A special request to Coach Dungy and the kickoff team
Don't do it.
I know what you're thinking, just don't.
Self confidence is great, but don't be dumb.
You remember last time you had that choice right? You did it and it ended badly.
So just don't.
Please.

Special Teams
Our special teams are greatly improved. I say kick it to him! Vinatieri might even get a TB. He’s been kicking out the endzone all preseason. Kick it to Hester! We can stop him.
YEAH!!
Go ahead and kick it to him. I have visions of Darrell Reid flattening him and Hesters helmet exploding off his head!! And, hey, what the hell, we spotted ’em 7 points last time and then proceeded to KICK THEIR ASS!!!!! Go Colts!!
Pressure is somethig you feel when you don't know what you're doing!
Reid
“I remember when we were practicing for the Super Bowl, we were saying we were going to keep it away from him. The players were like, ’We’re going to kick to him. Devin Hester who?’ " Darrell Reid said. "He showed us.”

Come on, Let's look at this situation..
1. Are the Colts Players “Mice or Men”?
2. We know they’re (Colts ST’s) better AND THEY know they are better. Give them a proper chance, when we stop him our confidence level team wide will be boosted.
3. The Colts players also know Hester cannot beat us all by himself.
4. AND WE KNOW WE CAN BEAT THEM OR ANY TEAM EVEN IF WE DO SPOT THEM 7 PTS TO START THE GAME!!!!

also
it didn’t end badly. we won that game if I remember rightly. let me do some research and find out if we won that game ;)
if they would have kept kicking to him they might not have

Approach...
I’m not sure I’ll ever be able to adopt that kind of negative approach. It’s game one of the regular season, outside of our division no less… you put your team in a position to display its strengths and weaknesses before you kick away from a returner. That said, if Vinatieri kicks it out of the back of the end zone, that’s another matter entirely. Purposely kicking the ball weaker than you are capable is also altering your team in order to fix a desired result. Boot the ball… boot it like you would to anyone… where it lands is where it lands and cover the kick. What better opportunity to practice kickoff coverage ability than against Devin Hester? No wuss crap.
Hester's Return
I say go for it what better way to see if ST has improved over last season, if they plant his ass shortly after he recieves it that will get the rest of the team fired up for a complete blow out.
Kick It To Him
I initially voted not to kick it to him, but reading the comments has changed my mind. Our ST is much improved, it’s the first game of the season, non-division, non conference, and Vinatieri’s been booming them. Plus, I think we’re good enough to spot them a TD if it gets to that. I just don’t want to see the first TD at The Lube being a Hester run back. Manning to Harrison is the way it should be. After that, anything’s game.
Yeah. I agree.
The first TD should be Manning to Harrison. Why even risk anything else. Besides, for everyone who wants the ST to get practice at coverage…this isn’t a practice game. This one counts. We have the 2nd toughest schedule in the league…no need to push anything. IMHO.

Hey!
I want a recount! Somebody’s voting twice! Where’s the Supreme court when we need them!
Pressure is somethig you feel when you don't know what you're doing!
Why?
Why should we kick it to the best player (that can score) on their team?
Without him, they stand a very small chance to win.
With him, they stand a much better chance to put points on the board if he runs one back or gets a long one into field goal range, therefore improving their chances on winning the game.
This isn’t about balls or being great, it’s about being smart.
Sure we might be able to cover him, but if we punt it out of bounds and avoid kickoffs to him I think it could only benefit the Colts chances of winning the game.
comparable
if we played the Raiders again this year would you guys be begging for Manning to go right at Asomugha and challenge arguably the best corner in the league, or would you want him to tear into the rest of the pass D which isn’t very good.

Arguably the best corner in the league
This is not comparable.
Asomugha is arguably the best corner in the league.
Hester is 1 return (I think?) TD away from being the best return man of all-time.
And it’s what…his 3rd year??
Hester's Returns
Who was it that caught up to Hester right when he was at the end zone?
Don’t you think if Dungy is going to allow a kick to him that he won’t have at least two players to only engage Hester in the event of a break through.

Sad
Any team that doesn’t force themselves to perform in the regular season and then expects to turn it on later in the year hasn’t watch the Colts rest starters in the final week or two of the regular season and/or get a bye in the playoffs. You play hard all year long… the regular season isn’t practice, that’s right, but it isn’t the playoffs either. If our special teams unit can’t stop Devin Hester, or other great returners, I want to know that now and not in the AFC Championship Game. On the other hand, if we can. I want to know that ASAP… I like heads to roll and if we can stop Hester now, there’s no reason to not continue developing as a coverage unit so that, come playoff time, we’re ready to pin opponents deep on a regular basis.
As for not throwing to Cromartie’s side because of last year… umm… it goes like this. If Manning or Sorgi or any other QB sees the best option on the field is the receiving option covered by Cromartie… he better thrown the GD ball to that receiving option. Throwing “away” from stars on opposing defenses allows defenses to do what we try to do with our pass rush and speed… force opposing teams to alter their offense, reducing the weapons available to it out of fear that a name embroidered on a jersey = certain death and an L on their regular season record. You don’t play football that way, you can’t. You play that crap and you’ll get lit up all year.
This fear BS has got to go. Play the game. If you don’t want to kick to Hester when you’re up by 3 b/c of a late field goal in the 4th quarter… great, that’s smart. But to not kick it off to him to open the game or after your first score because you’re afraid to let your coverage unit cover the kick or that Hester could fret score a TD… you’re just plain not ready to play, coach or manage in the NFL. PERIOD
I COULDN'T HAVE SAID IT BETTER!!!
EXACTLY WHAT I WAS THINKING BAMOCK! WE CAN’T BE A BUNCH OF P***Y’S AND BE INTIMIDATED JUST BECAUSE 1 OR MORE OF THE OPPOSING TEAM’S PLAYERS IS A “STAR” WHO MIGHT HURT US! OR, ASK YOURSELVES, WOULD YOU RATHER PLAY THE PATRIOTS WITHOUT BRADY, DALLAS WITHOUT ROMO?? IF WE WIN WHAT DO WE REALLY PROVE? NOTHING!!! LET’S PLAY FOOTBALL AND TAKE ON THE CHALLENGE. WHAT DOESN’T KILL YOU WILL MAKE YOU STRONGER!
Pressure is somethig you feel when you don't know what you're doing!
Can the Colts really afford a slip-up?
This is the first game of the year. Why risk the kicks to Hester? We need a win. The post-season is not a forgone conclusion.
You wanna prove the ST are good? Try it against someone else. But not to the best return-man of (perhaps) of all-time.
Hell, the only reason Chicago stood a chance in the SB was because of him. It wouldn’t even had been close. And if I recall correctly….we stopped kicking to Hester.
Did you read what you wrote...
Before you posted it? If you want to be the best you have to PLAY the best!!!! What better way to gauge the ST’s improvement than to kick to HESTER! it’s only ONE GAME and if he takes to the house it’s only ONE TD!!! Some of you act like these Colts are fragile or weak or in any way unable to take on the best in the NFL and win! If that’s your attitude, take your FANDOM to another team! The Colts are WINNERS! One of, if not the absolute best TEAMS not only in the NFL this season, BUT IN NFL HISTORY!!! THE BEST SHOULD TAKE THE BEST HEAD ON-NO EXCUSES!!!!!!!!
Pressure is somethig you feel when you don't know what you're doing!
I don't recall
a comment about Cromartie. That is completely different, given we have the best QB and WRs in the league. Our special teams don’t have that reputation.

Until are ST comes out and shows the football world that they aren’t going to be able to get a run back off the kicks the sports announcers are going to keep chiming on the same thing over and over “the Colts ST can’t stop the run back” and after hearing it so many times people begin to believe it least of all our ST players.
