It's a great day

to be living in Texas.  The Cowboys get whipped when all they need is one win to make the playoffs.  The last game in their famous stadium and they laid down and played pitiful.  If it had been the Lions instead of the Eagles, the Lions would probably not be the first  0-16 team.

We need to revisit some of the preseason posts regarding the season.  I know the Cowboys were the sexy pick by the media.  I'm surprised the Titans had such a good year, and congratulate them for that.  However, I had said all year that the Jags would fall on their face and finish below the Texans in the standings.  The Panthers also surprised me...

Just curious, is Romo still going to win more rings than Peyton?

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Stampede Blue's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Stampede Blue's writers or editors.

I guess the Cowboys troll extraordinaire will vanish until the Colts lose or until next offseason if we win a title.

I also wish I had time and motivation to blog at Speed Blue Nation

I couldn't find him on the Boys' site.

Everybody over there is calling for Romo’s head. It’s pretty ugly.

It's definitely a great day

Patriots miss the playoffs and the Cowboys collapse. It’s awesome.

I feel bad for Romo

He’s gonna take the fall for this and according to reports he’s on the verge of death. yea, Its Romo’s fault. Not the corpse on the sideline, the freak in the owner’s box, the OLine that blows, the … whatever the hell you want to call TO. A pretty piss poor O-coordinator that seemed to be more in love with looking smart as opposed to, ‘hey, they are blitzing 11, we need to run 5 routes instead of blockign!!!!!!!!’

I think Tony Romo is overrated, but thats not HIS fault, thats the media’s fault.

nice point about the media and Romo

Definitely a two-edged sword. They love to build certain players up, placing them on impossible pedestals, and then take great pleasure in reporting on their demise when they turn out to be human. A QB is responsible for a lot on the field, but not for the performance, or lack thereof, of coaches or for the rest of his team.

Keep the faith!

I have a place in my heart for Romo because

of the way Manning was treated. Manning is a better quarterback, but he was built up by ESPN (mostly them, but others, too, in the early 2000s) only to tear him down as fast as possible when they lost to better teams in the play offs. Its worse now with the MUST HAVE IT NOW MEDIA. Every quarterback, including champion of the 2 yard dumpoff 65 yards after the catch guy, needs a great team around him to win a championship. I like Romo, he seems like a good guy. Maybe they will cut him and some team that I don’t find personally offensive (Theres very few teams that fit this category) and he’ll win a championship there.

Underdog

It’s the same reason why everyone keeps saying Brady is leaps and bounds better than Manning. It’s basic psychology, people inherently root for the guy that isn’t given a chance to outperform the guy that it’s expected from. You think there’d be any argument at all if Brady was the 1st round pick and Manning was the 6th? Same thing happened with Romo. They were going through so many QBs then decided on Bledsoe because he was supposed to be the first round pick and was supposed to be the savior. When he wasn’t playing well (and that team wasn’t nearly as talented as it is now) Romo the unsung “hero” that nobody knew about came in and everyone loved him because they could relate to him more. When Brees was ousted from S.D. you really couldn’t blame them. I liked Brees there and I thought they might’ve made a mistake, but they had Rivers (high pick that everyone hates) getting paid alot to sit around. Notice how everyone hates Rivers and loves Brees? Kurt Warner over Matt Leinart is the same scenerio. It’s a better story for the media to cover it as “A guy just like you can live his football dream!” If Pennington stayed in New York and had the exact same year of course they’d be ragging on him per usual, but since it was Favre you’re seeing heads roll. It’s so predictable how they do this every year. I garauntee you Matt Ryan will be experiencing the same thing especially if his team fails to make the playoffs. There’ll be a ton of “I told you so!” going on there. I’m pretty sure if Leftwitch or Harrington had that supporting cast they’d perform as well. Maybe a little better or a little less, but the darlings of the NFL and media are always the come from behind type.

by monstersbox on Dec 29, 2008 2:47 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Well said

But I think Matt Ryan will be given a pass for a couple years. He may be a high draft pick, but remember what happened in Atlanta before him. He was going into an impossible situation. The team was in shambles and people said the city of Atlanta was not going to accept a non-black qb. Then steps in Whitey McWhiteness himself: Matt Ryan. He showed class, brought fans back to the Georgia Dome, and led his team to the playoffs.

Matt Ryan will get the same underdog treatment as Brees and Warner for quite awhile. But you’re spot on with the general theory.

by hoosierdore on Dec 29, 2008 3:01 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I agree with everything you said, except

for the reason everyone hates Rivers. I believe Rivers gets such much hate is because he’s immature, disrespectuful, and a loud mouth and a jackass. Being a high draft choice probably plays a very small in people’s disdain for him, but his attitude and behavior alone is why myself and others can’t stand that chump.

Hate Rivers

You are dead-on with the reasoning behind my hate.

Yeah

I knew I hated the Chargers, but when Rivers was mouthing off to our fans last year, and mocking Jay Cutler, he became an all-time punk.

I hope he sees a lot of Freeney and Mathis on Saturday.

I hope he doesn't see them

I hope he feels them pulling on his arm from behind which results in him not feeling the ball. Multiple times.

And one more thing

Football seems to be the only major sport were people love the underdog. In the NBA, even though LeBron hasn’t won and championship and got swept by the Spurs in the Finals, NO ONE ever mentions that. They’re always debating his greatness against Kobe’s. Likewise, Kobe’s past failures in the Finals really haven’t hurt his image either with people still arguing that he’s just as good or even better than Jordan who was 6-0 in the Finals. So the NBA doesn’t resent good, or something great performances from top draft picks unlike the NFL does.

by KMR24 on Dec 29, 2008 3:50 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Absolutely

Look at the difference between the 2007 and 2008 Patriots for an obvious example. The extremely talented 2007 team was reviled as arrogant (although they never spoke to the media about being “perfect”, it was always the company line from every single player ‘one game at a time’.) But the 2008 Patriots, decimated by injuries and with a QB who hadn’t started since high school, they were embraced as a gutsy, gritty team. Just a story line that the media is addicted to.

Keep the faith!

by Marima on Dec 29, 2008 4:27 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Well… Brady’s, ‘what, we’ll only score 17 points?’ comment was kinda arrogant :P But ya, the Patriots avoided the undefeated talk.

by Nideak on Dec 29, 2008 4:30 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Agreed

But that came out after they sent Brees to NO. The fans were calling for Brees to go for awhile. Then when Brees had a great year and hurt his shoulder Brees immediately turned into the underdog. And you’re right, Rivers is the dude that would come into a party and talk about how awesome he is at beer pong. One of those dudes you just want to slap.

All I have to say is Doug Flutie. RUDY RUDY RUDY! FLUTIE FLUTIE FLUTIE! Coincidence? I think not. I’ll let Flutie slide for being a Patriot, he was awesome. Garcia’s the new Flutie.

What do you expect from Jones?

I think he’s proven you can’t take a bunch of recalcitrant guys like T.O., Pacman, etc. and throw them together and expect a championship team. Team chemistry starts with the players’ integrity and character, in my opinion. I see Terrell Owens as a major disruptive force and no team is going to win the superbowl with him on their team. He’s selfish and everything he does is about advancing himself and getting attention somehow. He’s the antithesis of a team player. And, it sure doesn’t help to have Jerry Jones walking around the sidelines like a freak sticking his nose in every detail of the team’s operations. That’s like hiring a chef for a top five-star restaurant that you own, and then walking behind the chef in the kitchen and shadowing his/her every move. Wow! Sounds like fun! The Cowboys are designed for failure.

Putting it lightly

The Dallas o-line has “some protection problems.” You can’t expect your qb to keep his composure when he is running for his life or getting flattened half the time. You can sign all the great receivers you want, but plays take time to develop.

It’s football karma at its finest. You can’t win with a group of individuals. You can’t win when you demonstrate a complete lack of class (Titans). I finally stopped watching ESPN this year because I couldn’t take the Cowboys stuff anymore. They would rather talk about T.O than break down game film. Cowboys fans were happy when they landed T.O., and chose him over Parcells. Look how that turned out…

Ayrshire, thumbs up for “recalcitrant.”

re: cowboys coverage

I was attempting to watch nfl network highlights every time i turned the channel on they were talking about PHI-DAL, but only the DAL side of things. Kind of like after BAL destroyed them, all they talked about was the cowboys. Its annoying to put it mildly.

by Nideak on Dec 29, 2008 3:22 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

The media believes

that everyone loves hearing about the Cowboys, T.O., and Brady all of the time. But that’s not true. The Cowboys haven’t won a playoff game since Clinton was in office. About three or four presidential elections have occured, and the Cowboys still don’t have a playoff win. The media loves guys like T.O. and Ocho-Stinko because they give them stories while the hate guys like Marvin don’t want to respond to game-related questions. They bait athletes into saying something damaging or controversial about themselves or their teams. Brady gets a lot of media attention because of what monsterbox said: he was an underdog who succeeded in the NFL and the media loves stories like his and Favre’s.

by KMR24 on Dec 29, 2008 3:35 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Yep

Every team is either Super Bowl bound or completely inept after a win/loss, but the media just loves to do it more for the Cowboys. Its a few games away, but there is a chance out there that the Colts could play the Ravens or the Eagles. How about you let us hear about the good things the relevant teams are doing!!! I want to know what we have to look out for, but instead we get to wonder if Wade Phillips will keep his job. Every. Single. Day.

Oh, and if Brett Favre takes more than a week to retire and we have to go through another offseason of constant Favre talk, I’ll kill myself.

Thank God for blogs.

Because

They think that if they ignore us we’ll go away. Face it, we’re not as interesting as alot of other teams. We’re not dysfunctional. There’s no story. #1 pick lives up to expectations! Tony Dungy is a class act! Ed Johnson released for marijuana possession while people on other teams (Santonio Homes, Ellis, etc) say they’re sorry!

Sorry, I watch football to watch football. They can keep their soap operas. People wonder why it’s getting all sissy with the rules and what not. Well, when you have guys watching the coverage like women watching daytime soaps (no offense to women, some of them are very knowledgeable great fans) what do you expect? T.O. sitting there crying, Romo collapsing in the shower, Jessica Simpson, you name it.

I’d be furious if the Colts were anywhere close to that. Sorry, no drama here, just football.

by monstersbox on Dec 29, 2008 3:59 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

you said the key phrase

“I watch football to watch football”…

My least favorite phrase while watching a game? “Lets send it down to _” Insert: Michelle Tafoya, Suzy Kolber (i wanna kiss her, though), Chris Myers, Tony Saragosa, Pam Oliver, Andrea Kramer, etc…

I DONT CARE WHAT HIS GIRLFRIEND SAID ABOUT THE GAME, I DON’T CARE THAT HIS DOG HUMPS HIS LEG FOR GOOD LUCK, I DON’T CARE WHAT HAPPENED TO HIM AS A CHILD, I DON’T CARE IF TO AND WITTEN FAKE HATRED TO HIDE THEIR GAY LOVE FOR EACH OTHER, (In my best Herm voice): I watch… to watch… the game…

Its not that I wish ill-will on the players, but if i want to know about them, I can read about them. I have my own life to lead, I’d rather just stick to freakin football.

I had more fun watching that game. It was like a car wreck…I just couldn’t turn away!

It was like Christmas...

….all over again. I was driving home and listening to it on Sirius. My friend is a die hard Eagles fan but we live in Virginia Beach. So I was giving him updates with calls and texts. Seriously, I was laughing hysterically after the Romo, Barber, Jones fumbles. It was awesome. Funny thing though, even after this the majority of the coverage is still about the Cowboys. Oh well, at least we can gloat. I was also laughing hysterically when the Pats missed out, but maybe I’m just a grinch.

during the game

I called my dad and asked him who played better, Lord and Savior Favre or the Cowboys…

I’ll get back to you when we’ve come up with an answer. Its a close race.

My mom

had the nerve to feel sorry for Romo. She loathes the Cowboys, but she said that the Eagles’ defense should’ve stop bothering Romo after he ended up on the ground covering his face on that last forced fumble! It’s their job to bother him! He’s the quarterback lol! I’m sorry, but I can’t feel bad a guy who plays football for a living and signed a $67 million contract last year and who goes to Cabo with Jessica Simpson during the playoffs. I have no sympathy for him.

That’s cute. Look, I’m a mom and can understand the mentality. But in no way do I agree with her…but go easy on her…she sounds like a nice lady. ;)

BTW I agree with you. Not feeling to sorry for him myself. If he would learn to protect the ball he wouldn’t have been in that situation!

Don't go easy on KMR24's mom

Listen, I’m tired of people defending KMR24’s mom. ESPM (the Entertainment Sports and Moms network) will not stop talking about how great she is. Every damned week it’s “KMR24’s mom is the best mom since June Cleaver” or “KMR24’s mom makes your mom look like an incompetent loser.”

Well you know what? KMR24’s mom is a league-average mom at best. There I said it. She hasn’t lived up to her reputation for years. If she was such a great mom, she wouldn’t be going all mom about Tony Romo, now would she?

Every year another mom comes along and everybody’s goes, “Wow, this is the best mom of the last 20 years.” They never are. But every year it’s the same. And every year we’re disappointed when they don’t meet our expectations (e.g. feel empathy for Tony Romo).

p.s. But you’re right, peytonsthebest, she does sound like a nice lady.

You guys are hilarious!!!

Yeah, my mom’s cool, but she does love seeing the Cowboys lose more than anyone I know!

To Nideak:

Dude, I don’t know if my mom’s hot. She’s my mom lol! That being said, she still gets guys attention so I guess that’s a yes.

Now excuse me while I go shoot myself …
