the better secondary
In true homeriffic fashion, Terry claims the Cowboys to have the best secondary in the NFL this season. Also in true homeriffic fashion, I wholeheartedly disagree. Last year's stats speak for themselves but he claims that adding PacMan Jones put the Cowboys far and ahead of other teams, including the Colts. I've looked through all of Jones' game stats and don't see how he is really all that great as a cornerback. In 4 career games against Indy, Pacman has no INTs and only 1 PD.
Anyways, go on over to Mocking The Draft and find my Poll under the FanPost section. Vote which secondary you would rather have.
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Stampede Blue's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Stampede Blue's writers or editors.

you can't judge a CB by INTs
thats a very misleading stat for a CB because really good CBs don’t get a lot of INTs since QBs don’t throw their way. CBs with a lot of INTs aren’t great cover corners because QBs know they can beat them and throw their way often.
Case in point Deion Sanders was the best cover corner of all time and didn’t get a lot of INTs because QBs were afraid to throw his way. QBs are afraid to throw at Pacman and Newman because their receivers rarely if ever get open.
Believe me, you’re not going to find 2 better cover corners in the league than Newman and Pacman, not to mention Henry is pretty decent himself. Throw in Hamlin who is one of the best safeties in the league, and a first rd CB with great talent in Mike Jenkins , no team in the league has better talent in the secondary.
As a side note, Roy Williams will rarely see the field in passing situations this season as Henry is taking over his spot in the nickel and Williams will never see the field against teams like the Colts who go with 3 WR sets every down.

PacMan?
Sorry but ADAM JONES (in order to get a nickname you have to earn it and maybe Jones could have earned the “Pacman” nickname while we was in prison) has wretched coverage skills. The guy is nothing more than an Al Davis “workout wonder.”

Newman is a fantastic corner
.. and it is amazing how overlooked he is by the general public. But to call Pacman a complete stud is way too much. The guy hasn’t seen the field due to off-field problems, and it would be pretty naïve to believe that just because he has substituted his zipcode to a Dallas zip-code, he’ll all the sudden stop making problems. If he was so great, couldn’t the Titans have gotten more for him than a 4th rounder?
Henry and Hamlin is decent guys, and I’m sure Mike Jenkins will also be along the way, but doesn’t the Dallas scheme pretty much on man-to-man coverage? Isn’t a bit of a reach to believe a kid, who was projected to be a terrific COVER-2 CB, can fill out a starter/nickel role in his first year in a such scheme?
I wouldn’t hesitate to call the Eagles’ secondary better than cowboys. And I also believe the Colts have a secondary that are not neccesarily more talented, but with the scheme and everything are at least twice as good.
I expect a lot of missed assignments in the beginning of the season for Dallas, but for terry’s sake I hope they can improve, and be like a top-10 secondary somewhere in the near future.. :)

the reason why Titans only got a 4th rounder
was because he’s one mis step away from being banned from the league. If not, you’re looking at the 6th overall pick in the 2005 draft and I’m sure his value without his track record would be a first rounder for sure.
I also never said he would remain a choir boy with Dallas, I’m just saying talent wise, their isn’t a better at those positions in the league if he indeed keeps his nose clean. How it plays out could be a whole different story.

Yep terry, keep dropn knowledge on those unaware of how good the secondarys going to be(barring injuries). the new combination is better than whats been here in the past. which should translate too much better overall defense.

Colts Secondary
The Colts have depth as well. Dante “Don’t Call Me Daymeion” Hughes was a nice nickel corner back when healthy, and I still have some faith in Tim Jennings.
At safety, Matt Giordano would be a starter on many other teams.
The Colts will have the number one pass defense this season without a doubt.

You have to think that
The Colts’ starting CB’s are going to be better this year than last. And Bethea should improve as well. Keiaho and Hagler, too. People forget we had a top 5 defense last year with many young players (first through third seasons). They will progress, and Mathis/Brock/Freeney/Sanders/Keiaho will all be healthy starting the season. Let’s keep our fingers crossed they all stay healthy..

PacMan vs Marvin and Reggie
Marvin Harrison vs the Titans with PacMan
9-109-2, 4-61-1, 3-29-1, 7-172-1
total of 23 receptions for 371 yards and 5 TDs
average of 6-93-1.25
(Marvin’s career per game averages 6 for 80 and .7TD)
Reggie Wayne
2-48-1, 3-50-1, 3-24-1, 3-57-1
total of 11 for 179 and 3 TDs
3 for 45 and a TD average
(Wayne’s career per game averages 4.5 for 64 and .4 TDs)
Marvin Harrison had big games, Wayne had less yards and receptions the usual but still scored above his average rate (less than half a TD a game).
PacMan couldn’t cover Marvin and wasn’t any better than the average #2 vs Wayne.

those stats are meaningless as usual
because your stats don’t show who was covering Harrison and Wayne when they made those receptions. and TDs. To assume Pacman was covering them on all those receptions is ridiculous.

it's not assumed
nobody said he was covering them. Shake said “vs. the Titans with Pacman”. You’re right, we don’t know who he was covering but if you look at some of those games it’s safe to say he probably didn’t play all that well.
Pacman is overrated when it comes to coverage. Where he will help your team is in the return game. That’s where he is dangerous and can be a threat.

I agree that his return skills
are superior to his corner skills right now, but his has enormous talent and will only get better as a corner. If he has learned how to behave off the field, and thats certainly a very big if, you’re looking at a top 5 CB in a few years because his physical ability is off the charts.

I can't wait
Pacman and T.O. on the same team. This is going to be awesome. The Vikings sex cruise will be nothing compared to the embarrassment these two will bring on the Cowboys when they join forces. You can’t have two crazies on the same team. It just doesn’t work. Ask the Pacers what happened when they brought Steven Jackson onto a team with Artest. It didn’t take long until the two of them were running up into the stands during games and beating the shit out of spectators. I can see the headlines now: DEAD HOOKER FOUND IN COWBOY’S LOCKER ROOM TRASHCAN.

It has gone from being funny to ridiculous. Yeah, the Cowboys have a good team but so do the Colts. The Colts have just as good a chance to win as your team does. As a matter of fact, we have the same team (only healthy) that did better than your team in last season’s playoffs.

how did the Colts do better?
Cowboys went 13-3, earned a first rd bye and lost in the divisional playoff rd.
Colts went 13-3, earned a first rd bye and lost in the divisional playoff rd.
Cowboys actually improved their team significantly by replacing Ayodele and J. Jones with Thomas and F. Jones while also adding Pacrat Jones and another 1st rd corner in the draft.
So the only one dreaming here is you if you don’t think the Cowboys chances are just as great if not greater than the Colts to win SB XLIII.

Terry, that's only because of the suuporting cast Romo had.
Give Harrington that cast, and he would be better than Romo. Therefore, the stats and whatever else you say all mean nothing. Harrington is just better. Anyone who can’t admit that is blinded by homerism.

thats not true and you know that
Harrington is a bust and Romo is an elite superstar qb who will someday bypass Manning and Brady as the best qb in the game.
BTW, you can’t tell me that Harrington didn’t have superior talent in Detroit because he most certainly did.

Ahahahahaha!
Thanks for the good laugh! Let’s see… Lions… Lions… Lions… oh yeah! That’s the team that hasn’t made the playoffs since 1999. Hasn’t won a playoff game since 1991 (against the Cowboys no less!) Combined record this decade: 40-88. Combined record with Harrington: 19-45. Woo! That’s some SUPERIOR talent, I’d say!

Romo
Comparing Romo to Harrington might be a bit off, but comparing him to Manning and Brady is homerism at its best (worst?). Romo is nowhere near an “elite superstar QB” and has a long, long, long way to go before he can be mentioned in the same breath as Manning or Brady. Maybe he turns out good, maybe he even wins a Super Bowl, but the previously mentioned QBs have set an extremely high pedestal.

if you read
my post I said someday. No doubt Romo has the skills and team to achieve the greatness Brady and Manning have, its only a matter of time.
Currently, however, he is easily a top 5 QB which puts him in elite status.
