Patriots

I still find it humorous that each time the Patriots make a pick everyone boos

by MarkFive05 on Apr 27, 2008 11:34 AM EDT reply actions

could wheller

be a DE he had 6 sacks as a senior

by coltsfan21 on Apr 27, 2008 11:35 AM EDT reply actions

The more i read

the more I like this pick, he is fast and undersized just like we want them. I am also reading he is versatile and could eventually play all three LB positions, due to his speed he may also make an impact on special teams right away.

Not sure about MLB

They say he’s week in coverage and turning with his hips, which could spell trouble if he’s backing up Brackett in the cover 2. I’d say Sessions will likely stick behind Brackett and this guy will be a Will or Sam.

i was thinking we will see what they list him as and say about him

he's not a good cover guy

but a great blitzer. LB-—>DE?

ok

Eric Loomis from NES
“he has the physical skills to cover, but he just was never asked to do it. his skillset and physical attributes will do well in that defense”

They say on

nfldraftcountdown that wheeler has great pass rushing ability. so a change to DE is possible

by metal_militia on Apr 27, 2008 11:42 AM EDT reply actions

I'm an ND season ticket holder

So I got to see Phillip Wheeler play twice (I went to Atlanta for the first game two years ago). He is amazingly fast. He’s one of the fastest linebackers I’ve ever seen. He could be a big X-factor next year. He could play DE, OLB, and MLB. That could be a great asset, especially if we have injury problems again.

The only reason I wouldn't want him

it because if the Colts draft him I probably have to start saying his name right. I don’t think it’s said.

jack williams

might be a good pick with our 4th as well.

where are we gonna play wheeler? de? looks like he might be a good special teamer as well

by jochexum on Apr 27, 2008 12:11 PM EDT reply actions

forgot about Williams

I want him too.
Where Wheeler plays decides whether I want Howard or Adibi.
Burton or a TE would be more of a need filler though

Even if they convert him to DE...

I think you still go after guys like Howard, Hardie, and Titus Brown. Can’t rely on a project like Wheeler to fill the missing pass rusher spot. If not, then I think the Colts will go either TE or CB with this next pick.

by Aerostar193 on Apr 27, 2008 12:13 PM EDT reply actions

i agree

Definitely still need a DE, there’s just a lot of DE depth and for just a situational guy we can use one of our many 6th round picks to take one or even two. burton or williams are who id like to see with this pick

Craig Steltz

Being from Baton Rouge, I’m a big LSU homer but I’d love to see the Colts take a shot at Steltz, although maybe not till later in the day. Good tackler and one of those guys who seems to always find the ball and make a play. Would be a great special teams guy for his first few seasons as well

by jochexum on Apr 27, 2008 12:21 PM EDT reply actions

dont the Patriots have a QB?

i forget his name, they have a good backup too. why would they draft o’connell?

by skywalker on Apr 27, 2008 12:26 PM EDT reply actions

i thought it was an interesting pick as well

I liked o connell but 3rd round is way earlier than anyone had him projected.

by jochexum on Apr 27, 2008 12:27 PM EDT up reply actions

Backup Matt Cassel...

...is a free agent after the 2008 season. The only thing I can think of is they wanted to get O’Connell into the system a year in advance.

by MaPatsFan on Apr 27, 2008 5:01 PM EDT up reply actions

ThiI dub this draft

The incompency draft. So many good people have gone way too high, and people like Xavier Adibi are somehow still on the board.

What the hell were the Titans thinking when they took Hayes from Winston-Salem State. He wasn’t even listed by the NFL.

Manning to Manningham will happen

But unfortunately it is for the Giants… Will be listening to see how the announcers deal with that one…

They're calling Adibi

a prototypical cover two OLB. He fits so well there’s no reason to move him.

I thought we

we were good on linebackers. we need depth at DE

by skywalker on Apr 27, 2008 12:40 PM EDT up reply actions

It's not a huge need

right away but he’s a perfect fit and they need LBs down the road.

I just wonder

How big a wrench did the Lions throw into their plans.

by BSanders37 on Apr 27, 2008 12:43 PM EDT up reply actions

NFL.com says

“With his excellent range and quickness, Adibi will probably shift to outside linebacker in the NFL. Alert when playing zone coverage, Adibi gets excellent depth on his pass drops, and a team could choose to convert him to strong safety.”

by skywalker on Apr 27, 2008 12:38 PM EDT reply actions

Adibi

Looks like a WIll to me, which wouldn’t be a bad idea considering Keiaho – while I love him – has been bit by the injury bug thus far in his career.

by BSanders37 on Apr 27, 2008 12:39 PM EDT reply actions

at this point in the draft
