Mock Draft Questoin

Hello, I'm writing from ninersnation.com. We are having a mock draft and I was selected to represent the Colts pick at number 28. I've seen the Colts when the played the Patriots, Steelers, Jags, Titans, Texans, and Browns so I've seen the good and the bad Colts. Watching those games and looking at highlights, a few positions stand out as first round needs. Basically, I'm asking what you all feel the Colts truly need. I know that Dungy liked guys with speed, but will the colts keep the tampa 2 going. Just help me out here thanks.

DT

Colts will probably be looking for a DT first round.

Dwight Freeney will eat your children.

Peria Jerry

If he is still available he will be taken by the Colts.

best available DT, OT or WR probably

Polian doesn’t go directly for need. Best available player at a position of need.

By the way this draft is looking

The best DT left will be the best available out of that group. I see Harvin, Maclin and Crabtree gone at WR and Oher, A Smith, J Smith, Britton and Monroe gone at OT. I’m hoping Jerry sucks tomorrow at Senior Bowl practice so his stock doesn’t keep on rising. I’m afraid he will rise all the way up into the top 15.

what about LB?

DT, WR, or LB seem likely to me, but I know not everyone will agree with LB. It all depends on what Polian expects to be able to get later in the draft. My impression is that DT and WR are deep this year, and that the LBs in the first round are exceptional and could add punch to the middle of the field. But I’m not sure how Brian Cushing or the other USC LBs look in a Tampa 2 scheme. My money’s on Peria Jerry, Hakeem Nicks, Darrius Heyward-Bey, or Brian Cushing, not necessarily in that order.

it's possible

depends on what Coyer wants from the LBs in the new system. If it’s more of the same then like always they won’t go LB early. If they are going to be bigger and blitz more often then LB early is on the table.

I was talking to

I was talking to Matt McGuire today (the writer from WalterFootball.com that’s at the Senior Bowl scouting right now) and was asking him about the LBs that I could see fit into our system. I asked him what he thought about Beckwith and he said he didn’t look good. So then I asked him who would be the next guy behind Laurinaitis that could play in a Cover 2. So then I looked the guy up, and I agree with him. Dannell Ellerbe – Georgia. And we could probably get him with our compensation pick that I’m praying for or possibly with our 3rd round pick if we manage to get Jerry in the 1st or Ziggy Hood in the 2nd.

Anyway, as to montasmob69’s question, depending on your draft order, this would be my list of players we would be likely to take based on what our priority would be + best player available + has a chance at being that low. So do your thing because I’m not going to tell you how to do your mock. I could assume Haynesworth could go to another team, taking them out of wanting a DT etc etc…

1) Peria Jerry – DT Miss
2) James Laurinaitis, ILB, Ohio State
3) Knowshon Moreno, RB, Georgia (Included because nobody knows how to rank the RBs right now)
4) Percy Harvin, WR, Florida
5) Evander Hood, DT, Missouri
6) LeSean McCoy, RB, Pitt
7) Sen’derrick Marks, DT, Auburn
8) Clint Sintim, OLB, Virginia
9) Donald Brown, RB, Connecticut
10) Kenny Britt, WR, Rutgers

But that’s just me.

Two positions that really need to be addressed

Defensive Tackle or Right Tackle. Either pick will do

Why the Colts pick 27th

I think that web site had the Colts picking 28th, because the person who made it, must have made it before the super bowl thinking Zona would not go.
