Favre Retires!

ESPN.com and Foxsports.com are both reporting that Favre has informed the Packers he will not return for the 2008 season.

http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/7870944

Update [2008-3-4 10:9:30 by BigBlueShoe]: The report is from Jay Glazer, who is usually right when he sticks his name behind a story. He's claiming that Green Bay's legendary QB Brett Favre is retiring:

FOXSports.com has learned that legendary quarterback Brett Favre has decided to retire. In fact, it's believed he informed the Packers of his decision within the last few days, although it's unclear when Favre and the team will make his decision known.
Check out Acme Packing Company for updates on whether this story is true or bogus. If true, it's a sad day for football. Favre is one of the best QBs of all time, and his connection to the Wisconsin area is unrivaled for an athlete. Favre is a legend, and if he doesn't play in 2008, then the 2008 season just got a little less interesting.

Update [2008-3-4 11:0:36 by BigBlueShoe]: Here's an image circa 1997:

Eleven years later, I think we can safely say that because of these two men football does indeed matter.

week 15 2013
The day Manning could reach 254 consecutive starts, breaking Favre's record. Start the countdown.

Haha
That was my first thought....

Man thats a long time to play without getting an injury.

thats because its impossible
Favre was injured a lot, he just was tough enough to play hurt, through the pain, which is one of the qualitites that made him so special.

Too soon?
That, and an addiction to narcotics and booze.

Don't get me wrong; I think Favre is one of the best QBs of all time. But his records are the product of playing waaaaaaaay longer than everyone else. His starts record is probably untouchable; Manning is the only QB I can see coming even close, and even then it'll take him another six years or so (minus playoffs and whatnot) to do it. He'll inevitably break every passing record Favre set in less time. At some point he'll probably reclaim the single season TD crown. Ultimately, Favre will be remembered for his toughness. He's a first ballot HoFer. And Peter King will have to find a new man-crush. Aaron Rogers maybe?

yep...
His records exist because of all the games he played not because he was mega efficient or anything.

As for Fatty king...he already replaced Favre with brady for his man crush.

Oh and am I the only guy who'd find it funny if the Packers made it to the SB with rodgers in his first season? All these moron media people are acting like GB will suck now so it'd be fitting if they went further without favre.

I'm glad that favre has finally retired. That's one less jizzfest I need to hear/read about with the mainstream media.

Somewhere, in an Outback Steakhouse Bus
John Madden is weeping.  He was the only one that knew a team of Brett Favres against another team of Brett Favres would be Utopia.

Boom!
And that's what it's all about!

Favre
He's the 3rd best QB ever, and one of my favs. Yet, I hope he retires on the top of his game (or close to that).

3rd?
Interesting. He isn't even in my top 5 of the last 20 years.

Steve Young was better than Favre
Montana
Marino
Peyts
Brady

Favre was too careless throwing and that to me doesn't make a great qb. I'll take a guy who is efficient and not making boneheaded throws over a guy who may make a big play but will throw an INT at the wrong time like you know, vs the Giants in OT in the nfc final this past season.

I'd only put Marino and Manning over Favre
Not to take anything off Young or Brady. Maybe not even for the numbers, but from what I saw.

Well...
The Packers shouldn't have to beg and convince him to come back.  If he's not 100% into it, then he made the right decision.

welp
I retract any and all of my statements saying the Packers would be one of 3 teams in the chase next season for the Super Bowl.  Looks like it's all down to the Giants, Cowboys, and Bucs/Seahawks.

Farewell Favre.
