Around SBN: My First Fight: Diego Sanchez

As mentioned by ctnyc in the game thread, the Colts' only Harvard grad was released before tonight's game. This move probably doesn't have much of an impact on the long-term futures of Keith and Hart, but it's interesting to note.

collective IQ takes a hit, talent level unaffected

Dawson never did anything special and with Hart looking great and Dom back he was in trouble

Agreed, the second the Colts signed Dom his chances of being a Colt went from decent to non-existent.

Makes Sense

Dawson offered promise, potentially, of providing the kind of play which Hart has shown right out of the box. Even if we were to keep 4 RBs, which I doubt we will because Hart has been so impressive, but if we were… it would make no sense to keep a guy who plays “like” another guy you already have on your roster (Hart), only not as well as the other guy does.

Similarly, Kenton Keith was on the team to provide us with the type of play we expected out of Rhodes. Seeing as how Keith apparently can’t catch and consistently fails to run routes correctly or even run the correct routes, the only thing he offers is the ability to run when the football is handed to him. Rhodes can do already do that and while Keith may be able to do it close to “just as well” as Dom can, he certainly can’t offer the “extra” things than Dom does (Dom could even return kicks if we needed him to).

Additionally, Keith cannot offer what Hart does, in terms of what seems to be superior blocking ability, superior tackle breaking ability or the ability to legitimately fill a FB role should we need him too.

The only RB who brings something unique or additional to the table Chad Simpson. He is the fastest of our backs and has a finesse type of running style whereby he seemingly relies entirely on his ability to run away from defenders to be successful (I’ve not yet seen much in terms of “moves” or “shiftiness.”

For now, I will speculate that Simpson is put on the practice squad to compete for the 3rd RB spot next year when Rhodes will likely depart again.

Side Note: It seems to me the only way Simpson could make a “play” for a roster spot this year is on ST and I don’t see the coaches giving him that chance.
