Enigma of Keyunta Dawson the peewee DT

Would one of you savvy bloggers explain how a 245 DT can be effective in colllapsing the pocket and stopping the run when he's consistently up against 300 lb. linemen?

I know he's fast , but don't DTs need bulk more than speed?  In the middle of the field where the bodies pile up, there's not a lot of room for him to use his speed, is there?

I suspect the answer is some glib reason for why the team uses the Cover 2, so I thank you in advance...

Your selling him at least 10lbs short

and I expect he’s been working on bulking up. Brock plays the undertackle spot at 274, so a little more bulk on Dawson and he’s not even undersized for a Tampa-2 undertackle.

With DTs it’s the quickness not the speed that you like getting on (though speed is good if they stunt outside or in pursuit).

I wouldn’t worry about him playing the undertackle, but his size could definitely be an issue at the nose.

He seems more of a pass rusher.

Honestly it’s our LBs that need to cover their assignments and stop the run, our tackles need to slip the O-line and pressure the QB, and giant 300-lb hambeasts aren’t necessarily quick enough for that.

Rotation, my friend

It looks like this year Dungy is moving Raheem Brock back to the DE/passing down DT role he used to, so that should take some of the reps from Dawson. Also, I think rookie FA Eric Foster is going to help out quite a bit.

shake n bake agreement

And yes, shake n bake is right. Keyunta weighs at least 255.
