Jeff Saturday has a damaged MCL
We finally know what the Injury Saturday suffered in the Bills game was. According to the Indy Star Saturday was initially told he should have surgery on his right knee to fix the damage. After seeking a second opinion Saturday is considering playing through the injury. The ligament is apparently not torn, but playing on it without surgery risks further injury and could hinder his performance. Surgery on the knee would cause him to miss several weeks of the regular season.
"It could be the type of thing where he could be back next week or it could be something major if he needs surgery, and we don't know right now,"-Tony Dungy

Scenarios
If surgery would fix the problem, and he would be back by, say, Week 9, then get the surgery. If surgery ends his season, no. Don’t do it. But hold him out of games until 6 weeks from now (aka, put Saturday on the PUP). This way, he has time to heal. The Colts can get by without him for the first few months of the season.

agree
I would rather have him later in the season and for the playoffs. This would also benefit the younger guys who would get playing time in his absence.
Makes me wonder, does Polian see into the future? Did he know Saturday would go down and that’s why he drafted 3 college centers? Did he know Tarik would retire and that’s why he traded up to get Ugoh? Shall we refer to him as Nostrapolianamus?
Why?
How many players can go on PUP?

If you believe Wikipedia
It looks like you have to start Training Camp on PUP. If you start on the active roster, you cannot be placed on the PUP.
If you practiced you can't go on the PUP

found it....
Dallas Clark – TE – Colts
Dallas Clark’s knee injury has been diagnosed as a sprained ACL.
Clark took part in some pre-game drills before Indianapolis’ Monday night win over Cincinnati. He might be back in time for Week 17.

Not Wise
I think Saturday he making the wrong decision to go ahead and try playing instead of having the surgery although it was stated that it’s not nearly as severe as Merriman’s injury it would only take the right kind of hit to possiably make it so.
Saturday IMO should have the surgery take the time to heal then come back at full strength that way he will be at peace of mind with himself and be better for the team.
has it been said...
that he is going to go ahead and try and play? i thought that decision hasnt been made yet.
I wonder what he's thinking
My guess is that Saturday targeted this as his last year in the league, which is making his decision that much more difficult. I would say that, if he has surgery, there is a definite possibility he wouldn’t make it back on the field this year, and that’s probably messing with him pretty bad.
