Caldwell was on the same coaching staff as Coyer in 1977

at the University of Iowa. Coyer was DC, Caldwell was a graduate assistant after 4 years playing DB for the Hawkeyes.

Dunno that I’m thrillled about this. Hope I’m wrong, as I usually am.:)

Well

At least we’ll probably be getting a DT at some point. By the way, Jerry and Raji are doing way too well at the Senior Bowl for my liking. Hopefully someone that’s dying for a DT can afford Haynesworth. Come on Green Bay, you know you’ve got the cap space.

I dunno

Its not that I was dying for some sexy name or anything, this just doesn’t get me excited. I’m trying to remember who Coyer had when he was with the Broncos. I’m not going to look it up, so someone correct me:

Lynch at safety
Trevor Pryce at DE
DJ Williams and Al Wilson at LB
Champ Bailey at CB

I’m not sayin he had great talent or even more talent than the Colts do now, but he did have a good group of linebackers and a better CB than the Colts had. Who the heck knows, I guess. He just strikes me as Ron Meeks, in a way. His defense had some good times and some bad times while he was coordinator… and after he got fired/let go, no one is probably gonna pick him up to do the same job.

Romanowski was there

He was their LB guy at first. Bailey, Lynch, Mobley, D.J. Williams, Al Wilson, Bly, O’neil. Off the top of my head. I’m sure there’s plenty obvious ones I’m missing though.

Whoever tries to go with a T2 will get Meeks. I mean the dude was a DC for 7 years under Dungy. He’ll be fine.

yup

That’s right. WIth him and Champ they were starting to be considered two of the best tandem CBs in the league. That sucked.

Sad

It’s sad the way his life ended. Unfortunately, every time I think of him I think of Reggie burning him for 3 TDs. He did show signs of talent though.

I like it. once a hawk always a hawk! you better believe he will have that hard work ethic. if you look at the hawkeye staff over the years its a list of great coaches going all the way back and I mean all the way back, minus the 70s. oops thats when he coached?

I dont know but I was not really impressed with the previous list of wannabes the fans listed. I think caldwell knows what he is doing!

Should we worry

that there’s no press release yet?

Maybe...?

Before heading to sleep I figured I’d do a little Coyer reading and there’s nothing out there. Crickets! I’ll assume they’re just finalizing negotiations (does his ego require assistant HC in his title and will Caldwell okay that? stuff like that).

If I hear nothing all day Friday, I’ll assume the worst and it’s back to the DC store to shop for a model that fits better….
