Peyton, Dwight, Reggie, and Robert Pro Bowl bound

Predictably, the Pro Bowl cretins that decide this farce of an NFL "All-Star" game picked Antonio friggin Gates over Dallas Clark, even though Clark has better numbers and plays on a team that's relevant. But at least they got Peyton Manning, Reggie Wayne, Dwight Freeney, and Robert Mathis right. Four Pro Bowlers for a team that didn't win their division is pretty good.

That said, despite the Gates selection, the Pro Bowl did a fairly decent job this year. Nice to see Drew Brees, Mario Williams, and the 85-year-old John Carney get some Pro Bowl love. Remember, Carney was just supposed to be a fill-in for Lawrence Tynes. He was retired, and enjoying life after football. Tynes got hurt. NY called Carney. He said yes. Now, he's a Pro Bowler. Go fig!

Stoked.

I am stoked that Peyton is the starter (over Favre) and that Mathis got some love. His play has deserved it!

I am also very pleased about Carney. What a story. Maybe the G Men should just keep him and release Tynes…

And two noticeable absences...

TONY ROMO. PHILLIP RIVERS.

Hmmm, ’magine that!

Rivers is the only reason that team’s won any games at all. The D has quit on their coach.

Surprised Romo didn’t make it, given his jersey’s the most popular merch in the NFL. Hopefully Warner pulls out to rest his athritis and Eli can start in the Pro Bowl, so we can have MANNING BOWL PT. II.

If Peyton and Eli face each other in the Pro Bowl...

it should be MANNING BOWL PT. III ;)

It's a bird, it's a plane... no it's Supermathis!!!

Yes, that would be correct.

Because the Colts would have just beaten the Giants in the Superbowl… :D

I bet they are crying in Dallas right now!

Exactly.

I wonder if Terry will make an appearance?

Romo easily deserved it more than Eli

He clearly had better numbers and won as many games. The SB win argument is a joke because last years performance should have absolutely no bearing on this year.

And for all of you who will use the missing 3 games argument, Romo made it in 2006 missing 6 games, so that argument doesn’t fly either.

Bottom line is that Romo got snubbed because voters were influenced by last years playoff performance by Eli, which is wrong.

Oh hey Terry! Where ya been buuuuuuuddy?

by KingRichard on Dec 17, 2008 9:20 AM EST up reply actions

it was even worse with him making it last year

and how has Romo won as many games when the Giants have a better record and Eli has been the QB all year?

but I'm not even going to argue Eli-Romo because it's pointless

neither should have made it. Matt Ryan (who I hated on from pre-draft up until a few weeks ago) deserves it more than either.

no way Ryan deserves it

he played ok for a rookie, but no way he played better than Romo or even Eli for that matter.

Thats like saying Flacco should have made it over P Manning.

Ryan has the same yards per attempt as Romo

more yards, less picks, and is the top QB in the league by DVOA

Peyton vs Flacco is an awful comparison Flacco isn’t better in a single category. Yards, YPA, INTs, TDs, Rating, DYAR, DVOA, comp%. Ryan is comparable in most and better in some to Romo.

This a quote of Terry’s over at the Cowboys blog:

Romo’s snub will be the motivation to lead us to the SB this year. He knows he should have made it and will play with a chip on his shoulder and prove to everyone how they were wrong over the next several weeks.

lol Oh, ok. hahaha

by KingRichard on Dec 17, 2008 9:32 AM EST up reply actions

so your argument is

Romo has played in 11 games, Eli in 14 and they’ve both lost 2 so Romo is better. What is going on in that head for that to make sense?

and his numbers are much better

you’re a stat guy shake, why are you ignoring the fact that Romo has put up much better numbers?

just pointing out that part of your argument made zero sense.

Romo is ahead of Eli in FO’s total value stat DYAR even with the games missed, but to go with that you have to accept that Matt Ryan has been better than either of them.

actually i live in dallas

and they dont seem to really care… i think they care a little more about winning their final 2 games than the stupid pro bowl

kind of funny

Does anyone else not give a crap about the Pro Bowl? If the Colts players are going to sit out any game, it should be this one.

by KingRichard on Dec 17, 2008 8:16 AM EST reply actions

Nobody gives a crap about it

But there are certain bonuses written into many player contracts for appearances in it, or at least selection for it, so it does matter to some extent.
