Prisco for Most Valuable Tool?
As some of you may have noticed i have recently been on the "hating sports writers that dont see Manning as MVP candidate" bandwagon.
When i read this article by the greatest writer of all time, Prisco, I couldn't believe my eyes!
His article reports on the MVP race heading into the 3rd Qtr of the season. Below is what he had to say about the offensive MVP.....
Offensive Player: Brees. With little help from the running game, he's on pace to break Dan Marino's record for passing yards in a season.
Runners-up: Portis, Texas WR Andre Johnson, Vikings RB Adrian Peterson, Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald, Warner, Falcons RB Michael Turner.
Below is what he thinks of the MVP for the league....
MVP: The five Giants linemen will key their second Super push.
Runners-up: Giants QB Eli Manning, Redskins RB Clinton Portis, Cardinals QB Kurt Warner, Titans DT Albert Haynesworth, Saints QB Drew Brees, Broncos QB Jay Cutler.
Some of those picks have merit but
WHAT A COMPLETE TOOL!!!!!!
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Stampede Blue's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Stampede Blue's writers or editors.

I Know
I am about to get bashed for this, but do you really think that Peyton is MVP potential this year? COme on! Take off the rose colored glasses and lets get real. Peyton is probably the best QB ever, but this is NOT one of his best seasons, and Brees is having a GREAT year. He honestly does not deserve the consideration over Brees. Let the bashing begin!!!!
Someone once said "Vince Young bleeds two toned blue!" But I disagree, because The Great One Doesnt Bleed!!
Brees may be having a great year.
But it isn’t making a difference to his team…ie: not winning.
Peyton is having an un-Peyton-like year, definitely, but his play is making a difference in the win column.

Do you honestly believe
The Colts will be where they are this year without Manning?
That and Brees may not make the playoffs. That means all of his offensive production was for nothing.

My favorite part
is where he says “with little help from the running game, Brees is on pace…”. Actually, he’s on pace because of the lack of a running game. If Deuce or Reggie stay healthy and provide any sort of decent running attack, Brees’ numbers are down and their win total is up.
Great point.
He’s only throwing the ball alot because he has to. Kind of like Rivers in San Diego since LT hasn’t produced and Michael Turner is gone. Look at his numbers.

btw
What do you think about the Kiffen coaching decision? Curious. Do you think he will turn things around?

Kiffin = Hope
He definitely provides more hope than the previous staff.
Personally, I’m ecstatic. There is no way we should have lost to UCLA, Wyoming, and Auburn this season. Those losses are on the coaches. With Kiffin we win those two and possibly beat Georgia as well. Things are definitely looking up…
If rumors are true and Monte joins him on staff, I’ll be even more excited.
Monte would be a great get.
I would prefer that he join the Colts, though. :)

If Monte joined the Colts coaching staff
I think our defense would jump to the ‘next’ level.
Prisco has always been a smurt man...
I love the love for Brees and Warner. Two people tearing up crappy competition, once of whom won’t be in the playoffs and the other wouldn’t be if he didn’t play a JuCo sched. Portis’ team is like 1-4 over the last 5 games, clearly MVPish. They won’t make the playoffs.
Cutler’s team has lost to the raiders and the chiefs, were on the verge of probably not making the playoffs if they don’t shock the jets (any doubt that the chargers would have caught them if the Broncos lost that game?), he’s been wildly inconsistent, and in the games they’ve lost, he hasnt been stellar. I’m not saying its his fault, his defense blows, but its not like with manning in past years where the defense would cost the Colts the game, but Manning was putting up 23 of 27 for 320 and 4 TDs. Cutler has been off a lot fhis year.
Eli Manning isn’t the MVP of his team. Maybe its the OL, maybe its Jacobs. As much as I like little brother, he’s not the MVP. A team that is averaging over 150 yards on the ground could almost win 10 with Eli’s backup, David Carr.
I’m not sure how Albert Haynesworth is still in the discussion, here. They probably have a similar record with or without him.
The clear choices: Manning (P), Favre, Peterson… he lists none of them. Writers are nothing more than statwhores anymore, its a shame that we, the fans, look at more than the boxscores for these things, but the writers that get paid to do this can’t be bothered.
that's fine
Im just trying to be fair, the jets were 4-12 last year and will probably win the east this year. I think Favre has a lot to do with it, and I’m big on ‘where would team x be without this guy’ and I don’t know that they’d be this good with Kellen Clemens or whatever his name is. Maybe they’d still be pretty good with Chad Pennington, though.
All that said, Ive been saying for, I think 3 weeks now, that it should be Peyton Manning, and its not all that close. If the Williams’ sisters are out in Minnesota, I think they miss the playoffs, and I don’t think anyone should win the MVP if they miss the playoffs.
look at what Pennington is doing in Miami
and it’s not a cast issue either. The Jets are way better at WR, and a bit better at TE and RB.
Shonn Greene for Heisman
Big Ten's leading Rusher, Leads FBS
144 yards per game
6.2 yards per carry
08 TDs per game > 06 GPA
yah, Im agreeing
The thing everyone(in the media) is ignoring is the fact that the Jets only got ‘hot’ when the Jets coaching staff turned Brett Favre into Pennington. Since the Oakland loss, the Jets have turned their offense into what it should have been all along: A strong running game with a QB that manages the game and just picks up chunks of yards when they need it. Exactly what Pennington used to do. And if you go back to the Denver game, what happened? Thomas Jones got his lowest touch total in 5 games, and they lose.
sounds like you just pointed out the reason why Favre is NOT a candidate. Put Chad back on that team and they’re still 8-4. They probably beat Oakland but lose to New England. Favre has been very accurate but is also, in a way, neutered by the coaching staff. Not an MVP. Jenkins is the best player on that team anyway.
Peyton isn’t putting up the gaudy numbers or even making his best throws this year, but he’s winning games no other QB in the league wins and doing more with less than anyone else in the game. Those drives against Jacksonville, Houston, Minnesota, Pittsburgh, San Diego, NE, hell – every win except the last one – have just been incredible. He can put the team on his back and beat anyone. It’s what gives us such optimism… if the rest of the team gets healthy and meets expectations, they’ll be the most dangerous team in January.
keep up
I agreed with what Shake said. I agree that Chad Pennington could probably have them with this record.
That being said, the media probably isn’t looking at it that way, and like him or not, his team has won 4 more games this year than last year. Its a marked improvement and his is the most visible face of that improvement.
I’ve said for weeks and continue to say, that Peyton should win the award, but they still vote someone 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th.
