Karma

I don't want to sound insensitive & I hope no one takes this wrong, but lets keep good karma on our side. This is just a theory that I have come up with and since us colts fans have a little time on our hands to introspect here it goes. I love the game of football and watch everything. I love Peyton Manning and think he is an excellent  being, last year I found it hard to believe that his little brother Eli was winning the Super Bowl. 'Where did this come from?' I ask myself. I have no doubt that Eli is an exceptional player but it took Peyton 8 years to make it to the Super Bowl and out of no where with no hoopla surrounding it Eli is winning against an 18-0 New England team. WOW. Within 3 years and coming with a team that had locker room issues and people saying he had no leadership skills (even team mates) This sweet kid who doesn't say much and always has a silly little smile is taking down Peyton's nemesis. Awesome.                     Then I started seeing little things that made me think karma might be at work. I am not diminishing Eli's abilities, it is obvious that Manning is a code for some genetic predisposition to nfl starting quarterbacks, but also Eli is a nice person and doesnt use his code name to define himself.               When Eli Manning took the field for Supe Bowl XLII he approached Tom Brady with a good sportsmanship smile and offered a friendly handshake. Tom hautingly dissed Eli with a snub. Ouch. I mean come on Tom a hand shake. As it turns out 18-0 don't mean squat in the end.                     Tiki Barber mouthed about his team mate, saying things about Eli's abilities at his fancy nbc job. I don't see a 'big, beautiful, look who is a leader' ring on Tiki's finger. Huh?                     Just my thoughts. So let us all remember that respect and kindness to our fellow man doesnt cost a thing and yet may reward us with the ability to respect ourselves.

A little class goes a long way

Hmmm

I don’t think that little Eli is the saint people make him out to be. Let’s not forget that Eli’s whining and refusal to play for the team that drafted him (San Diego) led to him to New York in the first place. Why did Eli want to play for the Giants and not the Chargers? Because in New York, Eli knew he would have more attention and better endorsement deals. Did Peyton complain about coming to a dreadful Indianapolis team when he was drafted? Of course not. So I don’t think Karma gives (or gave) a hoot about Eli, Tiki, and all the garbage that happened last year.

(Incidentally, we can thank Eli for helping the Chargers be as good as they are. In the deal with the Giants, the Chargers received 4 draft picks, including Shawne Merriman).

The pre-game handshake “snub” is a joke. It is so completely overblown it’s ridiculous. By all accounts outside of Indianapolis, Tom Brady is a nice guy. I know why we hate him here, but come on. Can we be more mature than 5th graders?

How do you think it affects our Karma with so many Colts fans being happy about Brady’s injury? I mean, as a Colts fan, it helps that the Patriots have to deal with this. But cheering Brady’s injury? Hoping it is career-threatening? Classless.

I think it’s admirable to show respect and kindness to our fellow human beings. I’d like to think people might do that because it’s the right thing to do and not because they hope it pays off for them in the end.

I don't recall

anyone, on this site at least, being happy about Brady’s injury. If memory serves (which it very well may not) the people on this site (myself included) visited the Pats’ site to let them know that it stank and we felt for them.

Unlike some others when Peyton had his knee surgery (Titans fans). In fact, the Pats’ fans showed alot of class during Peyton’s surgery ordeal, even when we were freaking out over here.

I have never been happy for Brady’s injury I have always had respect for the QB he is. My reference was to his loss at the SB. I don’t think it was greedy to want to be able to respect myself , no payoff. I am sorry you took it the wrong way.

Honestly when I wrote it I was just trying to lighten things up after our loss. Didn’t know what else to do. It was written with no malice.

AND

as far as Eli goes I like him. I would guess his decision had a lot to do with not wanting to compete with his older brother all year. But I don’t know. I think everything turned out ok. For the Giants and SD.

Exactly

and the fact that Archie did not want Eli ending up in a similar position (as Archie was when he was with the "Aints"). San Diego didn’t look so hot in ’04 —-they definitely benifited more than not with that trade.

IMO some people are a little serious sometimes. I, personally, saw nothing in your post that you should have to defend.

We didn’t “look so hot” when Peyton was drafted, either. But Peyton took it as a challenge and an opportunity. With the exception a few seasons in the mid-90s, the Colts had been bad for a long time. There was no reason to think at the time that the Colts organization knew what it was doing—in fact, the Chargers when Eli was drafted looked a lot better by comparison.

And if they (the Mannings) didn’t want to compete with each other all the time, get over it. If the draft works out that way, then so be it. Why should they (or anyone) be entitled to change things?

It is sort of ironic that Eli’s trade has (in part) directly hurt the Colts because of our inability to beat San Diego. The Chargers improvement has not been good for us.

Perhaps I took the post too seriously. But, the main point of it seemed to be that Karma was on the Giants’ side last season because people badmouthed the Giants and Eli in particular. That’s where I got the “payoff” aspect of it. And the idea of Karma suggests a payoff, because that’s what Karma is.

Perhaps no one on this site was happy with Brady’s injury. I have heard many a Colts fan say in essence, “I’m glad Brady was hurt” or “serves him right.” I didn’t mean for that to imply that you were doing that or that anyone on the site had done it, but I can see why my comments would be taken that way. Sorry about that.

I have never heard

a single Colts fan be the least bit glad that Brady got injured. Although I am sure that there is some paranoid Patriots fan that is convinced, or wants to believe, that we feel this way. But we don’t.
