Divisional Playoffs (Philadelphia defeats New York)- Open Thread #2

There will be no repeat champion this year. The NY Giants just became the 4th team in NFL history to lose, as a #1 seed, to the sixth seed (Philadelphia) in the playoffs. The last #1 seed to lose to the #6 seed was Tennessee last night! If the Steelers lose later today, all top seeds will have been eliminated from the playoffs.

This is your open thread for the San Diego v. Pittsburgh game.

Oh, and just to remind you all: The NFC Championship Game is getting played in Arizona next week. Un-freakin-believable.

totally agree

don’t really care, but I suspect right now the chargers are hotter… but really want the ravens to be the super bowl AFC team now

Chargers

It always takes the sting off a loss when the team that beat you goes on to win it all.

Plus SD has a strong Iowa contingent.

Personally, I’m rooting for Marmalard to have a big game just so that today can be the ultimate conversation-ender when my fellow Giants fans try to argue that the Eli trade wasn’t one of the worst trades in history. I’m tired of hearing about him and hopefully now we won’t ever have to hear anyone acting like he’s better than Peyton. He is mediocre and unreliable. Always has been, and I’m sick of him. Think of how good the Giants would’ve been this year with Rivers.

by willyduer on Jan 11, 2009 4:33 PM EST up reply actions

I just hate Rivers so much

Kaeding is the only NFL player from my hometown and I still can’t make myself do it, but the Steelers aren’t an attractive alternative.

I’d say just root for violence then but we need the winner to come out of this in good enough shape to beat the Ravens. I’ll be really annoyed if I have to hear all about a rookie QB with a 40% completion percentage being the 2nd coming for 3 more weeks.

I kind of want to see an 8-8 vs 9-7 super bowl too.

but i guess i want the steelers to win this game so the afc championship can be 6-3

the 2nd NFL game I've been to was a Steelers @ Redskins preseason game

and even then the terrible towels littered the stadium . They were really boisterous even though it was a boring preseason game.

I told my friend

If I had a million dollars I’d go up to him and bet him that he couldn’t do that 10 times out of 100 punts with no gear and no rush. And I think I’m right. Can’t take anything away from him, but that performance will be hard to duplicate by anyone.

there was a bad hold on that one too that they missed, that play shouldn’t have counted even if he lined up in the right spot.

sucks… at least titans are out… helps ease the pain a little… still sucks that we could have been hosting the afc title game next week…

Ahahahaha

Chargers suck. I love to see Phillip Rivers’ team fail.

by Colts Homer on Jan 11, 2009 6:55 PM EST reply actions

the way the D is playing they should definitely go for it. If they go up 28-10 the game is over. If they miss, still up 2 scores and they have the Chargers on the goal line with a ferocious and well rested defense. Kicking is pointless.

by willyduer on Jan 11, 2009 7:01 PM EST reply actions

wow

looked like he got it to me, but if so, only briefly. The view was blocked by a body though. Hell of a stand by the Chargers D.

by willyduer on Jan 11, 2009 7:03 PM EST up reply actions

Is it just me

or does Rivers have that post-menopausal woman chin thing?

by LovinBlue on Jan 11, 2009 7:05 PM EST reply actions

great play on first down to get off the goal line, but then a big sack on the next play puts the Chargers right back on the 2.

by willyduer on Jan 11, 2009 7:06 PM EST reply actions

The way the Steelers have been playing today I don’t know that the Colts would be doing much better.

Although Rivers clearly got rattled after that sack, rushing to throw one away and missing Gates.

Game over now. And another Steelers-Ravens game next week. Yuck.

by willyduer on Jan 11, 2009 7:09 PM EST up reply actions

wow

Looked like Weddle’s hand got there just as the ball did. I don’t think he catches that one either way. Sucks to get flagged on that.

And a Chargers defender was held in the end zone on that TD run. Very clear on the super slow mo outro to commercial.

Fitting, though, I suppose.

I hate these absurd roughing calls. 15 years from now, QB’s will be untouchable. Bank on it.
