Buster Davis benched. (or ?)

I don't read the live game threads, but I noticed in the 4th quarter (might have happened sooner, will update after i watch the game again, although it will be painful, and I don't have nearly enough booze in the house to watch the defensive side) that the Colts were under the Post-Gary Bracket weight limit of 4.2 metric tonnes.  Then I noticed that Keiaho had moved to MIKE, Hagler was at WIL and Session (hold the S) was at SAM.   So apparenly the coaching staff didn't want to wait 2 more games before pulling Gilbert Gardner's really REALLY *REALLY* fat younger brother off the field.

I actually don't know if this was a performance issue or if they did it because Hagler can't possibly be any slower than Davis and speed would help against the shotgun, draw, shotgun, draw, 5 yard out, shotgun draw, defense.

Did anyone notice if he got injured?  Otherwise, I'll check to see if this was a 2nd half adjustment.

Hagler, Keiaho, Session was what we expected when Brackett went down

I noticed Hagler in there late because he was the first one to hit MJD and actually brought him down on one play.

I may be wrong, but I thought I saw Senn in once late too. I’m sure the TOP was ugly so they needed the subs, but Buster hasn’t done anything that makes me think he’s a better option than Hagler.

I don’t know if they were subbing or not, but I definitely did not see fat ass in there at all in the 4th quarter. I’m thinking its a more permanent subbing.

I kind of hope he's benched

they are probably better off with Hagler in and Keiaho at Mike.

They gave Buster his audition for next year now it’s time to bring back the better guy even if he’s not going to be back next year.

Davis

He gave up on that touchdown run by the Jags (I think it was on richardsons td), my guess is he was benched after that. He seemed lost out there, slow to react got caught in traffic way way to often.

IMO good move to get him out of there.

Yah, I don’t tihnk he’s done much by any means. I’m surprised at the swiftness of it, it took what, 12 games to remove gardner? I don’t think Davis is ALL that illed the Colts tonight (why can they not tackle the jaguars? WRAP THE (*&% UP) but he wasn’t helping anything. He’s piss poor in coverage and ain’t exactly great against the run.

Davis

I noticed the benching as well. last week I mentioned that even though he was a hard hitting LB that he was too big and slow. Some defended Davis and liked the move but I just felt the guy couldn’t move…lets call it what it is he is to BIG and slow to play the position. I mean WHERE WAS HE??!?!? I never saw him make a PLAY…He’s the MLB for goodness sake!!!! Something had to be done, and this guy may have ate his way out of the NFL…no matter how hard a hitter he is he is just two slow for the position. And what made matter worse, HE WAS GETTING IN THE WAY OF HIS TEAMMATES!!!!!!! I mean he was lumbering around everywhere!!!!!! This game was TAYLOR made for a guy like him….hell the Jags don’t run wide!!! They run right at you!!! If he cannot make plays with teams running RIGHT AT HIM there is no way he can play MLB on THIS team at his size and weight!!!!

Davis sucks

Plain and simple. We need Brackett back for the playoffs. Davis is just bad. I’d like to see Wheeler play some MIKE against the Titans.

Yah

I don’t know why Wheeler hasn’t gotten more PT. The young DEs they drafted, too. The big problem last year was Mathis and Freeney being hurt. The Colts definitely need to get some additional pass rushers developed (but not too developed so that they leave in 2 years for a $50 MM contract to be a 3rd down player for the raiders)

Wheeler

I think he is destined to play the SAM, with either FO or Clint moving inside. Wheeler I don’t think has the coverage skills (ie the backpedal) to play MLB.

Also the last few games we have seen alot more of Howard and Johnson at the DE position.

Clint moving

I AGREE 100 percent…I think Session will move inside…if you recall he got his first start I think inside, Against the chargers when Bracket went down…had an INT and played really really good. But I do think that he is destined to move inside. I am beginning to wonder about wheeler tho. I still have the draft book and here are some of the things they said about him…..

He projects best as a WIL backer in the NFL, but his lack of coverage skills probably means he can not play in a Cover 2 type defense. Still, a player of Wheeler’s production and overall athleticism should have a role in the NFL.

Other reports that he struggles with play fakes and in college had trouble shedding blockers…so i think everyone that has expressed concerns about him not playing are valid. I don’t think he is ready, and MAYBE just MAYBE he was a reach at 3 to play the LB in the cover 2..time will tell, but it is might strange he hasn’t played much, being such a high pick…

BBS made a great comment

When Davis got benched the D started to play better.

I remember on play in particular, it was either a swing pass or a screen to MJD. Hagler came all the way over thru the blockers and actually tackled him after only 4-5 yards, BTW if hagler doesn’t make that tackle MJD has a blocker in front and about a 12-17 yard gain.

From what I saw it always looked as though Davis took step back first (as if he was overplaying the pass), which is stupid against a run first team in the jags. He hit the wrong gaps, got lost in traffic and really just looked a step slow (or three) and he never hit anyone with any authority. I give you that touchdown (it was by owens) that I mentioned above, he just gave up on the play. GAVE UP! to me there was “never doubt” that Davis would suck.
