Around SBN: Steve McNair Found Shot to Death

Mike Doss

I just saw something interesting, Mike Doss is a free agent. Before you shoot me down and call me names, I believe that he could help us out in our defensive stuggles. Nobody can replace Bob Sanders, I know that. Also Mike doesn't play on Bob's side of the defense. But I saw Melvin Bullitt had some poor tackling in that game, and you can't expect Silva to step up and play football in his rookie year. Mike Doss might be a short term replacement for saftey. He is the only decent free agent I saw that plays saftey. Or we can wait and hope the defense can hold it together and pray we can stop the run.

Tackle

I would rather see us sign a free agent defensive tackle than a free agent defensive back. Nobody can replace Sanders, but I feel pretty good about our DB depth.

No need

Doss lost his spot to Bethea, and with good reason. Go back and watch the ’05 playoff loss to the Steelers again and watch Heath Miller work him again and again.

So if you get beat by someone good you lose your job

Heath Miller is a hell of a T.E. and he’d work anyone we have at safety right now with Bob on the sideline

Doss was decent

and getting beat out by a guy who makes the pro bowl his second year definitely doesn’t mean he sucks. Still, if they were happy enough with the guys behind Sanders (Giordano/Bullit/Silva) to cut Condren I don’t think they are bringing in another safety.

I'll always remember the little fun fact

if Doss had kept his job the Colts would have started an all Big Ten secondary.
