Pats' McDaniels to coach Broncos
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3826234
And the Pats lose yet another coordinator. The consensus is that he is a pretty able guy but considering the lack of success for the last two guys who left (Cremmel and Weis) you have to be a little skeptical of the move.
Relating this to the Colts, the article says that it came down to McDaniels and Leslie Frazier, former Colts DB coach. Frazier is still in the running for a couple other jobs.

Nice job hiring someone who won’t fix your problem Broncos. He doesn’t know anything about defense, and considering the offense wasn’t the problem on that team, they are basically back where they started with Shanahan. Oh well, just means the Chargers are going to have yet another easy division title.

Defense
He’s never coached a defense, but started his career with the Pats breaking down film for the defense, FWIW. At any rate, I told the Mile High Repot gang I didn’t think he was ready and needed to “cook” a little longer. They disagreed.

No kidding
How do you not hire a defensive-minded coach in this position? Your defense is an embarrassment, you have a very good QB in a 1-dimensional offense. NE was also known for never using their RB’s and just make Brady/Cassel throw all day. Just a more of the same coach to me. Then again, not a team that I root for, except against SD.

They're only one dimensional
Because all of their RBs were made of cotton candy. And they still had a respectable running game. Shannahan could turn garbage into gold. I actually think that will effect them noticeably.

I think the defensive problems can be fixed by hiring a GM. 4 years and 4 defensive coordinators, I don’t think coaching was the problem. Just get someone in there that can scout and evaluate proper defensive talent and that will probably do the trick.

Strong DC needed
IN the end I was hoping for Frazier, but will support McDaniels. The key will be for the Broncos to bring in a STRONG defensive staff. Reports have the team bringing in Mike Nolan to be the DC and Dom Capers in some role as well(Assistant HC??) That would be a solid start!

So
It’s safe to assume that Matt Cassell won’t be joining his OC in the Mile High City, right?

actually that is three guys that the pats have lost because they lost mangini to the jets too so lets see if the fourth time is a charm. I also love how no coaches that have come out of bilicheck have been good but a lot of coaches under Dungy have done great.

yeah I somehow forgot about Mangini
and yeah it is nice to see all the Dungy guys succeed (mostly) and the Belichick ones fail

Pioli is also rumored to be in the top seat for the KC GM job
I love that we are seeing a small dismantling of the Patriots’ staff, especially the lead scout.

Pioli leaving will hurt
