Ideas

WR – I don’t see Garcon and Giguere both making the team. I also don’t see both of them beating out Aromashodu. So I’d go with one or the other.

RB – I can see KK not making the roster.

TE – I don’t see Gijon Robinson making the roster. Santi and Robinson both have experience at FB and both are larger blocking TEs. There’s no real reason to keep both on the roster when both can serve in those capacities and since Santi has a leg up in receiving ability… I say he stays but Robinson is left on the practice squad in case of injuries.

OT – I see us having at least two back-up OTs on the roster and think Charlie Johnson will make the squad before Federkeil… particularly because he is suited and is being trained to be able to play both OT and OG.

OG – I don’t see a reason to have Mike Elgin on the active roster… having two back-ups at OG doesn’t really make sense when Steve Justice will do just fine in that capacity and I’m sure he’ll be prepared for that role, along with backing up Saturday.

DE – Josh Thomas will make the roster… count on it.

LB – I’d be very surprised if Ramon Guzman didn’t make the team… at least as a special teams player.

Safety – Melvin Bullitt was the most impressive back-up DB I saw on the team outside of Jennings/Hughes. Additionally, he did well on special teams and I don’t see him not making the roster.

CB – Tim Jennings will make the roster. Count on it.

Hey thanks for the feedback. This list is based on what I have seen and/or heard about all of the players on the 80+ man roster. I’ll try to match you and provide a justification for the discrepancies you pointed out. Remember, we haven’t even had our first full team mini-camp yet, so I have little to work with.

WR – I guarantee Garcon makes the roster, he is too much of a talent. Giguere is making it based on the sheer athleticism and hard work that I see in him. I haven’t seen him run a route though, so who knows? The Aroma could be back, with Sam Giguere on the practice squad.

TE – I only have Gijon Robinson making it if we carry four TEs. As it looks like we are looking to play at least 50% two TE sets, I think this could be a real possibility, especially if we don’t keep a real fullback on the roster. Gijon was dominating at the level of play that he came from in college, and didn’t see the field last year because of injury. If we decide to only carry 3 TE’s, which is more typical of the Colts, then I would see either another tackle(maybe Charlie Johnson, maybe a UDFA) added, or a fourth back(Kenton Keith most likely, though don’t count out Chad Simpson).

OT – I remember hearing that before he got injured Federkeil was pressing CJ out of the OL rotation. And I hate CJ, so until I see proof of his improvement at the tackle spot, I see him gone and either Federkeil, Toudouze, or a UDFA taking that spot. As I said above, another OT would probably be added if we don’t carry 4 TEs or 4 RBs.

OG – Again, a possibility. Put the Colts haven’t talked much of his ability to play guard, but it could happen. Another means for the Colts to add another OT for depth or another RB(or possibly a 5th DE or S).

DE – I don’‘t know about that. I think we have enough competence to stop the run, and we need as much depth in the pass rush as possible. He could surely make the roster if we carry a 5th DE. Curtis Johnson just looks too compelling to put on the practice squad.

LB – I would like to see him, but they drafted Wheeler, and unless Tyjuan Hagler regresses this year, I don’t see Guzman displacing him. I also don’t see six linebackers.

S – I like Bullitt and if we opt for a fifth safety, he’s our guy, no doubt. But Silva is a Bob Sanders-type playmaker and kamikaze, and Giordano’s speed is critical to the special teams squad. Bullitt didn’t stand out to me in special teams enough to jump over the other two.

CB – Tim Jennings is fast and talented, but he better progress a lot. He was out of place a lot of the time last year. People here in Texas speak highly of Foster, and TJ Rushing has utility on special teams as well. He might make the roster as the dimeback if Foster doesn’t pan out. I hold that New England game against him alot though…

Again, thanks for the feedback, and I’ll be back with revisions as we get more info and hopefully video from the OTAs. Then I’ll issue the second version at the onset of training camp, and a third version at the onset of the preseason. I’ll have revisions in between versions until the Colts make the roster official and I look like either a dummy or a genius.
