Hall of Fame Game: Colts 16-Redskins 30
Pre-season is underway with the Hall of Fame game in the books. I agree with John Madden (who is normally a buffoon): This was actually a well played game by both teams. Tip your hat to Jim Zorn and to Tony Dungy. I'll do a more formal write-up later, but off the top of my head I was very impressed with Redskins rookie Colt Brennan and Colts rookie Mike Hart.
Be sure to check out Hogs Haven for Redskins fans' reactions. In general, I'm impressed with Indy's depth, and I feel good at Quinn Gray as a possible back-up QB. Jim Sorgi even looked fine, but I have to see more. More chatter tomorrow.

The Defensive Performance
If you can use that word….
Redskins QBs combined for this stat line
19/22, 216 YDS, 3TDS, 0 INT, 158.3 Passer Rating
Redskins RBs combined for this stat line
31 Attempts, 156 Yards, 5.0 YPC
This was our pressure:
4 sacks( that’s better than it seemed)
1 FF
0 FR
0 INT
I am not happy about this at all, though I know we were down a DPOY Safety, four linebackers, 2(?) defensive ends, and we just lost a DT to quitting…er, retirement. But, regardless, this is lousy. I trust Dungy and Meeks will find the players that need help and get them coached up or get them out of town.

the defense did look sloppy
But I watched the game again (since I recorded it) and there were a couple of missed calls by the refs. If you look at Brennan’s highlights on nfl.com, you notice that on one play, Howard got his face mask tugged. While looking over the game again, I saw a moderate amount of missed holding calls.
In all though, the defense should have played better. I saw several missed tackles and QB pressure still seemed a little inconsistent.

Rookies
I really liked what I saw from Hart and Howard. It also seemed like Eric Foster was consistently around the ball.
