Around SBN: Jim Irsay: We Can Make It Work With Peyton Manning

Now it's last minute input time

The SBNation NFL Mock Draft is nearing it's end. The Colts #59 pick will come up on Tuesday. Unfortunately another of my favorites came off the board today. Leaving only 2 of my top 5 guys I hoped to have the choice of.

Chris Johnson (taken #42)
Trevor Laws (taken #26)
Matt Forte
Cliff Avril (taken #53)
Earl Bennett (a new favorite. Miller makes the Marvin Harrison comparison and it's there. Great routes, hands, not a burner but has good speed and great quickness)

Xavier Adibi
Marcellus Bennett (taken #41)
Lawrence Jackson (to play DT)
Erin Henderson
Fred Davis
Geno Hayes
John Carlson

Star-divide

I'm not interested in 3 of Miller's top 5 remaining (Crable-not good enough in zone, Charles-fumbles, untested hands, not a blocker, Henne-backup QB isn't near that big of a need) So hopefully the guys I'm sure about will drop

What do you guys think?

If Forte is there I'm taking him, but I'm struggling with Bennett vs Adibi and not very confident about the order after that. On the bright side, at least 3 of those 8 remaining will be there.

Well that solves my Bennett-Abidi
problem, but not in the way I wanted. Why do the other teams have to draft all the good players?

If everybody else drafted the so-called "good players" then the Detroit Lions should of had a superbowl by now, or even the Raiders.

saw it in someones sig, "In Polian We Trust"

Early Doucet
Don't forget bout Early Doucet, WR from LSU. He's got slot receiver ability right now, and he can return punts and kicks.

I don't like Doucet much
here's the highlights of the profile that really turned me off of him.
Is a sloppy route runner. Blocking: Is big enough to be an outstanding blocker for the position when he gives maximum effort. Whether he does that or not will be the key for him in this regard. Is prone to dropping passes that shouldn't be put on the turf. Not regarded as a particularly hard worker in either the weight or film room. Not a particularly intelligent player. Has shown a bit of a cocky or arrogant side this season

I'll check out some other profiles to make sure NES doesn't just hate him.

I checked out some more
The route running concerns were always there. Most liked is blocking. All said good hands, but the NFL.com profiles mentioned the easy drops too.

I'm slotting him in behind Adibi at best, bottom of the list above at worst (behind Carlson).

Yeah
It seems like Early is best taken late.

I wanted Bennett when you posted this,
but he's gone, too. Aargh! I think you have to hope for Forte at this point. I think it might be a bit early for Howard, plus we can address that need later if necessary.

With Carlson gone

Forte should be the consensus pick pending his availability
