Looks like Michigan's Jake Long is the #1 overall pick this year
According to Michael David Smith of AOL Fanhouse:
The Miami Dolphins have agreed to a contract with Michigan offensive tackle Jake Long and will sign him to a contract with $30 million guaranteed, multiple media outlets are reporting.I don't think many saw this coming. The consensus seemed to be that Chris Long from Virginia would go #1, but I guess Bill Parcells feels Jake Long can lock down the LT spot for the Dolphins for years to come.
Obviously, this completely changes the draft. Look for teams to try and trade out of the top 10.

contract
The Phinsider is saying it’s a 5 year, $57.5M deal. Wow, that’s massive for an OL. Aren’t all the big free agent OL getting like 7 year $50M deals?
These rookie contracts are getting ridiculous.

Why
When it comes to football intelligence, the draft is not my strongest suit. Why is it that teams will now want to trade out of the first round?

Rams
I think the Rams and the Falcons wanted Jake Long. St. Louis will likely take Chris Long, but the Falcons really need o-line help badly. They will not take Ghoulston because they took a DE last year in the top 15. So, I think they will look to trade down and draft someone like Chris Williams. JMO.

I heard they really like Dorsey
Listening to the radio pundits, the Falcons really want Dorsey, and are fearful the Rams will take him.
I agree with you that they won’t take Chris Long, so if the Rams take Dorsey, it will be very interesting to see in what direction the Falcons go. I don’t think the Ravens need to go that high to get Ryan, but I do think they’ll move up to 5 to get him, as the Chiefs can drop to 8 and get the lineman they want in Brandon Albert.

Top 10
Teams want to trade out of the top 10 because of these crazy rookie contracts! Having a top 10 pick is almost a curse these days.

I think...
This is going to be a good pick. I watched a replay of the Florida/Michigan game on the Big 10 network this weekend and he’s a beast.
Besides, when you’re the Dolphins… you can use help at any number of positions.

I'm On the Fence About This One
He isn’t a great pass protector, but he’s easily the best run blocker in the draft. I would have thought they would take Chris Long, who is definitely the best player in this draft.

Colts Homer
Not a good pass protector? He gave up two sacks and had one or two holding calls in his entire college career? How is that not good. He looks like a great talent at either tackle position and a hard working team player. To Parcells, LT is the #1 position, under that is a pass-rushing DE and a game managing type QB. This was the pick for them.

They say he's bad at pass protection...
Because he gave up two sacks to Vernon Ghoulston. That’s the only reason I can see that they’re knocking him. Ghoulston is considered by some to be an elite pass rusher, so it’s assumed that Jake Long will struggle against elite rushers.
Whether that’s true or not is unclear, but that’s the logic behind his pass blocking criticism
