Ongoing Situation (not problem)...Resting Players This Week

Im not saying I'm "pro" resting the starters, but you can't compare this year to the years of 2005 and 2007.  I would say its more like 2004 when the Colts rested players that last game (Manning could have thrown more than 49 TDs that year if it wasn't for that last games rest)...that year they killed the Broncos 49-24 in the first round, but lost to a better team in the Patriots the following week.  So the beat down on the Broncos showed that they can come off and beat their opponent that first playoff game on the scenario of resting players the last game of the regular season.  In 2005, the Colts rested players weeks 16, 17, and then their playoff bye (so essentially 3-4 weeks).  Last year they rested players week 17 and then their playoff bye, however this year, they do not have a playoff bye and so the layoff period is shorter (essentially just a bye week).  Again, I rather see the starters play the whole game, but it is not essential to see Bob Sanders or our RBs play the entire game and risk injury.  I say rest the players who need the rest, but at the same time play most of the starters the entire game.  It is important to keep that rythm going on offense, but also lets keep

I think...

Anyone that has been out or bruised up the last few weeks will be resting. And I expect the starters will play the first half and the second half will be backups.

Sitting Down with Dungy - Colts.com

Q: You clinched playoff positioning before the end of the season in years past – 2004, 2005 and 2007. Is this year any different in any way?

A: “It’s a little different theory, because in 2004, we were coming back and playing back-to-back weekends, so it’s more like ’04 than any other time. In ’05 and ’07, it was a little different, because you were going to have another week off – sort of what Tennessee is facing. In ’04, we had a good idea we were going to play Denver, then come back and play them again the very next week. This one, we know we’re going to play in a week. We won’t have a week off. You have to rest up your guys that need to rest, and take care of the injured guys. That’s No. 1.”

Dom

I read somewhere that Rhodes would also probably sit this game. I’d like Manning to get some work in with his receivers and then call it a day. As has been stated before, we don’t have a playoff bye, so this rest is different than in years past.
