year made me sick to my stomach. And now, of course, we have the Titan trolls claiming it as one of their victories over us. Consider that the New York Giants played to win against the Patriots in the final game of the season last year. Even though they lost the game and three players with it, look how it turned out. Keep them sharp!!!!!!!

Please
I can see resting some injured players or injury-prone players, but keep Peyton, Reggie, Marvin, Freeney, Mathis, Hayden, and all of those guys in the game. Kick their asses. I can’t stand the Titans, and we can’t give them a win. We need experience for Mookie and Pollak and Bullitt and all of those guys.

let's worry about winning on Thursday night first...
you know the jagoffs would like nothing better than to try and spoil or postseason, or to make it more difficult on us.

I hate resting guys, but I think it'll work this time
Coach Dungy said that he’ll rest injured players and select starters in a article yesterday in Indy Star. Do we really want Bob, Freeney, Mathis, Hayden, Addai, Marv, and the others playing the entire Titans game if we beat Jax? No, we need to rest those guys for the game against Denver or whoever gets the 4th seed in the playoffs. I would prefer if the starters played the entire first half or at least a quarter and half against Tenn if we get the win against Jax, not just a few series.

The one thing different this year from the rest (besides the SB year)
is we don’t have a bye week. That could factor into this decision.

I wish
we never get another bye week again since it never works for us because we always rest guys the last week even though we get the bye week. It’s like we lose momentum and become a little cocky when we have the bye week which always seems to backfire.

I will be at the game...
…so of course play the starters! I would be OK with only seeing a half of Jim “I can’t throw the ball 20 yards” Sorgi.
IF we win this Thursday night, it should be a nice “relaxing” week for the guys who need it. The break over the weekend might be a long enough break for the players who need it.
I would much rather play in Nashville over Pittsburgh, but we won’t be able to control that by beating or losing to the Titans. The winner of the Tennessee/Pittsburgh game this Sunday is locked into the #1 seed.

i hope we arent solidifed as the 5th seed heading into the final game
not sure that is possible if we beat jax… but resting guys in week 17 makes me cringe… they have had enough rest!

This is a different situation than that of the past
In this scenario there is no first-round bye. So if we rest some people who need it, it’s not like they aren’t playing in a game for nearly 3 weeks. I think that long of a rest is a detriment. But perhaps rest for some banged up guys wouldn’t be bad here, considering it’s slightly less than 2 weeks rest.
I am neither for or against this. But I am against resting players the week before a bye. It’s just too long to go without playing and expecting a sharp game. Personally though, I hope they play everyone that is healthy enough to play.

I don't remember
did we rest guys in week 17 of the SB year? We had no first round bye that year. I am getting old, I honestly can’t remember.

no we didn't
As was pointed out earlier, they had to beat miami to get the #3 seed, so they did (and it mattered).

Right on, yellowsnow.
While I hope we only rest those who desperately need it, this is a different scenario than the times where we rested starters at least on week, maybe two, then followed that with a bye week.
Our 13-0 season? Lost to San Diego, then most starters took a month off. Ridiculous. This isn’t exactly the same without a bye week at all.

maybe someone will talk some sense into Dungy
We CANNOT rest perfectly healthy players. It’s one of the dumbest things you can do in the NFL. It makes no sense at all.

I don't think Dungy's going to rest
all the starters, just injured players and certain starters. It’s all here in this article from the Indy Star.

Not only
would I not be surprised if the Colts beat a healthy Titans team. I expect it. We would have won last time if not for all the injury stuff, especially Peyton. Flukes happen sometimes, the first few games of this season, for the Colts, were a fluke. Go horse!

Before I worry much about resting anyone,
I hope we can handle the spotted kitties this week. Don’t forget that we could still very well miss the playoffs this season. Let’s lock things up this Thursday.

Absolutely not
What’s the main reason the Titans D is really good? Haynesworth and KVB. Even though KVB’s been hurt this year. Now Peyton can at least get 3 good quarters basically studying how the Titans can be exploited. Why would you pass that up? If Pitt wins this week, the Titans HAVE to play their first stringers to try to reclaim the #1 seed. Anyone in their right mind would rather have the 1 seed of the 2 seed so we’re not going to see their scrubs. So take the free looks at a neutered defense, find out where there’s shakiness in their coverage and then pack it in in the 4th quarter. Not saying we have to win, in fact I’d rather go 11-5 and improve our draft position but you can’t pass this up. Get some of the rust off the players that were injured. Hopefully Brackett plays and we can get him some time.
