Wheeling and dealing: 2008 Free Agency News

  • Jonathan Vilma was traded to the Saints for a conditional draft pick. Vilma was a stud in Herm Edwards' cover 2, but when Eric Mangini installed his 3-4 defense, Vilma struggled. Now, he's a Saint. The last player who went from a Cover 2 defense to the Saints defense was Jason David. Pray for Saints fans. Link from PoD.
  • Cowboys traded Jason Ferguson to the Dolphins. Ferguson is a Parcells guy, and was the anchor of his defenses in New York (Jets) and at Dallas.
  • There is still no deal in place for Randy Moss.
  • The Eagles are likely to sign Asante Samuel. Deal is "Close, if not already done," according to John Clayton of ESPN.
  • Now minus Vilma, the Jets received DT Kris Jenkins from the Panthers. The move likely means Dewayne Robertson is a goner in NY.
  • The Jags finally got a receiver that can catch and run routes, signing former Raiders receiver jerry Porter. Porter must feel like he's been paroled.
  • With Jason Ferguson now in the fold, the Dolphins signed LBer Reggie Torbor.

Bengals
And the Bengals get another "problem player" in Shaun Rogers!

Randy Moss. .
It sounds like they aren't near a contract yet.  I thought I'd wake up and he'd have signed a contract already.  On ESPN it says he's now listening to offers from other teams.  Here's to hoping some team way overpays him and the Patriots fade into mediocrity next year.

Still think
That the Eagles make the most sense to sign him.  Draft a good DE to up the pass rush, and they've got a pretty solid D.  Add Moss and draft another WR for McNabb to throw to, and they have a solid offense., Plus the Eagles have cap room(unless the Samuel deal is a budget buster).  Who else will have the cap?  How are the Bucs looking?

The Bucs have a ton of cap space, so do the Chargers.  The Chargers would be pretty damn scary with Moss.

Hmmm.......
Agreed.  Let's hope the Bucs make the move and see if Galloway has one more season in him.  Bucs win the NFC South no doubt if they get this deal done.
