Peyton Having Knee Surgery
I heard this story on the TV in the other room and almost crapped my pants.

Looks like we're without yet another key player for the duration, or a majority of the duration, of training camp.Peyton will undoubtedly still be prepared for the regular season opener, but the development of people like Tom Santi, Jacom Tamme, Roy Hall, and others on the offense will definitely be slowed by Peyton's absense in the huddle for 4-6 weeks.

My Non-Swearing Take
“Okay. Today is the 14th. So sometime between August 11th and August 25th should be Peyton’s return to the practice field. Luckily, that is long before the season starts. However, it is never good to have a future Hall of Famer and soon-to-be greatest QB in the history of the game go down with an injury.
One thing to remember is that Peyton has never had injury problems before. A broken jaw in his rookie year is the worst that has happened. He missed one play because of it. Peyton is not known for his mobility, so this shouldn’t have a lasting effect. However, the first teams we play are Chicago, Minnesota, and Jacksonville. All of those teams were top 10 in sacks last year, and Minnesota added Jason Allen. The line has to protect Manning.
To sum it up, this is the most frightening thing non-spider related I can imagine. Jim Sorgi is our backup. I will repeat that. Jim Sorgi. If Peyton is not healthy, we are screwed. Hopefully, Peyton will recover on time, and him, Sanders, Freeney, and Marvin can all make their return against the Bears and beat the living daylights out of them.”

Backups?
Maybe this will make the colts rethink their backup QB situation. A move for Chris Simms maybe?

I don't think Simms is do-able
there are teams out there that are looking at him for a starting spot. (The Bears) I don’t think he’ll be affordable as a backup if someone is offering starter level compensation (whether it’s trade or free agency).

Concerning
I wonder what the long term effects of this could be. I’m not a doctor, but my understanding is that the bursa sac acts as a lubrication for joints. It would seem to me that, absent the bursa sac, there would be more grinding at the joint over time, which would lead to greater wear and tear at an accelerated rate. Anyone on here in the medical field that can let us know?

no panic
He had this same issue his senior season at Tennessee. This won’t affect him and it’s not going to lead toward more injuries. Don’t panic.

Isn’t this bursa sac the same thing that troubled Harrison last season?

Positive side
The Colts will get to see Sorgi play with the first unit, and if he sucks it should compel them to find a quality back-up.

No big deal
I had an infected ball sac once. Its a pretty routine procedure really, they simply tie a rubber band around the sac, and then remove the testes. He’ll be back on the horse in a matter of weeks….

Oh God
Jim Sorgi puts brown stains in my pants. I was there at the Titans game. Sorgi got LEVELED on that sack. Lets have Josh Betts have a go at QB.

Just for future reference
because I’m sure it’ll come up.
Sorgi is signed through 2010 with $155,000 in guaranteed money. So cutting him would have a small cap charge (155,000 possibly split with some going against next years cap) but not a really significant one. For example Rob Morris’ cap charge counts more than double that on the Colts current cap.

Adam Tafralis
Let’s see what he can do. I think he will beat out Betts on the practice squad.

Is he good
I didn’t see Tafralis play through out his school years. I like the size of Betts. His arms are huge for a QB. I heard Tafralis can play H back. That would be funny to see him on Special teams.
